New Jersey American Water Urges Customers to 'Follow Us' on Twitter

CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 17 -- New Jersey American Water is now "tweeting" company news and updates for customers and others at Twitter.com/njamwater. The company's entry into Twitter recognizes the growing number of customers preferring social media for communicating.

New Jersey American Water is tapping Twitter to provide information about customer programs, community initiatives, environmental projects and special events, as well as alerts and updates on water emergencies, boil water advisories and water and wastewater construction projects.

"Twitter is a powerful, real-time communications tool that will help us keep customers and other interested parties up-to-date on company news and activities," said New Jersey American Water President John Bigelow. "We are excited about the ability to enhance our customer and community relations by connecting directly with everyone who follows us on Twitter."

Twitter is a free online social networking service that individuals and organizations around the world are using to communicate to others who subscribe to their updates. These updates, called "tweets," are limited to no more than 140 characters. Because of the space limitations, New Jersey American Water customers who follow the company on Twitter will be linked to the company's Web site at http://www.newjerseyamwater.com, as well as other online sites such as Flickr and YouTube for detailed information, photos and video.

New Jersey American Water, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water (NYSE:AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and/or wastewater services to approximately 2.5 million people. Founded in 1886, American Water is the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company.
