Congressman Rangel's Office Becomes the First Legislative Office to Register with New Voting App

CHICAGO, Aug. 19 -- The congressional office of Representative Charles B. Rangel joins many other political leaders to become the first legislative office to sign on with Visible Vote, a first-of-its-kind software application. By doing so, Representative Rangel has made a commitment to being transparent and accountable to his constituents and maintaining a constant-touch relationship with them through the app. Visible Vote has more than 167,000 users in the United States and will allow Rangel to talk about his voting records/beliefs and conduct real-time polls of his constituents via Smartphones, Facebook and a recently added Visible Vote widget to his website (http://rangel.house.gov/).

"Listening to my constituents is one of my chief priorities as a legislator. I'm excited to harness the power of technology to constantly gauge the views and concerns of my diverse community," Rangel said.  "I want to ensure I'm utilizing every possible means of communication to interact with everyone in my district. I see the Visible Vote application not merely as an innovative way to reach out but also as a great tool to engage young people in the political process."

Representative Rangel currently has 488 voters living in his district (15th Congressional District of New York) who are on the Visible Vote app.  One of Rangel's staff members first heard of Visible Vote's portal for campaigns and legislative offices back in June.  Rangel's office quickly signed up and began efforts to install the Visible Vote widget, set up custom polls and express the Representative's viewpoints through the technology.  At this time, Visible Vote has 23 congressional campaigns signed on, two major organizations and two major state political parties.

Visible Vote is a free non-partisan application dedicated to bringing greater transparency to our representative form of government. Visible Vote was a 2009 Chicago Innovation Award Winner.  For more information, please visit http://www.visiblevote.us/.
