Verizon Wireless and LiveCast Media Announce 4G Mobile Reporter: Real-Time Mobile Video Streaming for Enterprise, Government and Media Agencies

Delivering Real-Time High-Definition Quality Broadcasts from the Field Takes a New Dimension

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., VANCOUVER, British Columbia, and LAS VEGAS, April 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 2011 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, Verizon Wireless and LiveCast Media today announced that they have teamed up to deliver a complementary option to traditional satellite and microwave delivery for high-quality video transmissions from the field to live on-air broadcasts via the new 4G Mobile Reporter.

The 4G Mobile Reporter runs on the nation's fastest and most advanced 4G LTE network and enables media companies to transmit HD-quality video over the Verizon Wireless network using low-cost, lightweight laptops with a Verizon Wireless 4G USB modem such as the Pantech UML290 or the LG VL600.

Leveraging Verizon Wireless' Mobile Broadband service, field crews can use the 4G Mobile Reporter with existing camera equipment to deliver near real-time video feeds with low-latency transmission to the station without the need for satellite trucks.  It also embeds GPS data continuously throughout the stream, tracking locations dynamically and allowing a map display next to the video playback window.

"The 4G Mobile Reporter is an example of Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network in action, saving businesses time and resources while getting the job done faster than ever before," said Mark Bartolomeo, vice president, global enterprise marketing, Verizon Wireless.  "We have a long history of working with media technology, and this is the next logical step in our business portfolio as we advance into 4G LTE.  Working with LiveCast allows us to further extend our reach to our media customers by offering top-notch wireless products and services."

"With Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network, we can now provide media companies with the best of all worlds," said William Mutual, LiveCast chief executive officer.  "Our customers are continuously seeking effective strategies to reduce operational costs, while maintaining quality and covering more stories faster.  Now, together with Verizon Wireless, we have a dynamic product that meets and exceeds their requirements."

The 4G Mobile Reporter is easy to install and use and includes LiveCast's Duo software for PCs and a compact converter device that connects a professional camera to a laptop, if an HDMI input isn't available.  Using Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE wireless modem, live streams are transmitted through the LiveCast platform and seamlessly integrated into the broadcast workflow.  Additionally, the technology is backwards compatible to the 3G network allowing news directors and other authorized personnel to view the live stream from a Verizon Wireless laptop, tablet or mobile phone when away from the studio.

The 4G Mobile Reporter integrates with the entire suite of LiveCast video solutions, including streaming to and from mobile phones, tablets and laptops; integration with metadata, GPS location and telemetry; tools for Web publishing and social networking.  This flexibility enables mobile reporters and camera crews to be more productive at the station and in the field.

--  At the station, the LiveCast SDI application allows low-latency
monitoring of multiple live streams simultaneously, with the ability to
switch between streams in real time. LiveCast uniquely requires only a
single ingest point at the station's video router to service the
        multiple streams.
--  In the field, reporters can select a live return feed from the station
to monitor, while simultaneously streaming.  LiveCast Duo supports Live
Chat, so producers can cue and prompt talent with directions or
questions, a useful feature in noisy environments or when silence is
        required.

LiveCast will be demonstrating the 4G Mobile Reporter at the 2011 NAB Show at Verizon Wireless' booth on the show floor (Booth # SU8511 in South Hall Upper in the Las Vegas Convention Center).  For sales information, contact a Verizon Wireless Business Sales Representative by calling 1-800-VZW-4BIZ or directly from LiveCast at 1-604-844-2263, ext. 5.

LiveCast and Verizon Wireless also offer solutions for first responders, security and law enforcement agencies, and industrial enterprises to provide situational awareness to make mission-critical decisions in real time.  Visit http://b2b.vzw.com/industrysolutions or http://www.livecast.com to find additional information.
