Scholar Combines Old, New with Bible Videos

Topics Include King James Version, Ten Commandments, and John 3:16

NEW YORK, April 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Combining new technology and ancient text, Bible scholar Dr. Joel M. Hoffman has released a series of short on-line Bible videos intended to bring the text of the Bible to life on screen.

Hoffman launched the series, entitled "Exploring the Bible," with three 2-3 minute videos, each focusing on a single topic.

The first video, just in time for the widely celebrated 400th anniversary of the King James Version (KJV) on Monday, May 2, offers viewers a quiz about the English in the KJV.

The second video addresses why "covet" is a mistranslation in the Ten Commandments.

The third video explains what "God so loved the world" in John 3:16 really means.

All three videos are available from http://www.ExploringTheBibleVideos.org as well as on a dedicated YouTube page.

Hoffman says he likes the medium of video because "it makes it possible to display text as I explain it." He adds that the videos "also target people who would rather watch information than read it."

Because the writing systems for ancient Hebrew and Greek -- the primary languages of the Bible -- are so complicated, Hoffman says special technology had to be developed to create the videos, which feature moving text in English, Hebrew, and Greek.

Hoffman, a frequent guest lecturer at churches and synagogues, is most widely known for unearthing significant mistranslations of the Bible. The videos combine results he has previously published with new material.
