UMBIAN ANNOUNCES PILOT PROGRAM FOR MONITORING SLEEP APNEA THERAPY IN THE COMMERCIAL TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY

HALIFAX, May 12 /PRNewswire/ - Umbian is pleased to announce that it has begun
a three-month pilot program for its compliance management solution:
U-Sleep.  U-Sleep is currently being launched for the commercial
transportation industry and will monitor individual drivers who have
been diagnosed with and are undergoing treatment for sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea and its impact on driver safety is an important topic in the
transportation industry. Prolonged untreated sleep apnea can lead to
serious health issues including sleep deprivation, weight gain, high
blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.  Specifically,
chronic sleep deprivation can result in a two to seven fold increased
likelihood of vehicular accidents. Various studies have shown that 1 in
3 commercial truck drivers have some degree of sleep apnea, while only
a small portion are tested and treated.

Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) devices are commonly used for the
treatment of sleep apnea. The monitoring of PAP device usage encourages
regular use and subsequently improves the effectiveness of therapy.
Umbian has developed an innovative compliance management solution,
U-Sleep, which monitors PAP device usage, coaches drivers into therapy
compliance and provides detailed reporting to both the driver and their
employer.

"Commercial transportation companies today face many challenges as a
result of a sleep-deprived workforce.  Using U-Sleep as part of an
overall sleep apnea compliance program will help companies achieve a
decrease in absenteeism, accidents and liability while providing an
overall increase in productivity and quality of life for their
employees," explains Raj Sodhi, President of Umbian.

U-Sleep allows companies to define specific rules that establish a
therapy compliance standard for their organization.  Throughout the
pilot program, U-Sleep will monitor drivers who utilize a Philips
Respironics PAP device that wirelessly shares usage data on a daily
basis. U-Sleep sends real-time notifications via email, text message or
voice call when the company specific compliance standard is achieved or
violated. U-Sleep empowers individuals and organizations to achieve
compliance standards for continued and effective sleep apnea therapy.

Umbian has established a relationship with The Snore Shop, a leading
Canadian sleep therapy clinic.  The Snore Shop will provide screening,
PAP devices and support to the drivers throughout the trial. Dr. Neil
Smith, The Snore Shop co-owner, is a practicing otolaryngologist with
an interest in sleep disordered breathing as it pertains to upper
airway mechanics. "We are very excited to be a part of this important
pilot with Umbian. We believe U-Sleep will prove to be a vital part of
the overall assessment and ongoing treatment for patients with sleep
apnea," says Dr. Smith.

The pilot program is a three-month study that consists of drivers from
various trucking companies.  For more information, visit http://www.umbian.com/u-sleep.
