Neebo Reminds College Students of Easy Way to Earn Extra Cash for Summer: Sell Used Textbooks

Recent study shows only 42 percent of textbooks sold back each semester; college bookstore network offering social media-savvy students additional deals for "checking in" online

LINCOLN, Neb., May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As college students prepare to leave campus for the summer, Neebo.com, the complete college outfitter, wants to make sure they don't leave money on the table, too. The college merchandise website is encouraging students to sell back used textbooks with an extra incentive--more cash!

In a recent study, Neebo found that only 42 percent of all textbooks are sold back either online or to the bookstore each semester(1).  Furthermore, 24 percent of students were extremely or very dissatisfied with their sellback experience. With almost a quarter of all students dissatisfied with their textbook purchase and buyback experience, Neebo is working to remedy that and make the experience a better one for all students.

"Students are missing a big opportunity to put cash in their pockets by hanging onto books they no longer need," said Steve Clemente, Senior Vice President of Neebo. "Buying a used textbook on Neebo.com saves up to 25 percent off the price of buying the same book new. During buyback season, students can save up to 50 percent by selling back that very same book."

"Check in" Online to Get a Deal at Check-out

Beyond those savings, Neebo is offering a special deal for students through its network of 280 campus bookstores. Students can check in on Facebook or Foursquare to earn instant "cashification" when they sell back textbooks or buy college gear. That means extra cash in the pockets of the tech-savvy students on these campuses.

From participating local college bookstores through May 31, 2011, students can use their smart phones to check in at the store through Foursquare with three additional social media-savvy friends or check in on the store's Facebook page and tag five deal-seeking friends. Once checked in, students can snag an additional $10 when they sell back $50 in books. Students checking in on Foursquare should keep an eye out for an additional discount code that entitles them to 30 percent off any one item of apparel--a perfect opportunity to deck out an alma mater-admiring loved one back home!

More Ideas for Earning Cash this Summer

Neebo is also offering up some additional tips for students looking to save and earn more cash throughout their academic year:

--  Sell your books back to your local campus bookstore or online at
        Neebo.com for instant cashification.
--  Check with your college career services office to identify summer job
and internship opportunities geared towards college students--often
times you can earn credit reducing your tuition bill.
--  Tutor! Put your college education to work and tutor local middle or high
school students--it's a great way to earn summer cash while flexing your
        wealth of knowledge.
--  Take advantage of the warm weather and head outside for cheap fun--check
with your local park district for free events, gather friends for a
barbeque or plan a camping trip.
--  While a full time job might be hard to come by in the summer months,
think about stringing together several part time jobs--babysitting,
        waiting tables, valet parking.
