Viridity Software Launches EnergyCenter Version 2.0 - Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Software

Enables Data Center, IT and/or Facilities Managers to More Easily, Cost Effectively and Accurately Plan For and Execute Expansion, Consolidation, Virtualization and/or Cloud Initiatives

BURLINGTON, Mass., June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Viridity Software, the leading provider of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software, today announced the release of its EnergyCenter(TM) version 2.0 (v2.0) software -- the industry's most innovative, easy-to-use and cost effective solution for monitoring, optimizing and managing data center space, power and cooling as they dynamically relate to IT assets and their utilization.  EnergyCenter v2.0, which can be deployed as a direct, embedded or modular DCIM solution, features key product enhancements that enable the data center, IT and/or facilities manager to more easily, cost effectively and accurately plan for and execute, expansion, consolidation, virtualization and/or cloud initiatives.

EnergyCenter v2.0 Enhancements:

--  User Defined Asset Grouping: Ability to group or filter assets based on
application, owner and/or contact - enables users to connect physical
and virtual assets to applications and lines-of-business (i.e.,
        budgeting and chargeback capabilities).
--  VMware Virtual Guest Power Analysis: Monitoring and power consumption
analysis of virtual guests - uncovers virtual machine sprawl and
        identifies underutilized virtual assets.
--  Heat Mapping: Graphical overlay reports of top power consumers,
underutilized servers and BTU output visualizes actionable information.
--  Advanced Auto Alert: Ability to assign power and utilization thresholds
and be auto-notified when thresholds are exceeded.
    --  Enhanced Import/Export:  Import/export asset information - eliminates
cumbersome reconciliation between legacy asset management systems.
--  Extended Data Center Genome Database (GxDB): Database extended with
thousands of additional measured server power profiles, as well as
        storage and switch specifications.

In a Gartner report entitled, "DCIM: Going Beyond IT" author David Cappuccio, Research Vice President, stated "Monitoring energy consumption and equipment performance has been performed for many years, but almost exclusively on the facilities side of the business, and rarely on IT equipment. Building management systems monitor security, power, lighting and all facets of the day-to-day operations of the building itself, while operations technologies have been used to manage the physical equipment needed to run the business. IT equipment, on the other hand, was rarely monitored for energy consumption, but rather for performance and availability. CIOs were chartered with keeping the systems running, often at more than 99.9% availability levels; however, little attention was paid to the physical infrastructure supporting the systems and how efficiently it was running."

"Escalating energy costs, inefficient/ineffective infrastructure management tools and unknown downstream regulatory actions, combined with rapidly growing requirements on IT, are driving Facilities and Data Center Managers to deploy and leverage cost effective, easy-to-use and accurate DCIM tools, such as Viridity's EnergyCenter, in order to reduce costs and optimize data centers," said Bob Laliberte, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG).  "We believe that customers will be able to take full advantage of EnergyCenter's v2.0 enhancements as they will help them to overcome many of their top IT challenges."

"Viridity's EnergyCenter software has a unique approach and set of functions, especially in the way that it is able to discover assets and accurately measure power consumption without the use of extra devices. This means it can be deployed within minutes, enabling customers to start optimizing their power and cooling, and to simulate and plan their use of datacenter resources," said Andy Lawrence, Program Director of the Uptime Institute Symposium and Research Director for Eco-Efficient IT and Datacenter Technologies, The 451 Group. "These capabilities have earned it a position as a DCIM innovator and leader (and also led to its recent Uptime Institute 2011 Green Enterprise IT Award)."

"EnergyCenter has enabled Laureate Education to enjoy the benefits of active asset management in that it provides not only a clear, all encompassing view of our data center -- down to the specific IT asset and its application(s), but also delivers the ability to model the impact any potential change could have on the data center environment," said Tim Cole, Data Center Manager, Laureate International Universities - Global Product and Services.  "Our company strives to deliver world class services that enable our students to participate in a lifetime of educational opportunities through Laureate.  Our data center requirements expand rapidly and that requires tools like Viridity EnergyCenter to help us manage the change."

"We are excited about our customer driven innovation agenda and v2.0, with Viridity's signature ease of use, is packed with rich new features that further enhance our customer's advantage in data center capacity, asset and energy management. It is the only product on the market today that is deployable within minutes, giving rapid and continuous savings on energy costs while improving data center resilience and agility to respond to business service needs," said Arun Oberoi, President and CEO, Viridity Software.

EnergyCenter v2.0 general availability is planned for July 2011.
