"By exploring this new media modality and partnering with Groupon, we hope to find talented teachers and expand on National Louis University's mission of providing access to education," said Dr. Nivine Megahed, president of National Louis University. "We realize in order to thrive in the competitive environment of higher education, we need to be where our students are, speak to them in a way they are used to speaking, and many of our potential students receive daily emails from Groupon."

As part of the Groupon offer, potential students can take advantage of a discounted rate on the Introduction to Teaching course, taught by graduate professors from National Louis University. The graduate level course runs for 10 weeks and is held Mondays from 6 - 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 26.

"This is the type of experience you could only find on Groupon," said Julie Mossler, Director of Communications, Groupon. "We're constantly looking for innovative organizations like National Louis University to help subscribers discover new passions and pursue their interests. This is a great way to explore a career in teaching and determine if it's something you'd like to pursue."

The introductory class, which is open to students with an undergraduate degree, is designed to provide students an idea of what to expect in the entire Master's curriculum, which is a two-year graduate level program.  Students will learn trends and debates in the teaching profession; social, cultural political and economic forces in American education; how the K-12 sectors works (regulation, certification, policy); developing a personal philosophy/approach to teaching and be required to fulfill 15 hours of service learning field experience in an actual classroom

"Part of National Louis University's mission is to make education accessible to everyone, and it is equally important for our students to understand the commitment they are making when they are accepted to our Masters of Arts in Teaching program," said Dr. Megahed. "Because it is both a time and financial commitment, the Groupon offer lets them try a course and receive academic credit, if he or she determines they want to pursue a graduate degree in teaching with National Louis University."
