AT&T Hiring U-verse Technicians in Wisconsin to Help Support Fastest Growing TV Service in U.S.

Governor Walker Joins AT&T in Announcing Additional Jobs in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced it has begun hiring 101 technicians across the state to support its AT&T U-verse® business, the fastest growing advanced television service in the country. Governor Scott Walker joined AT&T at an event today where AT&T outlined its hiring plans and underscored its commitment to expanding its mobile broadband network in Wisconsin.

AT&T U-verse® services (including AT&T U-verse TV, AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet and AT&T U-verse Voice) are now available to more than 800,000 living units in more than 140 communities in Wisconsin.

"I commend AT&T for continuing to grow Wisconsin's economy by adding these important jobs," said Governor Walker. "These are high tech jobs that provide competitive wages and benefits that are among the best in the telecommunications industry."

The announcement was made at AT&T's Wisconsin corporate offices in Milwaukee. Governor Walker was joined at today's event by AT&T Wisconsin President Scott VanderSanden.

"We are expanding the availability of our award-recognized AT&T U-verse services and signing up new customers every day, and we need more U-verse technicians to keep up with the growing demand," said Scott VanderSanden, AT&T Wisconsin president. "We're proud to serve so many local communities in Wisconsin with our advanced U-verse services and proud of the quality jobs our U-verse investment has created."

AT&T invested nearly $800 million in its Wisconsin wireless and wireline networks from 2008 through 2010.

In addition to adding new jobs and expanding AT&T U-verse to more living units across the state, already this year, AT&T has expanded its mobile broadband network capacity in Oshkosh and Green Bay, and activated new mobile broadband coverage in Wausau and Eau Claire.

"A more advanced mobile broadband experience helps to drive economic growth, stimulate jobs and equips Wisconsin businesses to meet the rapidly increasing demand for mobile broadband service," said Dave Fine, AT&T vice president and general manager for AT&T in Wisconsin and Illinois. "We've significantly ramped up investment in our wireless network to enable an experience that offers Wisconsin consumers better mobile broadband speed."

"Our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA also represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand our network in Wisconsin," added Scott VanderSanden. "If approved, this deal means that we'll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband - 4G LTE - from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent."

AT&T is one of the largest employers in America and the nation's largest private employer of full-time union employees. With highly competitive wages and benefits, AT&T jobs are among the best in the U.S. AT&T premises technicians are responsible for service installation and customer care, working both inside customer homes and outside on AT&T's advanced network.
