Play-Fi(TM) Wireless Audio Technology from DTS to Power New DAC Products From ASUS

CALABASAS, California, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DTS, Inc.( http://www.dts.com ) (Nasdaq: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio solutions and audio enhancement technologies, announced today a collaboration with ASUSTEK COMPUTER, INC (TSE: 2347), a top global producer of computers and consumer technology, to bring to market the new MOSAIC by Essence digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that features Play-Fi wireless audio technology. With Play-Fi, users will be able to stream lossless, high-quality audio from almost any music source on their PCs and mobile devices, to any audio system that they connect their DAC to. Play-Fi also gives users full control of their entire network of Play-Fi powered WiFi speakers - allowing users to set up, link and stream audio to one Play-Fi-powered wireless music system, or to multiple Play-Fi-powered wireless music systems throughout the home at once, in perfect synchronization - for an exceptional whole home audio experience.

By simply installing the free Play-Fi software, PCs, tablets and smartphones are instantly transformed into personal music hubs capable of streaming audio stored natively, on a networked media server, or from popular streaming music services, to any, or all rooms in the home, with no effect on quality. Play-Fi seamlessly connects music with any home through the existing WiFi network. With Play-Fi technology, the new MOSAIC by Essence DAC products from ASUS can be linked with other existing Play-Fi-powered audio products for whole-home music enjoyment, or can be separated into a zone, allowing users to stream a variety of music throughout the house.

"ASUS has built a reputation for delivering award-winning DAC solutions that produce stellar sound, so when we set out to build one that supported wireless audio streaming, Play-Fi from DTS was an obvious fit for the MOSAIC by Essence, said Ives Chiu, product manager at ASUS. "We believe that our customers will truly appreciate the fact that Play-Fi not only allows them to stream music from their PCs and mobile devices to any audio system they connect their DAC to, but that the technology also supports playback of high quality formats, up to an impressive 192Khz at 24bit."

The benefits of DTS Play-Fi include:

-- Multi-Room Listening Experience - Connect up to eight different audio systems to one network and enjoy music and audio in every room of your home or office, perfectly synchronized with no lag. Or, stream different songs to different rooms via different Play-Fi enabled PCs or mobile devices.

-- Quality Sound Experience - DTS Play-Fi is able to wirelessly transmit up to high-definition "lossless" audio, with no impact on sound quality - unlike Bluetooth, which degrades sound quality via file compression.

-- Connectivity Range - DTS Play-Fi-enabled PCs and devices connect wirelessly to playback systems via a standard wireless home network, enabling DTS Play-Fi connectivity anywhere within the home.

-- Stream Anything, Control Everything - Simple applet allows users to choose which audio streams to send to their DTS Play-Fi enabled speakers: hear music on the stereo, and email notices locally. Stream from cloud services, YouTube, Internet radio, local files, or connected media servers. Set-up, link and control all of the speakers on the network from the same streamlined interface.

"At DTS, we are passionate about music and feel strongly that in the comfort of your home, it should not be reduced to two speakers that you wear over your ears, but rather fill your room, or entire home, and immerse you in all of its emotion - Play-Fi was designed to do specifically that," said Dannie Lau, general manager, Play-Fi division at DTS. "We are excited to have Asus join our ever growing Play-Fi ecosystem and bring new products to market that give their customers the freedom to enjoy music of the highest-quality, wirelessly from their PCs or mobile devices, to any device they connect the DAC to."
