SUMMERTIME MADNESS - Haier Portable, Window AC Units Help Cool Down Those Hot Summer Days, Nights

NEW YORK, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- June 21 officially marked the beginning of what many weather forecasters are projecting to be an unseasonably hot summer. Accordingly, this may lead to consumers feeling the heat of potentially high electricity bills.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, nearly 90 percent of houses in the U.S. are equipped with some form of air conditioning equipment. As weather becomes more unpredictable, consumers may find solace in relatively inexpensive means of cooling.

"Regardless of income level, many consumers are either using portable or window ACs as their primary or supplemental cooling source," said Rian Cain, senior vice president of the white goods group, Haier America. "Our objective is to meet the needs of our customers where and how they live."

For those living in multi-tenant, older or coastal housing, portable and window air conditioning units may offer the most cost- and energy-efficient relief. Nearly 20 percent of the population is using both central and portable air solutions.

Haier window units EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) vary from Department of Energy minimums to the latest Energy Star qualified models which are 15% more efficient, depending on the unit purchased. For consumers seeking cooling and more updated functionality than older generations of window units, this product will likely surprise.

For those wanting a solution that takes into account true mobility throughout the home, a portable configuration will likely fit the bill. All portable ACs exhaust hot air as part of the cooling process. This hot air is directed out of the cooled space using a hot air discharge hose, also known as an exhaust hose. This air hose is most often vented out of a window utilizing the included window kit.

Haier wants consumers to remember there are a number of tried and true products that can help them weather the potentially maddening temperature shifts.
