Newly Patented Verve (TM) Illuminated Safety Vest Launches Across U.S.
Breakthrough level of safety for cyclists to construction workers
LEXINGTON, Ky., Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, patented LED-embedded illuminated safety vest, developed and made in America, promises to help save tens of thousands of lives lost annually along roadways around the world, according to the Kentucky-based creators and manufacturers of the one-of-a-kind, waterproof, and machine washable Verve(TM) vest.
Kevin Winzer and Seth McBee, creators of You Saw Me and inventors of the breakthrough safety vest are intent on "revolutionizing the way business and governments worldwide perceive visibility safety in daily living".
McBee, a former nuclear engineer and avid runner, cyclist, and concert goer, says what makes the vest unique is its proprietary integration of 60 waterproof light emitting diodes (LEDs), making it highly visible from the front and back from more than one mile. This feature was instrumental in not only obtaining U.S. Patent and Trademark Office protection (No. 8,449,133) but in its application for American Nationals Standards Institute (ANSI) retro reflective certification. The LEDs can either be steady, flash, or dimmed, and are powered by a 9-Volt battery that lasts for more than 30 hours of continuous use (a rechargeable option is available). The vests are fully waterproof and machine washable, and include a front and back pocket for cell phones, or other belongings. The RGB Verve has 20 dimmable steady-state colors and 19 speed-controlled color-changing modes.
In October 2013, McBee resigned from his position as a nuclear engineer and went to Lexington, Kentucky to couch surf with his former college roommate to give the Verve the full-time attention it required. Equipped with prototypes built in Winzer's basement, McBee won several "Shark Tank" style pitch contests, including a $25,000 investment from an angel group. He set up manufacturing in Liberty, Kentucky, using former Oshkosh seamstresses that were furloughed when the company moved operations to Taiwan; and McBee and Winzer launched the Verve.
