DigitalRoute Launches DR Xplore Innovation Lab
STOCKHOLM, September 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
New Center will Focus on Transformative Solutions for Communications Service Providers
DigitalRoute has launched DR Xplore (DRX) - an IT and data management innovation hub
based in Gothenburg, Sweden - as it continues to redefine and extend the boundaries of
mediation.

To fuel the lab, the global leader in mediation technologies will work together with
similar facilities at key OEM and VAR partner organizations to ensure that its own
research is integrated and consistent with other application developments across the wider
BSS/OSS ecosystem.
"15 years ago, DigitalRoute re-defined telco billing mediation" said Johan Bergh, CEO
DigitalRoute. "Since then, we've expanded our portfolio of solutions to include Online
Control offerings, Service Assurance Mediation and more. We continue to revolutionize the
Network-IT integration and push the boundaries even further through DR Xplore" Johan
added.
DR Xplore will focus on identifying advances in key operational areas where the impact
of the data explosion is most evident. These include:
- The Internet of Things (IoT)
The processing requirements demanded to support the evolution of machine-to-machine
services from simple telematics to today's growing range of more complex offerings
such as infotainment are evolving rapidly. If this trend is to become profitable for
the Service Provider, the need to differentiate traffic is critical. An example is
segmenting traffic that would be paid for by the content provider versus that
purchased and paid for by the end user. DR Xplore will focus on areas such as traffic
routing and monitoring including counting and control and will seek to fuel the
transition between simple device metering to continuously metering and reporting
services and usage, a shift that will require more advanced data processing
capabilities than CSPs are used to. Cisco estimates the IoT carries a $19tn global
value creation opportunity in increased revenue, decreased costs, business process
improvement and innovative urban services creation by 2022.
- Mediation and Software Defined Networks (SDN)
The transition to SDN has already started and as "hard"-ware becomes software,
significant TCO gains are expected for operators. But to make a true difference in
operational costs the SDN controllers need be aware of the networks utilization and
customer experience to then be able to optimize resources in the most effective way.
The success of self-optimizing networks is dependent on having network resources
virtualized and then being able to make real-time decisions on reconfiguring and
retrieving the right measurements from the network in a timely manner. The
opportunities for data capture and, thus, mediation will increase. DR Xplore will be
at the head of the curve turning mapping in already proven Service Assurance Mediation
and Online Control technology into the new virtualized network world.
In conclusion, Johan added: "Our challenge is, together with our partners, to imagine
what is possible for the Service Provider Community as the industry evolves, then create
solutions that enable the possible to become a reality."
