Now you can type on a smart watch

NEW YORK, Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Eatoni has solved the problem of typing on a watch, just in time for the wearables explosion. To see it in action download the Lunate app for iPhone/iPad which supplies the Lunate keyboard as an extension.

Lunate is a pure swipe keyboard. There are no keys for letters; instead, the letters are arranged around a watch face and each letter is selected with a swipe. With practice, you can input an entire  word in a single fluid motion. The system works well even on dainty watches. Typing just a few characters enables you to meaningfully respond to a  notification, search  for a contact, launch an app, take a quiz or play a game. The Lunate interface can serve as a watch-centric replacement for hierarchical menus and scrolling lists. Yet the Lunate keyboard is powerful enough to conveniently input full text. On a watch. "The more a smart watch helps you keep your phone in your pocket or purse, the more successful it will be," says Howard Gutowitz, CEO of Eatoni. "Lunate dramatically shifts user engagement from  phone to watch."

How it works: Each hour mark on the watch represents a group of letters: abc, def, etc. To input a letter: swipe inward across  the desired group. Then continue swiping  left, straight across, or right, to select the left, middle, or right letter in the group as your swipe exits to the other side. Watch  a Vine and a tutorial.

About Lunate: Lunate  is where the wrist, time and typing  come together. Lunate is named after a small bone in the wrist, in the shape of a crescent moon. The orbit of the moon is a fundamental measure in the human experience of time, as the Lunate orbit of letters around the clock face will become fundamental to the design and function of  wearable computers.
