Super League Unveils First-Ever Movie Theater Gaming League At PAX Prime 2015, Hosted By CaptainSparklez

Newly Launched Super League Gaming Has Partnered With The Nation's Three Largest Theater Chains To Turn Movie Theaters Into Entertaining, Multiplayer Arenas For Gamers Across The Nation

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Super League Gaming, the world's first in-theater video game league that transforms local movie theaters into engaging, multiplayer gaming arenas is coming to PAX Prime in Seattle on Aug. 29. The special PAX appearance will conclude a 25-city Summer Tour and reveal a new Minecraft game map as Super League ramps up for their first official, nationwide Fall League beginning on Oct. 6.

As online gaming and eSports have allowed players to connect in an increasingly broader context, Super League brings those same connections into a thrilling, real-life setting that turns everyday gaming into highly-social, interactive experiences within the movie theater and on the big screen.

Super League has partnered with the country's three largest theater chains -- Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, and Cinemark Theatres, as well as luxury chain iPic Theaters -- to bring their new form of team gameplay to players throughout the U.S. in six-week, after school, league sessions beginning this fall.

"This isn't a bunch of spectators watching a few people play. This is a hundred players, just like you, hanging out and competing every week," says Super League President and COO, Brett Morris. "It's totally immersive and takes the best parts of gameplay to a whole new level. The most deeply satisfying games, the ones that really draw us in, are the ones that have a community built around them. Super League turns those virtual communities into something far more real. That's what makes it exciting."

The Fall League will launch with Minecraft, with other popular game titles and genres to be announced in the coming months. Super League's proprietary technology uses Minecraft's open source API to merge all players onto a single movie screen, creating a wholly new experience for group gameplay. Gamers play in the traditional first-person view on their own laptops while a third-person aerial view of the customized Minecraft world, and their opponents, is projected on the theater screen. Players in the official Fall League will compete within Super League's new map, Crystal Crater, which allows teams to strategize and collaborate in a customized, in-theater game.

CaptainSparklez, one of YouTube's biggest Minecraft celebrities with over 8.6 million subscribers, is a founding gamer among the Super League team and will be hosting the Aug. 29 event with a special red carpet appearance and meet & greet, as well as media interviews. He will also be joined by ParkerGames, fellow Minecraft YouTube celebrity and Super League digital star.

"We're really excited about Seattle because there's a natural connection here. Just like PAX, our brand is a nod to the early days of arcades and how they bridged digital and physical in the same space. It was a really social experience where we made some of our best memories. I think Super League can recreate a lot of those same moments for today's players," says Super League Gaming Co-Founder and Chief Visionary John Miller. "We think that's where the culture of gaming is headed."

Super League's PAX Prime Event hosted by CaptainSparklez will take place from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Regal Meridian Theater, one block from the Washington State Convention Center. Media are invited to come learn more about the Fall League and witness Super League in action as they watch gamers and teams play live and in-theater, and see a preview of their original programming slate for the Super League YouTube channel. Super League's founding team will also be onsite and available for interviews. For press passes or other requests please email Jasmine (jasmine@jbcomms.com).
