Helinet Technologies Completes Build of Microwave Downlink Solution for Suffolk County Police Department's Aviation Section
New Airborne Law Enforcement System Provides Real Time Video and Data Link between Department Helicopters and Ground-Based Mobile Command Center
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Helinet Technologies, an international provider of aviation technology solutions to the law enforcement, government and military markets, announced today it has deployed a custom-developed microwave downlink solution for the Suffolk County Police Department's Aviation Section. The new system provides a real-time HD video and data link between the Department's two Airbus AS350B2 AStar helicopters and a ground-based mobile command vehicle. As part of the solution, Helinet also built out a tower receive site that provides uninterrupted, end-to-end coverage across the entire jurisdiction.

Developed to support a broad range of law enforcement and public safety missions on a 24/7 basis, the new downlink system utilizes a multiband transmission design to provide full interoperability with the transmission solutions of regional partners. During major operations, the new system allows the Department to share live video and data with other law enforcement and government agencies, enhancing its ability to coordinate effective joint responses.

The new solution utilizes a custom configuration of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products, optimized to support the Suffolk County PD's policing and public safety missions. Complete signal security is provided via 256 Bit AES encryption of all audio, video and data traffic. Other law enforcement agencies Helinet works with include the NYPD, LAPD, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Long Beach Police Department.
