SfN15: E-Prime and SMI Eye Tracking Fully Connected

BERLIN and PITTSBURGH, October 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

    - Psychology Software Tools (PST) and SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) announce a new
plug and play integration for SMI Eye Tracking and E-Prime stimulus presentation software

Psychology Software Tools (PST) [https://www.pstnet.com ] and SensoMotoric Instruments
(SMI) [http://www.smivision.com ] present a deep integration of their established
technologies for psychology and neuroscience research. E-Prime(R) Extensions for SMI

[http://www.smivision.com/en/gaze-and-eye-tracking-systems/products/overview.html ] with
PST's renowned stimulus presentation software. Researchers can easily add eye tracking
functionalities to their E-Prime experiments, create sophisticated paradigms and add
interactive responses to gaze information. Both companies will demo the new possibilities
for fields such as neurolinguistics, decision making and cognitive sciences at this week`s
SfN 2015 conference, the premier venue for Neuroscientists around the world (Chicago/USA,
October 18-21, 2015, SMI booth 605, PST booth 663).

and other SMI Eye Tracking solutions are directly controlled from E-Prime's experiment
design environment. This allows researchers to realize sophisticated experimental designs
relying on E-Prime's timing and flexibility, including gaze-contingent functionalities
where the display changes depending on a participant's gaze. This technique is employed to
verify target fixation in EEG studies, for establishing infant habituation or to
selectively display information on the fovea in reading research, and in many more fields.
During the experiment, feedback on gaze behavior can be show to participants for training.

For analysis of attention pattern and behavior, gaze direction, pupil and eye movement
data are readily available in E-Prime. At the same time, SMI's BeGaze software provides
fully compatible tools for in-depth eye tracking analysis of E-Prime experiments,
including visualizations, powerful AOI analysis as well as comprehensive statistics on
fixations and saccades.

E-Prime and E-Prime(R) Extensions for SMI will be available by the end of 2015. A
Starter Program is offered by PST for E-Prime(R) Extensions for SMI customers to help them
implement their first eye tracking experiment using the extension.

E-Prime(R) Extensions for SMI is compatible with a wide range of SMI's Scientific Eye
Tracking solutions which provide reliable eye and gaze information in diverse scenarios.
Screen-based devices include portable systems which run from a laptop; ideal for
scientific-grade studies at schools and other real-life locations. Specialized devices are
available for MRI applications, while SMI Eye Tracking Glasses 2w enable interactive
studies in daily scenarios. SMI Eye Tracker can be easily synchronized with other devices
using software messages, TTL trigger and other tools.

E-Prime(R) Extensions for SMI add to the range of capabilities of SMI Eye Tracking
Connected

. Via dedicated protocols, plug-ins and other options, SMI Eye Tracking can
easily be combined with leading partner solutions in fields ranging from multimodal
cognition research to virtual reality.

Dale Christopher, General Manager, Psychology Software Tools, Inc. (PST): "PST is
excited to announce our new partnership with SMI with the release of the E-Prime(R)
Extensions for SMI (EESMI) software. The integration with SMI's wide range of eye trackers
creates new possibilities for the E-Prime community and SMI's existing E-Prime user
base. Collaborating with the skilled and enthusiastic SMI organization made an otherwise
difficult development process easy. To have a comprehensive, integrated solution spanning
desktop, mobile, and fMRI eye tracking has long been a goal for us and to finally realize
it is a large step forward for PST."

Meike Mischo, Product Manager, SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI): "The team at PST worked
closely with us to create this streamlined integration of our established tools, their
stimulus presentation software and our eye tracking solutions. The E-Prime(R) Extensions
for SMI add to the range of options which connect SMI Eye Tracking with partner software,
with EEG and other external sensors. This way, researchers can flexibly combine SMI Eye
Tracking with the solutions needed for their research."
