New Industry Collaborations Validate Demand For Internet of Things

ZigBee Alliance and IPv6 Forum Form Strategic Relationships with the IPSO Alliance to Speed Adoption of IP Networked Smart Objects

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., May 24 -- The IPSO Alliance, the leading organization promoting the use of Internet Protocol (IP) for smart object communications, today announced partnerships with two major industry consortiums-the IPv6 Forum and ZigBee® Alliance. By working together, these three organizations aim to more quickly accelerate the adoption of IP networked devices for use in energy, consumer, healthcare and industrial applications, often referred to as the "Internet of Things."

"Having the support of two industry influences like the ZigBee Alliance and IPv6 Forum validates the demand for IP solutions in the market," said Geoff Mulligan, chairman of the IPSO Alliance. "We continue to see IP becoming the solution of choice for enabling communication for smart objects."

"The increase of IP-based applications will be transformative not only in enhancing our personal lives, but in forging advances in energy conversation, health care, and industrial productivity, making our world greener, healthier and more efficient," said Allen Nogee, principal analyst, In-Stat, a technical analyst firm with nearly 30 years of history in research and consulting. "Continued collaboration within these organizations will increase the momentum and global acceptance of IP for smart networked devices."

IPSO and the ZigBee Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless solutions, will collaborate on wireless home area networks (HAN) using the ZigBee IP specification and the ZigBee Smart Energy(TM) standard. The two alliances will work on expanding HANs by using IP technology, which will give utilities more flexibility in future Smart Grid deployments. For more information, visit http://www.zigbee.org.

IPSO and the IPv6 Forum, a consortium of leading Internet service vendors, national research & education networks, and international ISPs, will promote a common platform of interoperability based on the IPv6 Ready Logo Program and drive deployment of Internet of Things based on IPv6. Forum members will jointly benefit from this awareness and interop initiative in sharing essential knowledge in their key events and in seeking and designing new joint initiatives on a worldwide basis. About IPSO Alliance

The IPSO Alliance is the primary advocate for IP for smart objects for use in energy, consumer, healthcare and industrial applications. The Alliance, a non-profit organization whose members include leading technology, communications and energy companies, is providing the foundation for a network that will allow any sensor-enabled physical object to communicate to another as individuals do over the Internet. The IPSO Alliance membership is open to any organization supporting an IP-based approach to connecting smart objects. For more information, visit http://www.ipso-alliance.org.
