George Lucas has written some of the worst dialogue imaginable. He wanted Arnold to appear in Episode 3 but he said the script had too many action movie cliches for an actor of his calibur.

He's also written one of the greatest universes imaginable so his dialogue is easy to forgive. Though if you want to take dialogue into account, Whedon still pales in comparison to Lucas because The Phantom Menace dialogue may have been bad but I guarantee you that you can turn to a rerun of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel and find dialogue that's worse on any given day.
