Soon to Build New System Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:44:57 PM#200510Perm Link
OK Guys and Girls; Gentlemen and Ladies;
After many a year of 'taunting' I am on my way to build a new system. So let's get to the basics first>> I am using a 2001/2 Compaq with an AMD Athlon 1.33 with 2 x 512 RAM and who knows what the GPU of 64mb G-force could really be at this point. This is soon to be a stereo until something major dies because I got stuff on the way.
I already have a CM 690 with a 6switch Rheobus and a whole bunch of fans, but tomorrow I will get my 1.5 TB WD Black and 3.5GHz AMD Phenom II in th email. Then next week I will order my 990 Gigabyte Mobo with 16 GB of 1600 RAM from G. Skill and an ATI V4800 GPU for CAD application.
So I have bored you for years and struggled to save but a new system is happening soon.
I thank Aron and others for helping me to learn what I needed to know and I will report back in mid Sept. of the specifics of the set-up. I Am not an OC'er or a Gamer though I have no adverse to those who are; I'm just a guy that needs a power-house to crunch some numbers don't ya know
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3, Phenom II X4 970 Black @ 3.5, G.Skill Sniper DDR3-1600 4 X 4 gig's, WD Black 7200rpm 1.5 TB, ATI Fire-Pro V4800 Kubuntu & Ubuntu 64-bit on separate primary partitions and sharing Doc.'s,Music and Pictures on a Logical Partition.
Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today? Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection. Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!
OK, Been up and running Since the 11th of Sept. Still working on configuration and set-up in Kubuntu. Kinda like near but different terminology than Ubuntu and a whole bunch of extra options. I'm over in the K-Forums a lot right now but will check-in and report-back as things progress. I will not forget that I learned a lot in HL and ASE before I built and will soon be back to try and help with what little I know.
I will try to start with this. Regardless of how smart one is [me included] listen and pay attention to simple instructions on how to build a physical system I thought I knew better and installed my PSU and two 120mm upper/top case fans before my Mobo. I was WRONG. I had a b***h of a time with my heat-sink install. [Noctua NH-C12P] The socket orientation on the Mobo dictated a right to left instead of a up&down and that along with the cabling made for a hard go of it but I got her done
Like I said I am still sorting out some configuration issues over in the Kubuntu Forums. I do not want to double or triple up on looking for solutions. However that being said I still am set for e-mail notification from here at ASE Labs Forum and fully plan to contribute and pass on what little I may know in the future. I will not forget where I started out learning at HL Forums and continued to learn here at ASE Labs Forums.
Oh wow, just realized I did not properly 'mount' my logical partitions. Waiting for responses, I have 3 choices I think 1] is the Partition Manager in Kubuntu, 2] G-Parted Live CD, 3]Reinstall and start all over. Please give an opinion if you use Linux, any Distro.
If you are a Kubuntu or Linux User and think you want to check in or help; my post over there are under [wanderingarcticfox]. I have some minor and a few major set-up and configuration issues still to go before I can up-load my pictures I took during the physical build of the system.
Cheers to ALL
