Pretty strong words saying you are ashamed to be an American based on this?

You can't tell me that you want America to strip away the fourth amendment. Yes, the CONSTITUTION grants our right to privacy.

I am a person..again...did I imply that I want the Fourth Ammendment stripped? NO, I did not. Do not put words in my mouth. I simply said you said you are ashamed to say you are an American? If you are, then why are you here? Do you want to retract that statement? Were you just speaking from the hip?

This is a great country and I am proud to be and say I am an American no matter what. Yes the US government has made some bad decisions to say the least, but that in no way should make you or I ashamed to be an American...should it?

Yes it should. America should be about what the people want... I thought this is a Democracy?

The majority of Americans DO NOT want warrantless wiretapping to be legal. Why should a few people in power be allowed to delegate our rights away because it will be easier for them to control us?

The terrorism stint that we are in is so bullshit. It is handled wrong. Yes, I would go on the offensive. I wouldn't have attacked Iraq... It would have been Iran. And make no mistake, I don't feel that these 'security' measure are helping keeping us safe at all...

And no, my statement still stands under the context that I wrote it in.

Yes, I've been ashamed to be an American for some time now.

I'd gladly leave the country, and I plan on doing so. When I'm about 23-24, I'm moving to Canada. I don't know if I'll be able to get citizenship (fingers-crossed), but I'll at least be able to live there and not be afraid.

I think that mike's confused because America hasn't changed it's name. Think about it like when Russia became the USSR, Germany became "Germany, home of the Nazis", the Galactic Republic became the Galactic Empire.

Aron is probably the proudest American I know, he bleeds red white and blue. Moving to china would be stupid, Aron's point is that with this Bullshit, we're fucking BECOMING china, except without the wall or the cheap labor so pretty much a worthless crappy china that still has a crushing grip on its citizens.

Anyways. I'm going to fight this as hard as I fought against the war in iraq, the patriot act, george bush's reelection, and everything else that has happened in spite of mass dissaproval.

Anyways, I'm not ashamed to be an American but I'm ashamed of what our politicians do to appear "tough on terror" or to have "family values".

But what about when they hear your conversation with your friendly local drug dealer about picking up some weed? Or when you joke with a friend about selling crack?

its not like people are actually listening without any reason, they have computers listening to find keywords, but its not like they care about drugs and shit, its more for like bomb keywords and stuff, and if your joking, then its what 2-3 times it will be caught on the computer, not enough to flag it for suspicion anyways, its stupid to really worry imo. Its not that im for it, but I just dont care enough to make a big deal about it

Then you are a fool. I also realize that you are not old enough to understand that the government will take mile with every inch of personal freedoms they take. You mention that it isn't for drug use... why is that? It would be simple to expand the program once warrantless wiretapping is legal...

How about talk against the government? Yeah, this is a dangerous road.

Fact of the matter is, the FBI wasn't supposed to be using library records to look for communists, but they arrested a teen who borrowed several books on communism for a school report. The CIA wasn't supposed to turn a blind eye to anti-communist terrorists from south america selling cocaine in los angeles but they did. Oliver North should have realized it wasn't a "neat idea" to sell weapons to Iran but he did. Clinton shouldn't have lied to congres about a sex act but he did.

Our govt says that when Iran promises their nuclear enrichment program is just for energy we shouldn't trust them, but when the pres says the wiretapping will be just for terror we should trust him. Why? Because of our govt's great track record?

I think that's just kinda creepy though... I wouldn't like the fact of being monitered on the phone and the internet... But then again it would help catch more terrosits and stuff wouldn't it? I dunno.... lol I'm thinking outloud, but any ways, I think it can be put to very good use...

Every president since I've been alive has used what little power was given to them in improper ways, ways that weren't intended. Same with the lesser branches of govt. I doubt that the idea behind Congress holding hearings where they're able to call anyone forward was intended to be used to investigate whether or not atheletes use illegal drugs.
