Video card? Old Thu Dec 21, 2006 3:35:30 PM #30384 Perm Link
Well pretty much, once and a while my computer decides that when I try to play movies in any program (WMP, Real Player, VLC, etc.) it'll play the sound but the video will appear purple (not tinted purple, just solid purple). By movies I mean DVDs and just random files I might have on my computer. For some reason video sites show up fine (like youtube), and eventually my computer always goes back to playing movies fine, but it sure is a pain in the booty.

Sooo.... the whole purple video thing is happening at the moment, and I was just wondering what could be causing it and how to fix it Huge Grin

I don't know if it's my video card or drivers or whatever, but if it is I have no idea how my computer can magically fix itself.

Edit: I guess I should tell you my graphics.. or video.. or whatever's under the display tab of the control panel thingy card.

It says it's an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Try a real media player like Media Player Classic.

A purple screen happens when you have multiple monitor output types (IE: TV or computer monitor) and media player or the video card drivers refuse to output to the non-selected one.

Try MPC, it has no DRM restrictions.

Well, I tried the media player you gave me a link to but that didn't work. Guess I'll just have to wait it out hehe.

Would it be possible to take a screenshot of the monitor section of display properties?

I'm assuming that's what you meant by monitor, not like my wallpaper or something Smile

Have you tried re-formating? I realize this is a bit of an extreme, but it would be more convenient than buying a new video card.

Its not who a person is in the inside, but what he does that defines him.

I've reformatted my computer enough to realize it's not very pleasant Razz

I'd kinda rather just wait it out if that's my only option.

plus a 3d option, but I don't think that applies here

I got the video to show up, got all excited, and then I didn't apply the settings apparently. I tried to move the settings to what I had them at (I only changed the gamma % and maybe saturation a little) but that hasn't worked out so far. I guess I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help! =)

Judging from this it seems it is just a driver setting. It is probably some minor checkbox that wasn't set.

Did you ever get it fixed properly?
