Favorite 80's bands Wed Apr 18, 2007 6:56:27 PM#36989Perm Link
For those of you who remember the 80s, or who listen to 80s music, who was/is your favorite 80s band? I used to listen to Air Supply a lot (finally got to see them in concert in Las Vegas about five years ago as well). I also liked Chicago and Survivor.
Here's my guilty pleasure from that time: Boy George! I loved those songs! I also likes Air Supply... the rest I can't remember. I know I was listening to a lot of italian and Spanish music. Seems like such a long time ago!
Hmm...in my collection I have Flock of Seagulls, The Knack, The Cars, Adam and the Ants, Blondie, The The, Talking Heads, Joan Jett, but others that I like that I haven't got yet are Devo, Joy Division, Duran Duran, plenty more I can't remember right now. I know most of them started in the 70s but didn't really hit it big til the 80s.
I agree...I think 2007 is going to be a great year for music...finally people know who the Kaiser Chiefs are, and Queens of the Stone Age and the Hives will have new albums this year...I better save up, shows are gonna get GOOOOOD.
I wasn't too into The Kaiser Chief's new album although "Rubies" kicked ass as a single. They toured here with The Walkmen, but it was over twenty bucks and I was working.
My TOP favorite group was Duran Duran. I also loved Air Supply, Chicago, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi... there really are too many to mention. I loved many of the "British Invasion" groups that came over.
The 80s genre is still one of my favorites as far as music style. There is nothing quite like it!
Americans know the Kaiser Chiefs ? Viva Britannica !
while I'm on the subject - Muse ! The Killers ! The Kooks !
'nuff said.
Haha I love telling my story of how I got into the Chiefs.
I was working at a Spencer's in Florida back in '05, and while stocking some stuff I picked up these shirts with a bunch of guys on it (as illustrated below):
Everyone was puzzled. Who are Kaiser Chiefs? Who knows. Maybe it'll sell.
Then one day I decided to check out some songs that had been coming on in the store that sounded good. Aha! 3 of them were Kaiser Chief songs (this was also how I discovered Louis XiV and got into QoTSA as well)...so I liked them.
By then, the shirts were marked down to $6 and with my discount, $3. I was the coolest kid in Florida just for knowing who they were and no one else.
By the way, if you have only heard the Kaiser Chiefs this year and only know about the Ruby song, no. Buy the first album, Employment. It's not so mushy and it's much more fun, in my opinion. I haven't heard the whole new one though but I kinda have an idea.
Agreed, like I said, the new one really isn't that good at all. They should have opened for The Walkmen instead of vice verca because at least 100 Miles Off has more than a single going for it.
Oh yeah that's right! I almost forgot the name of that band. If this were Kaiser Chiefs touring for their first album, I wouldn't have minded the $20 fare.
I liked Madonna. But, most of my best music listening was the 70's. Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, AC/DC (the first time around), Boston, Aerosmith (the first time around), Kansas, REO Speedwagon.
