Best Computer Brands? Old Tue Apr 24, 2007 10:51:31 AM #37297 Perm Link
What are the best brands for desktop computers? I started out with an Acer that broke down a lot, progressed to a Dell which was great but got outdated, and now I have an HP which is okay but it seems like every other day or so I'm recovering from a "serious system failure" caused by one of their drivers. Which computers are your favorites?

Also, do you have any good advice about notebook manufacturers?

self-built for PCs, IBM/Lenovo for Notebooks. Though I don't know enough about note books to be listened to here.

I run an HP laptop. I've had it for about 4 years now. I've had minimal trouble. The keyboard went bad last year (that was an easy fix $36.00 later). The only other problem I had was with a battery. But that's so common that I would almost consider it a consumable. I don't like that HP "tattoos" their motherboards, but there's a fairly easy way around that. I guess I've been partial to HP (but Compaq sucks). I really don't like Dell. I haven't had any experience with IBM or Lenovo. All my other experience is with custom built stuff.

"I knew it. I'm surrounded by a$$holes!"

Get whatever is the best price for features that you can find. Laptops are buy once and throw away when outdated.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

for desktop, I think the best brand would actually be self-build as you can choose which components to use. Generally ifyou are looking for prebuild I think sony usually is a better build.

I'm going to be very open minded about this, and I'll tell you the computers I had over the last 22 years, so you know which is my favorite brand. Apple IIc, Macintosh classic, Mac IIcs, Apple Notebook, iMac (the first one ever, in blue) and the one I'm using now, an iBook. My next computer? MacBook the moment I have enough money!

I build my own and my friends computers. I have an Acer Ferarri Laptop. I have an older HP that is still running great. My choice for buying is Acer and/or HP.

I have to say I give you guys credit when you say you build your own. I would not know where to begin to do something like that. I have just your basic HP. It's been an alright computer. Next one will be a laptop but not sure which brand though yet.
