Question mark Ramsinks or Heat Spreaders? Old Sun Jul 25, 2004 5:09:34 PM #9364 Perm Link
Hello. This is my first post, so dont think you never noticed me before. Anyways, I've got some nice cheapo Centon DDR333 that I've got a nice overclock running on. As of now it's running at 175Mhz, up from the 167Mhz it was orrigionaly at. No problems at all... However, I dont really NEED more speed, but for the sake of good tinkering habits I WANT more speed, and to do that I'm pretty much going to need some RAM cooling. So really I would like your oppinions on which would be better and have more bang for my buck, ramsinks or heat spreaders? Like i said, i dont need the speed, i just want it, so tell me what you would do if you were me. Thanks....

P.S. I'm not cheap, i just dont like to spend money.

Welcome to the site and the forums.

Now, if you want to overclock, do not use Centon garbage RAM. In fact, if you want your computer to run correctly, don't use that crap. I've had a few machines that didn't work because of bad Centon RAM.

I'd recommend some good brands such as Crucial, Corsair, Kingston (Not ValueRAM), Mushkin, and TwinMOS. Crucial has the best stability period. They even have new overclocking RAM.

RAMsinks are pretty, and also pretty useless.

I'll agree with you on the fact that centon is garbage. However, it was all i could afford at the time. I'm surprised it has actualy been able to run at this speed, it seems like i keep bumping it up and it keeps taking it. So yes i know buying good RAM is the ultimate solution but why not try for the minimum dollar approach? I can always sell it to my friend if it doesnt work out.

No problem bud.

Actually, you can try RAMsinks, but in my experience, they don't work. I'm surprise that RAM even overclocked at all. Proper cooling is key in overclocking.

ive used both ram sinks and heat spreaders and theyve helped out in a way with higher OCs for me, at most a few extra mhz, but they help out a lot with heat. not to mention, if you find some nice ramsinks it adds a little extra style. thermal take actually has some really nice ones, but from the way i see it, its only for extreme cooling purposes.
