SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- KIXEYE, a leading free-to-play game developer, today launched its new brawler MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) TOME: Immortal Arena on Steam. The game's debut on Steam is marked by the launch of a 5v5 Map "Sanctuary". Available now for free download TOME: Immortal Arena turns a new page for the MOBA category, with a streamlined, fast-paced, action-first approach to the popular game genre.
With a guiding design philosophy that emphasizes action and accessibility, TOME: Immortal Arena rewrites the unintuitive elements of the genre that clutters and complicates gameplay. Conceived and created by a team of gaming veterans who have collectively contributed to some of the most notable MOBAs (League of Legends), competitive RTS titles (Command & Conquer), and MMORPGs (World of Warcraft) in history, TOME: Immortal Arena offers a fresh, fast, and more fight-focused take for inexperienced and seasoned players alike.
In TOME: Immortal Arena, players -- or 'Harbingers' -- enter the arena, battling with a team of Guardians for supremacy over a domain in conflict. Fighting within the two-lane 3v3 'Coliseum' map, or newly unveiled 5v5 'Sanctuary' map, players defeat their opponent's minions, Guardians, and ultimately, Tower, to win these furious 10-20 minute matches.
"TOME: Immortal Arena was meticulously created to extract the minutiae from the MOBA genre and pack in the polish and elements that equal a fast, fun, rewarding experience for players at all levels," remarked Rade Stojsavljevic of KIXEYE. "We can't wait to play TOME with the Steam community - this is the day we've been working towards."
TOME: Immortal Arena Features:
-- Fast not Frustrating: Matches last 10-15 minutes as opposed to 30-60
minute matches in traditional MOBA titles, reducing frustration and
player toxicity.
-- Constant Action: Stale genre hallmarks and unintuitive gameplay
mechanics have been removed and improved. With in-lane healing, no
last-hitting, the ability to purchase items from anywhere on the map,
and an auto-buy feature, typical hurdles that halt the action have been
streamlined for a faster, more action-focused experience.
-- Always Earning: Players earn Guardian XP, Devotion, and favor with the
six Gods every battle, even within Practice Modes. This unlocks a
variety of rewards such as Relics and Blessings that players can use to
customize their collection of Guardians for a more personalized
experience.
-- Guardians Galore: Battle and level with your choice of 20 Guardians at
launch, with more to be introduced in the future.

Nikon Inc. Announces New 'I AM Generation Image' Integrated Campaign To Celebrate and Support a World That Communicates Visually
"I AM Generation Image" Will Include Inspiring Content and Encourage Others to Share Their Own Passions Through Authentic Imagery
MELVILLE, N.Y., Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Nikon Inc. has announced its new "I AM Generation Image" integrated campaign, which is the imaging leader's new platform to amplify the voices of individuals who want to stand out in a world of visual noise. The brand campaign aims to reinforce confidence in the entry-level and enthusiast DSLR markets, and inspire people to create images far beyond just "good enough," to have their stories heard. "I AM Generation Image" will officially start today, with the launch of an immersive website featuring the content of a select group of creative individuals representing some of the eyes and voices of this generation.
"Each day we upload tens of thousands of images, making us the first generation to truly embrace pervasive visual communication. Whether it's love, laughter or a call to act for the greater good, the feeling you get when you look at a photo or watch a video should reflect the intent and emotions of the person behind the lens," said Lisa Baxt, Associate General Manager of Communications, Nikon Inc. "Generation Image was created to answer this need, and celebrates the stories of our lives and the important role that imagery plays in telling them, while inspiring users to capture more, and capture better using Nikon."
Defining "I AM Generation Image"
The concept of "Generation Image" was born from a desire to understand people's relationships with their images. After extensive research, it became clear that the number of images captured and shared every day is significantly increasing, and that quality is critical to celebrate and purposefully represent the motivations of this new generation of image makers. Across the country, people are using their cameras as a tool to share what is important to them and each have the potential for significant impact. From families or hobbies, personal causes to accomplishments, this new segment of creative individuals enjoys expressing and sharing what they are passionate about through photos and videos. On social media channels, the hashtag #IAMGenerationImage is a rallying cry. It echoes the desire to deliver the best images possible, in order to convey emotions and passions that rise above the noise.
"I AM Generation Image" reminds us that we are all part of this generation, and Nikon will enable our stories to ring loud, true and authentic. The campaign will help to define this generation as the first to overwhelmingly express themselves through images en masse and on a global scale. The successful "I AM" international campaign has acted as a worldwide catalyst for millions of fans to self-identify with the Nikon brand. The new campaign builds upon the "I AM" architecture to make imaging a personal experience for North America.
Campaign Elements
In North America, the campaign begins today in the United States with an experience site that features content from a select group of extraordinary individuals who document their own passions through imagery. This group of visual storytellers will capture content that will be seen through an immersive experiential website that acts as a portal, offering a glimpse into their fascinating worlds. These individuals are a diverse group of personalities who are not professional photographers; they represent a wide range of stories from entrepreneurs, philanthropists, comedians and more. The online portal will also act as a hub for the campaign, offering followers a chance to become personally invested with the lives of this imaginative group as they share content in real-time. Formal participants in the campaign will share imagery under the hashtag "#IAMGenerationImage" and Nikon will encourage widespread consumer participation through its social channels.
The "I AM Generation Image" Campaign will be driven by non-traditional media, including video advertisements, digital media on relevant websites, rich media and social paid promotion. Additionally, a series of videos defining the campaign will drive to the branded microsite. Consumers will see an immersive experience through rich media advertisements, and both mobile and desktop users will enjoy an interactive experience with high production values for video and sound. Users will also be encouraged to interact with the campaign by tagging their own visual stories with #IAmGenerationImage for the chance to be incorporated into the campaign. Advertisements will run through the end of 2014 and the Spring of 2015 to support the various aspects of the campaign.
The integrated campaign was created and will be executed by Nikon's agency partners, McCann Erickson, ID Media, MRM / McCann, Initiative Media and MWW.

Microsemi Introduces Innovative High Reliability Outdoor Lightning Protection Device for Ethernet Solutions
Offers Investment Protection for a Wide Range of Outdoor Ethernet Installations, Outdoor Wi-Fi APs, Outdoor Mesh, Outdoor Point-to-point and Outdoor IP Cameras
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the availability of its new high reliability PD-OUT/SP11, an outdoor-rated lightning protection device supporting both Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and non-PoE enterprise installations.
The new Microsemi PD-OUT/SP11 is a single-port device, protecting all eight wires of the Ethernet cable while enabling data streams of up to 10/100/1000mbps and PoE levels up to 95W. The device is optimized for outdoor devices such as security cameras and wireless LAN access points (AP) and features lighting protection up to 10KV. According to market research firm Infonetics, around 300,000 outdoor WLAN APs are expected to ship in 2014, growing to 650,000 in 2018.
"Historically there has been a lack of awareness about the danger of lighting to enterprise solutions and the availability of a certified outdoor protection device. Nearby lightning strikes are much more common than most people think and a strike as far as a mile away can induce a voltage level that can damage expensive outdoor enterprise devices. Without lightning protection, surges also can move quickly along the Ethernet cable and damage expensive indoor network switches," said Sani Ronen, director of product management for Microsemi's PoE systems. "The PD-OUT/SP11 is designed to provide the most optimal protection in a flexible solution for all types of outdoor Ethernet installations, Wi-Fi APs and outdoor IP cameras--and offers the certified surge protection level for products integrated in an outdoor enclosure, as well."
The national weather service reported there are approximately 23 million lightning strikes per year in the U.S. Most of the existing Ethernet lighting protection devices are indoor, which limits the location of the protection and installation to the indoor environment only. The PD-OUT/SP11 is outdoor-rated and therefore can be installed in the optimal location--the exact point the Ethernet cable is entering the building--resulting in maximum protection from lightning hitting the outdoor devices or the outdoor cable.
Microsemi's newest product can be installed in PoE environments or in non-PoE environments and is vendor agnostic, meaning the switch and the PoE solution can come from any vendor. The PD-OUT/SP11 has been tested successfully to the GR-1089, IEC61643-21 and ITU-T K.45 lightning standard for surges up to 10KV. The device's low capacitance ensures data rates of up to 1Gbps will pass through with no interruption. In addition, PoE levels of up to 95W can pass through the SP11 device (supporting IEEE 802.3af, IEEE802.3at and HDBaseT).
About the SP11
The PD-OUT-SP11 is a high quality surge protection device designed to protect indoor Ethernet networks from lighting that may come from the outdoor environment through the Ethernet cable. The product is enclosed in a metal weatherproof enclosure, meeting IP66. It can be easily mounted on a wall or a pole. The SP device can be installed before the cable enters the building to protect the indoor network or immediately adjacent to the wall- or pole-mounted outdoor device (i.e., WLAN AP, IP camera, etc.).

LANCASTER, Pa., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Industry forecasters expect holiday spending to heat up this year. The National Retail Federation projects an increase of more than 4 percent over 2013 sales. That rate is more than 40 percent higher than the average annual holiday spending growth over the past ten years.
But consumers are also expected to remain price sensitive. That means you're likely to have plenty of bargain-hunting company sharing the shopping excitement with you on Black Friday. Retailers are preparing for the uptick with attractive deals, and shoppers who plan ahead are likely to benefit most. Here are some tips for the savvy Black Friday shopper.
Start with a list. Write down everyone you're shopping for and your preliminary gift ideas. This will focus your bargain-hunting efforts and help you avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Take advantage of all the information available in advance. Black Friday deals of some retailers have been going public since just after Halloween. And you have plenty of help finding them from Web sites that specialize in posting copies of retailers' ads and flyers.
Check Local Merchants Too. You'll see plenty of deals advertised by major national chains. But don't forget your local newspapers, coupon magazines, apps and Web sites to help you find bargains at neighborhood businesses.
Combine Savings Opportunities. You may be able to increase your savings with coupons for items already on sale. Loyalty programs can also help. For example, Turkey Hill Minit Markets offers customers a creative way to turn holiday shopping into fuel savings.
"We have plenty of Black Friday deals of our own on products from ice cream to smartphones and tablets--not to mention a free cup of coffee, fountain drink, or Slushey to keep you energized and refreshed while you shop," said Kim Hertzog, Public Relations Manager, Turkey Hill Minit Markets.
"But there's a great reason to make Turkey Hill your first Black Friday stop," she added. "We sell gift cards for many of the merchants you'll want to visit. You can spend them like cash where you plan to shop. Just present your Turkey Hill Rewards card when you buy them in our stores, and you'll earn points that you can use to save on your next fill-up at Turkey Hill."

The ShowerSaver - Moving the Shower into the 21st Century
HOBOKEN, N.J., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Starts Here, LLC today announced the official product launch of the ShowerSaver(TM), a monitoring device for use in the shower that provides the user with real-time information on shower duration and water consumption. The ShowerSaver(TM) features a sensor which allows it to turn on and off automatically - users just need to get in and start showering! It also requires no connection to the plumbing, doesn't control water flow, and is simple to install.
"We like to say that this moves the shower into the 21st century," said Kevin Myers, Founder of Green Starts Here and inventor of the device. "With all of the information available to today's generation, the shower has remained pretty much the same. But a number of recent studies have shown that simply providing users with information can lead to changes in behavior, in this case a shorter shower. Not only does that help your wallet, but the environment benefits from lower fresh water and energy consumption, as well as the related carbon emissions."
With much of the Western United States and 100% of California in a severe drought, the ShowerSaver(TM) provides a fun and easy way to reduce your environmental impact, each time you shower. Young children can also benefit by learning the importance of water and energy conservation as over 1 billion people do not have easy access to clean, fresh drinking water.
Unlike rudimentary shower timing devices, the ShowerSaver's design features various psychological cues, which encourage users to reduce their shower time. Most prominently, a virtual water level rises in tandem with shower duration, which then corresponds to green, yellow, and red - color cues with which our minds are very familiar. With the average shower costing up to $500 annually per person, use of the ShowerSaver(TM) can extend well beyond the home. Other potential applications include the hospitality industry, colleges/universities, and health/fitness clubs. The suggested retail price is $59.95, with wholesale pricing also available upon request. Look for the ShowerSaver(TM) on our website, GreenStartsHere.com, or on Amazon.com.

Phasx(TM) Launches Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign for Thunder UnderBass
Thunder UnderBass transforms ordinary desktop speakers into a dynamic range speaker system
APOPKA, Fla., Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the last 10 years, millions of powered desktop, computer speakers, and TV sound bars have been bought by consumers looking for quality sound in their workspace and living spaces. While there have been some breakthroughs made, appearances of quality computer and TV speakers have been few and far between.
Thunder UnderBass bridges the gap between conventional speakers and people who seek superior quality audio. How? Why? Thunder UnderBass is a HiFi USB subwoofer loaded with killer Digital Signal Processing (also known as DSP to geeks). Thunder UnderBass turns existing active speakers into 192kHz/ 24bit digital dynamos with the added bonus of a very serious subwoofer to boot.
Far from being intrusive, no one will see Thunder UnderBass as just another piece of computer equipment to be hidden away as more cables and wires hassle users. It fits nicely on any desktop, under a TV or in a component rack. Now anyone can watch TV, movies, play video games, and listen to music in an expanded dimension of sound - as all of today's media experiences were meant to be heard.
Everyone who works at Phasx has been spoiled with awesome bass on their desks for a long time thanks to their own line of pro audio monitors. As is true of most great inventions they asked themselves a "What if?" question; What if they were to take the very best elements of their professional-grade equipment, build it for the consumer market and design it to work with anyone's existing equipment? The talented team at Phasx answered that question with Thunder UnderBass.
Crowdfunding is sought to take existing, fully functional prototypes into mass production. Phasx is not a multi-billion dollar company and want to divert existing manufacturing resources to this new product but not without sufficient funding and established consumer interest which this crowdfunding project makes possible.
About Phasx: Founded in 2006, Phasx Technologies, Inc. makes professional studio monitors and control systems for desktop audio production. They're giving the power back to the recording artist, where it belongs. Based in Apopka, Florida, the company is run by its two founders leading a team of engineers, musicians and artists who are passionate about music and high quality audio. Microchip Announces A Microcontroller Family that Provides Closed Loop Digital Control and Safety Monitoring with Core Independent Peripherals
BANGKOK, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Microchip Technology Inc.[NASDAQ: MCHP], a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, has announced from Electronica inGermany an expansion of its 8-bit PIC® microcontroller (MCU) portfolio, with the peripheral-rich, low-pin count PIC16(L)F161X <http://www.microchip.com/PIC16_LF161X-Family-Product-Page-111114a> family. These new MCUs introduce and expand the offering of Microchip's Core Independent Peripherals (CIP), which were designed to reduce interrupt latency, lower-power consumption and increase system efficiency and safety, while minimising design time and effort. These peripherals are designed to reduce system complexity by eliminating the need for additional code and external components. Hardware-based peripherals offload timing-critical and core-intensive functions from the CPU, allowing it to focus on other critical tasks within the system.
The PIC16(L)F161X PIC MCUs offer the Math Accelerator (Math ACC) with Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), offering completely core independent calculations, with the capability to perform 16-bit math and PID operations. The family also includes the Angular Timer (AngTmr), which is a hardware module that calculates the rotational angel in functions, such as motor control, TRIAC control, or Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) systems. Regardless of speed, the AngTmr allows recurring interrupts at a specific rotational or sinusoidal angle without using the core's computation. The CIPs can be configured to perform a host of given functions that increase execution speeds and decrease software requirements. Offloading these functions frees up the CPU to do other tasks, consumes less program memory, and reduces the overall power consumption of the MCU.
In addition to the MATH ACC and AngTmr, the PIC16(L)F161X features several other peripherals designed to ease implementation and add flexibility of various functions. The 24-bit Signal Measurement Timer (SMT) performs high-resolution measurements of digital signal, in hardware, resulting in more precise and accurate measurements. This is ideal for speed control, range finding and RPM indicators. This family also includes the Zero Cross Detect (ZCD) module, which can monitor AC line voltage, and indicate zero crossing activity. Simplifying TRIAC control applications greatly reduces both CPU demand and BOM cost. In combination with the new high-current I/Os (100 mA) and the proven Configurable Logic Cell (CLC) along with I2Câ¢, SPI and EUSART for communications, this integration helps speed design, eases implementation and adds flexibility.
This family also supports the implementation of safety standards such as Class B and UL 1998 or fail-safe operations by combining the Windowed Watchdog Timer (WWDT) which monitors proper software operation within predefined limits, improving reliability and Cyclic Redundancy Check with Memory Scan (CRC/SCAN) that detects and scans memory for corrupted data. Along with the Hardware Limit Timers (HLT), which detect hardware fault conditions (stall, stop, etc.), engineers can now enable safety and monitoring functions in their applications with minimum to zero involvement of the CPU. Along with all these features, the family offers low-power XLP technology and is provided in small-form-factor packages, ranging from 8-, 14- and 20- pin packages.
"The expansion of the PIC16F161X family provides a broad mix of Core Independent Peripherals that enable a wide variety of functions including motor control and safety monitoring," saidSteve Drehobl, vice president of Microchip's MCU8 Division. "These peripherals enable designers to create functions for closed loop control with little to no interaction with the core. This is an asset to any designer, empowering them with the ability to create customisable functions specific to their application, all while minimising their code development."
Development support
The PIC16(L)F161X family is supported by Microchip's standard suite of world-class development tools, including thePICkit⢠3 <http://www.microchip.com/PICkit-3-Page-111114a> (part # PG164130) and MPLAB® ICD 3 <http://www.microchip.com/MPLAB-ICD-3-Page-111114a> (part # DV164035). TheMPLAB® Code Configurator <http://www.microchip.com/MPLAB-Code-Configurator-Page-111114a>, which is a plug-in for Microchip's free MPLAB® X IDE that provides a graphical method to configure 8-bit systems and peripheral features, and gets you from concept to prototype in minutes by automatically generating efficient and easily modified C code for your application.

The Data Revolution has Created a New World of Potential Insights
The convergence of social, mobile, cloud and connected computing has sparked a data revolution. More than 90 percent of the world's data has been generated over the last two years(1), creating a new world of potential insights for companies to know their customers in a whole new way. Unfortunately, those insights are more elusive than ever for today's business professional, who is handcuffed by the limits of outdated, on-premise service bureau analytics software.
Companies today must bring together disparate data sources at the pace business users demand and in a way IT trusts, all while ensuring the data is intuitive to explore. They must be able to quickly deploy analytics apps that empower business users to identify correlations and patterns. And the resulting insights must be based on accurate data sources that lead business users down a path to success.

InformationWeek Releases Fitness Tracker Gift Guide
With the Internet of Things market growing, wearables are in this holiday season. InformationWeek spotlights a dozen fitness trackers that can make great gifts.
NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Are the loved ones in your life in need of losing a few pounds? Do they need something different to motivate them at the gym?
Right now, fitness trackers, such as the Fitbit Charge and the Jawbone Up Move, are some of the most notable wearables available, and these devices act as a starting point for how consumers think about the Internet of Things - a growing market that has the potential to reach $33 billion by the end of the decade, according to one report.
This year, 10 percent of US consumers are expected to buy a fitness tracker during the holiday shopping season. Another 8 percent plan to purchase a smartwatch, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. This is even before the release of the high-end Apple Watch.
To help pick the best fitness tracker gifts, InformationWeek Editor Alison Diana has pulled together a list of a dozen different wearables designed to help motivate users in the gym after the holiday season has past.
In her report, Diana looks at several different models that range in price from a modest $12 for beginners to more than $500 for serious athletes. Diana also notes about these devices:
"Most fitness devices offer similar capabilities: They track steps, calories, and sleep. Some developers differentiate their devices through software, providing more in-depth analysis that could be helpful to athletes or users with chronic health conditions. Some products include a strap; others use clips that attach to belt loops, shoelaces, or purses. For fashion-minded users, some device makers offer an array of strap designs or color choices. Then there are devices that target athletes who prefer a specific activity, such as biking or swimming."
Diana also reminds potential buyers that it's important to know how the hardware interacts with the software, and how her 12 picks work with either Apple's iOS or Google's Android operating system.
Each week, InformationWeek explores those areas of technology that are changing our lives, and the way we do business. In addition, we welcome your comments and questions. If you have any experience with fitness trackers, wearables, or smartwatches, we want to hear from you. In the meantime, checkout the fitness tracker holiday guide here.

Altera FPGAs and IP with New Functional Safety Development Board and Reference Designs Reduce SIL 3 Development and Certification Costs for Industrial Designs
FPGA-based Functional Safety Boards and Reference Designs from NewTec Accelerate Time to Market for IEC 61508 Functional Safety Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif., and NUREMBERG, Germany, Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SPS IPC Drives --Altera Corporation (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced the availability of a functional safety development board and FPGA reference designs through NewTec, a leading European provider of safety-related electronic systems. The new board and reference designs coupled with Altera's TUV Rheinland-qualified FPGAs, tools, and IP, enable customers to accelerate development and certification of FPGA-based system designs. Altera is demonstrating this and other offerings at SPS IPC Drives 2014, from November 25-27 at the Altera stand # 270 in Hall 3. Altera's functional safety data package includes comprehensive device support, enhanced software design flows and IP for functional safety system design, allowing customers using Cyclone® FPGAs to reduce risks and cost-effectively meet safety-critical system requirements across product lines.
The functional safety board and accompanying reference designs are designed by Altera and NewTec to reduce customer design effort for safety designs requiring IEC 61508 certification up to SIL 3 (safety integrity level 3).
"Altera's TUV-qualified devices, tools and dedicated safety IP offer the development, certification and system cost reductions for differentiated functional safety system design required in this increasingly competitive market," said David Moore, director of the Industrial Business Unit, Altera. "The availability of functional safety reference designs and safety development board from NewTec in conjunction with our multi-generational functional safety data package offering helps our customers bring reliable functional safety solutions to market quickly while protecting their investments for the long term."
Functional Safety
Functional safety, defined as the part of a system's overall safety that depends on correct operation in response to inputs, is an important part of consumer confidence in a product. IEC 61508 certification ensures electrical, electronic or programmable electronic systems that carry out safety functions meet industry-standard safety guidelines, measured by the probability that a system or piece of equipment will fail under certain conditions. Altera's functional safety data package is certified up to SIL 3, which means that customers have access to Altera's latest devices and certified tools without requiring additional certification for safety-related designs.
Demonstration Uses "Light Curtain" to Stop Factory Equipment
At SPS Drives IPC, Altera, in conjunction with NewTec, is demonstrating how Cyclone V FPGAs with a 1oo2 SIL 3 architecture enables a safe stop in the form of a light-curtain that is attached to the functional safety board. When the light curtain is breached, for example by a human hand penetrating the light curtain, end equipment connected to the board stops in a fail-safe manner.
Altera Cyclone FPGAs and SoCs and MAX® FPGAs and CPLDs enable industrial solutions that include functional safety, industrial Ethernet, motion/motor control, human machine vision and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) by accelerating algorithms in the programmable logic device hardware and reducing your time to market.

Sonim Technologies(TM) To Use Indiegogo To Enter Active Sports Market; Limited-Edition Rugged XP7 Extreme(TM) Smartphone To Go On Sale Nov. 25
Sonim Leveraging New Route to Reach Consumers
SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sonim Technologies, Inc.(TM) today announced the start of the Limited Edition Sonim XP7 Extreme(TM) Android Smartphone crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The rewards-based program targets active-sports enthusiasts who need a smartphone that meets their demanding lifestyle and can stand up to the most rigorous conditions that they may encounter.
Sonim, best known for making the toughest mobile phones used by people who work in extreme environments, chose Indiegogo to reach the site's rapidly expanding consumer audience. With the start of the campaign, Sonim becomes the first established Android handset manufacturer to utilize Indiegogo versus more established and traditional routes to reach consumers.
"Over the last nine years, we have been building the most durable phones for our everyday heroes like police officers, firefighters and our nation's first responders," said Sonim CEO Bob Plaschke. "So when the outdoor community saw what our latest smartphone can do, they said, 'Hey, that's the perfect smartphone for our active lifestyles.'"
Created and built for the active sports participant who has suffered through broken phones, cracked screens and damaged keypads, the Sonim XP7 Extreme surpasses standard rugged-use certifications and is tested against Sonim's own rigorous Rugged Performance Standards (RPS). The XP7 Extreme's unique design protects devices from the challenges faced by participants of extreme and rough outdoor sports that often pose a challenge to other smartphones. The limited edition smartphone will be available to sports enthusiasts beginning Nov. 25 via Indiegogo.
The shock-resistant smartphone meets the toughest military-grade certifications, and is constructed to be both submersible in water and drop resistant, meeting IP68 and IP69 standards. Built to withstand high drops on hard surfaces such as concrete, it can survive extreme cold temperatures that mountain climbers and snow sports enthusiasts face, or take the heat and humidity that lovers of water sports crave. The XP7 Extreme can withstand the crushing force of a ton of metric pressure, as well. Produced for use in the outdoors, the touch-screen display can be viewed clearly in direct sunlight and is usable with the gloves often worn by active sports participants.
Featuring advanced audio capabilities, the XP7 Extreme includes an extra loud 103dB front-facing speaker and noise-cancelling microphone, making it the best choice for active-sports participants. Its extra-long-life battery offers up to 1,000 hours of standby time and 40 hours of talk time. And, since even the most rugged phones occasionally break, Sonim backs the device with a three-year, comprehensive warranty for damage to the smartphone caused by extreme use, but not abuse.
"Snow or surf, off-road racing or hiking, the new Limited Edition XP7 Extreme is the ideal smartphone for those who pursue and take part in adventurous outdoor sports," added Plaschke. "With the XP7 Extreme, those who want to take photos, videos and stay connected will find they no longer have to worry about breaking their phones, shattering screens or have them end up all wet as the Sonim devices stand up to the toughest conditions."
Sonim chose Indiegogo to enter the active-sports market with the customized XP7 Extreme on the basis of its track record and consumer-demographic consisting of people who look to buy products not yet available through more established, traditional channels.
"We looked at the various platforms out there and considered various business strategies to break into the active-sports, heavy-consumer market," Plaschke said. Exinda Announces Key Enhancements to its WAN Orchestration Solution
Latest version of Exinda Network Orchestrator adds adaptive response quotas, HTTPS caching and integrated captive portal policies in response to increasingly dynamic user types and activities.
BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Exinda, a global provider of network orchestration solutions, today announced three feature enhancements to its industry-leading Exinda Network Orchestrator product. These enhancements are designed to help enterprises, education institutions and service providers gain better control over the increasingly diverse set of users, applications and activities on their networks.
Tweet this: @Exinda announces 3 feature enhancements to improve user and activity control on the network. #ExindaNetworkOrchestrator #WANOrchestration
The new feature enhancements enable organizations to more easily identify, segment and manage users on the network and apply policies to control how they can interact with applications and network resources. Gartner Research underscores the need for enhanced user and activity controls saying, "Traditional network design practices do not adequately support the modern user. These design practices need to move beyond connecting the dots and sizing bandwidth." [1]
The volume and complexity of users, applications and devices coming onto corporate and campus networks has created a need for more granular controls. Greg Veres, Vice President of Product Management at Exinda highlights, "As business offerings become more personalized, IT organizations need network solutions that proactively manage access to applications and network resources. Exinda's new product enhancements provide our customers with more granular control to enforce usage policies across user and application groups."
Exinda Network Orchestrator has been expanded to provide:
-- Integrated Captive Portal Policies: Allow companies to build and apply
quality of service (QoS) policies based on user attributes gathered from
a captive internet portal. This feature allows organizations to deliver
tiers of service based on user types, subscription levels or other
commercial attributes. Captive portals are commonly used in hotels,
airports and a variety of other businesses that need to control network
use at a granular level.
-- Adaptive Response Quotas: Allow service providers to define Internet
usage limits for users, groups and other network objects. The feature
makes it possible for companies to limit network access based on data
transfer volume and the amount of time a user is on the network. It can
also restrict access to a segment of the network based on subscription
attributes. Network Administrators can define specific actions that will
be taken when usage quotas are reached including throttling or blocking
data transfer, and redirecting users to a specific web page.
-- HTTPS Caching: Allows organizations to cache secure web traffic for
improved user experience for cloud applications. This enhancement to
Exinda's Edge Cache product caches encrypted HTTPS content which is now
the standard for sites like YouTube, Vimeo and many other commercial
sites. Most traditional caching solutions have not yet adapted to
support HTTPS which presents problems for companies in a variety of
industries.
The captive portal and quota enhancements to Exinda Network Orchestrator are available now. HTTPS Caching will be generally available December 1, 2014. Learn more about the solution at http://www.exinda.com/products/network-orchestrator/

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fulfilling a promise, Endomondo today announces that Pebble owners with Android smartphones can now connect their Pebble with the very popular Endomondo Sports Tracker app.
This new functionality from Endomondo allows users to start, pause or stop a workout from their Pebble while exercising. To connect with a Pebble watch, exercise enthusiasts must be using the most recent version of the free Endomondo app available at Google Play, and download Endomondo's Pebble app from the Pebble store.
The Endomondo Android app update also includes a new 'Challenge Your Friends' feature. On the go, users can now directly generate a unique fitness challenge and invite friends/family to participate in the activity. This new tool is an additional way Endomondo makes fitness fun so people are motivated to reach shared goals.
Mette Lykke, Endomondo's CEO, said she sees the latest round of updates for Android users as a clear indicator of Endomondo's goal to offer a connected experience across multiple wearable devices and platforms so fitness remains engaging and fun.
"As interest expands, Endomondo has been aggressively developing for wearable devices," Mette said. "Endomondo's aim is to utilize new technologies to support our core belief that social interaction and support are key motivators when it comes to people getting and staying fit."
