Proprietary technology takes smart-ball technology to the next level.
CHICAGO, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson announced today a strategic partnership with SportIQ to develop the next generation of connected products to help athletes play their best. These sensor-enabled products deliver data to smart phone or tablet for analysis and gamification, with the first release slated for the sport of basketball. The concept behind this product will be a paradigm shift in the way aspiring athletes practice and play, moving well beyond existing connected ball technology.
"We are not pursuing the launch of a digital basketball for the sake of launching a digital product. Wilson has a long history of true product innovation," said Alan Davenport, Global Director of Basketball for Wilson. "This intelligent basketball brings a unique approach to training through real-time statistic generation delivered to a smart device. The opportunities for individual and coach-directed training are truly unlimited."
Wilson partnered with SportIQ, a technology company based in Finland that specializes in artificial intelligence, to bring this product to market. The collaboration between SportIQ, which is focused on "making sport intelligent", and Wilson, with its unmatched knowledge in the sport of basketball, resulted in a truly amazing breakthrough.
"We literally taught the ball to differentiate between a made shot and a missed shot and we deliver this data to a smart device with no attachments to the rim, no additions of any kind; just a player and his ball getting better," stated Harri Hohteri, CEO of SportIQ. "During my career as a professional basketball player in Europe, I would have benefited greatly from this type of understanding around my training. What was my shooting percentage from different distance ranges or areas on the court? What did I need to be working on? We're now bringing our high basketball IQ to the field of digital technology to answer these questions."
The smart basketball launch marks a new emphasis from Wilson in the burgeoning area of data-driven sports performance. Vuzix and Vision Smarts release hands free barcode scanning application for M100 Smart Glasses
OXFORD, United Kingdom, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Vuzix Corporation (OTCQB: VUZI), a leading supplier of Video Eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets, and Vision Smarts, a Belgian company that develops, distributes, and supports software libraries for image recognition and real-time video analysis, today announced that a custom built version of the 'pic2shop' application has been created specifically for use with the M100 Smart Glasses.
Designed for scanning QR codes, EAN and UPC barcodes, the customised M100 version now enables complete hands free scanning, providing users with real time data including product names, images and potentially vital shopping information when connected to the internet via the M100 through Wi-Fi link or tethered to a smartphone.
According to Econsultancy.com, 3.3 million UK consumers scanned a QR code in Q2 2012 or about 11.4% of the total smartphone audience. This makes the 'pic2shop' a perfect application for Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses users.
Using a combination of user interface modifications and algorithms Vision Smarts created a 'pic2shop' version that maximizes the use of the application by M100 wearers, these included:
-- Adding a zoom function- users can correctly position the barcode in the
line of sight of the M100 camera. Meaning the software application can
focus more on the barcode that any other surrounding image.
-- Using a Scan line - users see a red line across the barcode - similar to
that of a barcode reading sensor on a purchase point. Again providing
more accuracy to the code reader
-- Specialised algorithms - enabling users to scan 3cm-wide UPC's or
2cm-wide QR codes up to 50 cm away. N.B. The distance depends on the
physical size of the codes. Larger codes will be readable from further
away.
The newly modified version of 'pic2shop' removes the need to hold a smartphone close to a barcode. The embedded camera, coupled with the new zoom feature now enables the user to read UPC and EAN codes from a distance of up to 50cm away, meaning they can naturally browse 'on the shelf' barcodes, billboard QR codes and much more for warehousing to the average consumer.
Benoit Mason, Managing Director of Vision Smarts said, "The M100 Smart Glasses from Vuzix is the ideal device for pic2shop and our barcode reader SDK. The adjustments within the customised version take our application to a complete hands free level, meaning that it becomes a more useable application across multiple industries, such as librarians logging new books, product information researchers, warehousing and more. We're confident that we can continue to add in further features to enhance work place efficiency and user benefits.
Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix said, "The customized pic2shop application works perfectly with our M100 device. The adjustments that Vision Smarts have added have been developed following some extensive research into how the wearer of the M100 would use the device alongside the 'pic2shop' application in a natural manner. This is just one of the many forthcoming applications specifically developed for the M100 device and we look forward to announcing a 'bank' of useable applications for our users."
More information about the M100 device can be found at http://www.vuzix.com and those wishing to use the 'pic2shop' application with an M100 device can download the application package (apk) here, and SDK information for developers is available here.

Delta flight attendants to switch to phablet for in-flight customer service, manuals
Devices provide platform for more personalized in-flight customer service
ATLANTA, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) this fall will equip more than 20,000 flight attendants with handheld Nokia Lumia 1520 phablets, which will serve as their on-board manual and in-flight sales device as well as a platform for future, more personalized in-flight customer service. The Lumia 1520 features a larger format, 6-inch screen and will replace the smaller Lumia 820 already in the hands of Delta on-board professionals.
"Delta continues to invest in the latest tools and resources for our flight attendants to provide exceptional service to our 165 million annual customers," said Joanne Smith, senior vice president - In-Flight Service. "These state-of-the-art devices represent yet another example of the many technology innovations we're developing, and will be essential as Delta continues to further personalize the on board experience."
Providing electronic access to the more than 500 page, five pound On-Board Manual carried by every flight attendant is expected to save more than $1 million annually in reduced fuel and printing costs while providing on board professionals a more intuitive way to access essential information.
In addition to its functionality as an in-flight sales device and replacement for the on-board manual, the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet, running Windows Phone 8.1, will, as it develops, enable flight attendants to take customer meal orders, receive detailed information about their flight and provide information for personalized service, including customers' frequent flyer status and potential need for special services during flight.
"The phablet is a great foundation for future software applications that, in time, will allow our flight attendants to readily access customer preferences, previous travel experiences with Delta and worldwide connectivity to the company, enabling them to provide the more tailored experience many customers have come to expect," said Theresa Wise, senior vice president and chief information officer.
Devices will be distributed starting in October with all flight attendants receiving the device by the end of the year. The solution was developed jointly by Microsoft, Avanade, Nokia and AT&T and is the latest in a number of employee and customer-facing technology innovations Delta has made in recent years. Last September, Delta announced its pilots would receive Surface 2 tablets to be used initially as electronic flight bags and be developed into a multi-functional device that can be integrated across the airline operation.
Delta Air Lines serves nearly 165 million customers each year. This year, Delta was named the 2014 Airline of the Year by Air Transport World magazine and was named to FORTUNE magazine's top 50 Most Admired Companies in addition to being named the most admired airline for the third time in four years. With an industry-leading global network, Delta and the Delta Connection carriers offer service to 319 destinations in 57 countries on six continents. Headquartered in Atlanta, Delta employs nearly 80,000 employees worldwide and operates a mainline fleet of more than 700 aircraft. Real Threats in Real Time: Kaspersky Lab Launches Worldwide Interactive Cyberthreat Map
ABINGDON, England, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Kaspersky Lab has launched an interactive cyberthreat map
[http://cybermap.kaspersky.com ] that visualises cyber security incidents occurring
worldwide in real time. The types of threats displayed include malicious objects detected
during on-access and on-demand scans, email and web antivirus detections, as well as
objects identified by vulnerability and intrusion detection sub-systems.
In today's world of cyberthreats, it only takes a few minutes to spread new malicious
applications or spam. Kaspersky Lab's globally distributed cloud-based infrastructure -
Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) - helps Kaspersky Lab products receive information about
new suspicious files and other threats almost immediately after they appear. Internal KSN
mechanisms summarise the data sent automatically from thousands of protected devices whose
users consented to share information about any suspicious programs they encounter. After
comparing the behaviour of the file on different computers, checking it against a database
of hundreds of thousands of legitimate applications and using heuristic algorithms, the
system issues a preliminary verdict on whether or not the object is malicious. If it is
malicious, access to the object is promptly blocked for all other Kaspersky Lab users,
thus preventing an epidemic. KSN possesses the very latest information about security
incidents which is added to a map of the world in real time so that anyone can view the
wide variety of threats, and the speed at which they spread.
Users can rotate the globe and zoom in to any part of the world to get a closer look
at the local threat landscape. Different types of threats detected in real time are marked
with different colours. The user can bring a description of each threat up on the screen
or disable the display of threat types. In addition to share buttons for users of social
networking sites, there are buttons to switch: the background colour, the language
interface and the display mode (flat map or rotating globe). There is also a handy link to
check if a computer is infected with malicious software.
"Every day Kaspersky Lab handles more than 300,000 malicious objects. Three years ago
the figure was just 70,000 but antivirus technologies have also changed with the times and
we have no problem coping with this huge stream of traffic," commented Denis Zenkin, Head
of Corporate Communications at Kaspersky Lab. "Where do the attacks come from? Where do
users click on malicious links most often? Which types of malware are the most prevalent?
These are the sort of questions being asked by lots of users. Our new map of the
cyberworld threat landscape allows everyone to see the scale of cyber activity in real
time and to get a taste of what it feels like to be one of our experts."

Innovation Made in Austria: G-RIG, the Camera System Perfected by Two Austrians, is About to Conquer the World
VIENNA, Austria, April 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- The gyro-stabilized camera system has the potential to revolutionize the world of
filming due to its simplicity and ease of operation. After more than one year of intense
designing, the two Austrians Clemens Fischer and Wolfgang Vogel will exhibit their new
system at the NABSHOW trade fair in Las Vegas from 7 to 10 April.
G-RIG's novel camera system VALOS is a motor-operated 3-axis system that stabilizes
filming and substantially enhances hand-held camera shots. The new VALOS-system by and
large replaces the "Steadicam" known in the movie industry. A highly sensitive sensor
detects natural body movement. The movement information is quickly processed by a
microprocessor and passed on to the motors. These motors move the camera, which is mounted
on the system, equally into the opposite direction of the natural movement. This creates a
stable horizon, enabling smooth and steady motion pictures.
Flexible and simple handling for perfectly balanced filming.
The system is basically designed for movie cameras up to 6 kg. The architecture of
VALOS makes it independent from any kind of attachment to the floor, vehicles, persons or
other given options and still delivers perfect shooting results.
One big advantage is the unrestricted liberty of movement. Thus, e.g. tracking shots
from the floor to an overhead position can be performed. A single battery provides full
power supply to all the system's components. The "V-Mount Battery", which is included in
the delivery as "FUELUNIT", has proved itself in the practice of professional filming for
years. Furthermore, VALOS stands out due to its "Ready to Shoot"-concept. This means that
the operator can work with the system without purchasing any further products and start
after only a short training period - in contrast to the Steadicam. An app for iOS and
Android Devices is included and allows an easy configuration of the system software.
High-Tech: Action above water, on land and in the air
VALOS is splash-proof and can also be used in rainy conditions. The light weight and
slim construction make it very flexible in use. Therefore it is possible to shoot on, out
of or in vehicles without any additional mounting. The system also stabilizes filming from
aircrafts, e.g. helicopters. Of course, it can be used on in-line-skates or Segways as
well.
Two Austrian engineers.
Clemens Fischer (42), cinematographer and producer, and Wolfgang Vogel (40), engineer
and IT specialist, decided to create their own solution after an unsuccessful search for
such a camera system. Both of them have over 20 years' experience and the necessary
creativity. They have finished building VALOS after one year's work and it is now ready
for presentation at NABSHOW in Las Vegas.
VALOS will be ready for pre-order as from 7 April 2014 on http://www.g-rig.com for the
price of $11.900 (outside the EU, excluding VAT, custom duties and shipping costs),
EUR8.900 (inside the EU, excluding VAT and shipping costs). Upon request, VALOS may also
be tested.
Included in the delivery:
- FUELUNIT 75 battery
- FUELSTATION charging station
- Remote control for use by two persons
- Adjustable camera plate with rod mount
- VALOS rack
- Fixtures for other equipment

NAB Exhibition, Las Vegas: Going Global - VBOX HD Broadcast by Racelogic
LAS VEGAS, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Small, high-definition cameras are really useful. The fact that you can mount them in hard-to-film nooks and crannies and get a shot that would be impossible with a full-size unit makes such devices virtually essential, whether you're on a shoot with just a couple of crew members or the set of a full-scale movie.
Whilst this type of camera is hugely convenient, their CMOS rolling shutters capture video that suffers from wobble, skew, partial exposure, or smear, and usually means you only get a couple of seconds of usable footage. It is common to see a beautifully produced piece featuring high-dynamic action - from a car, a helicopter, or a jetski, where the really good, visceral, onboard shots only feature for split seconds before being cut away to an external view. In some environments rolling shutter artefacts don't merely degrade the video quality, they make it virtually unwatchable or strange, to the point where it becomes entirely useless.
Conversely, a global shutter will get over these problems by imprinting every pixel in the image simultaneously. But cameras that use global shutters have traditionally employed expensive CCD (charged couple device) sensors. So the rolling shutter has remained king in the action-filming arena, even with all its inherent problems. Until now.
Racelogic, the GPS data logging experts from the UK, has been supplying data-enhanced video loggers since 2007 and has become the market leader in the motorsport and vehicle testing arena. Recognising that new and existing customers want high definition footage but are unwilling to go down the standard rolling shutter route, it has now launched a CMOS based Global Shutter video system.
The VBOX HD consists of a very small bullet camera, connected to a remote recorder via a cable up to 5m long. It records 720p30 video to SD card or USB, has an HD-SDI output, inbuilt GPS engine, and the output can be graphically enhanced (with HD graphics) in post-processing via the included software. The recording unit weighs only 240g, making it extremely portable, and the fact that the bullet camera is barely any bigger than a tube of lipstick means it can be put to use not only in high-dynamic situations, but also in other sporting arenas where a small static camera is required (goal-posts on a football field for instance) which will capture fast-paced action without the inherent problems of a rolling shutter. Lens options are 60 degree, 133 degree, or CS Mount.
Diablo Technologies Demos Memory Channel Storage technology at High Performance Computing Linux for Wall Street Event
OTTAWA, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Diablo Technologies, a proven innovator in high-performance memory system interface products, today announced that it will be exhibiting its Memory Channel Storage(TM) (MCS(TM)) technology at the 2014 High Performance Computing (HPC) Linux for Wall Street event, April 7 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Diablo will feature landmark performance results on the AMPS messaging platform from 60East Technologies®, in booth No. 322.
Hardware acceleration is at the forefront of High-Frequency Trading (HFT), messaging platforms and other low latency workloads. In 2014, Wall Street increased their annual budget for cutting-edge HPC and datacenter technology by 7 percent, with the primary goal of minimizing end-to-end response times. Historically, the trade-off between storage bandwidth and latency has been the major performance-limiting factor for financial services applications. By leveraging Diablo's disruptive architectural innovation, MCS eliminates I/O bottlenecks and unleashes the full potential of flash storage - putting user data in motion.
Memory Channel Storage is an innovative storage architecture that enables non-volatile media to reside within the memory subsystem. By placing NAND flash into a highly-scalable DIMM form factor, MCS brings extreme I/O performance and ultra-low latency access to solid state storage. With MCS, mission-critical applications can benefit from consistent and deterministic response times, with as low as 5 microsecond (µs) write latency. Due to its distributed architecture, MCS provides an unmatched mixed-workload advantage, enabling new levels of real-time performance for next-generation datacenters in financial services.
"The ability to analyze and take action on high-velocity, large-scale data yields significant gains for enterprises across vertical industries," said Riccardo Badalone, CEO and Co-Founder of Diablo Technologies. "MCS is a disruptive technology platform capable of processing terabytes of financial data at near-DRAM speed, making it a 'no brainer' for low-latency deployments. We look forward to showcasing this game-changing architecture to the Wall Street IT community."

Maxthon Releases New Browser with C2Ray Game Engine
Console-Quality Games Now Available Through Web Browser; No Download Required
SAN FRANCISCO, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxthon, a global software company that develops state-of-the-art web browsers, today announced the release of a new Windows PC web browser that includes a high performance gaming engine. The new browser now offers console-quality games without requiring any additional downloads. A beta version of a games portal -- mxplay.net -- has also been released.
"This is the next step in our nascent games strategy," said Jeff Chen, Founder and CEO of Maxthon. "We're testing the waters right now with our first title, 'Original Blood'. But really, this is only the beginning of a Maxthon games service that includes country-specific games portals offering a range of casual to more immersive games."
Maxthon has partnered with the C2Ray gaming engine. The C2Ray engine offers true multi-platform, high performance MMORPG gaming, and a host of developer tools that simplify and democratize game development.
"We chose C2Ray as our first engine because it is architected and built to perform where the game industry is going -- online and available for multiple devices," said Karl Mattson, Vice President, Maxthon International. "Other game engines tend to be retro-fitted to work for online use -- which leaves a lot to be desired in terms of scalability and performance. C2Ray and Maxthon share similar DNA. Like our browsers, C2Ray was created and optimized for a world where users are playing online, on multiple devices and platforms."
Gamers interested in testing this new technology can go to mxplay.net and try out Maxthon's first title, 'Original Blood' -- a free-to-play 3D MMORPG where werewolves and vampires battle against humans.

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MBX Systems, a leading manufacturer of custom OEM server appliances and storage solutions, announced today that it has successfully utilized both standalone and embedded graphics processing units (GPUs) to lower the total cost of hardware ownership as well as increase performance for video and broadcast application providers that deploy their solutions on purpose-built servers. MBX's ability to properly specify GPU needs for each application has enabled customers to reduce thermal output, power requirements, overall system costs and even chassis size for easier deployment in end user environments.
One MBX hardware platform designed for a video streaming vendor yielded a 40% savings per unit by replacing a low-end add-in GPU with an integrated GPU/CPU solution that also simplified the design to improve reliability. Another platform engineered for a video analytics system reduced the size from a tower chassis to a smaller form factor and simultaneously reduced both the heat and power load.
GPU solutions used by MBX platform engineers include offerings from Intel, NVIDIA and AMD as well as integrated Supermicro GPU-optimized systems, depending on the needs of the specific video application. Supermicro's 1027GR-T Series GPU SuperServer, for example, incorporates three double-wide GPUs in a 1U form factor providing processing power that would ordinarily require a 3U footprint.
"GPUs enable video applications to work smarter because of their massively parallel processing capabilities, yet few vendors are currently taking full advantage of GPU technology because of the need for expertise to rewrite and optimize their code. That's a short-sighted view that can unnecessarily increase system costs for comparable performance and also weaken competitive advantage," said Jeff Luckett, MBX Director of Engineering. "For many applications, moving to smarter GPU-based computation methods can avoid upgrading to a high-end CPU that costs more and lacks the power, thermal, space, cost and flexibility benefits of today's off-the-shelf GPU solutions."
In addition to engineering design and manufacturing of fully customized hardware platforms that optimize the performance of the customer's software, MBX offers value-added services including software imaging, custom BIOS loading, custom branding, drop-shipping to end customers, international logistics, and inventory management. Systems are manufactured exclusively in the U.S. and supported globally.
MBX is exhibiting in Booth #SL14616 (South Hall, Lower) at the 2014 NAB Show that opens next Monday at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
About MBX Systems
MBX Systems is a leading designer and manufacturer of application-optimized server appliances and cloud-ready solutions for ISVs and service providers worldwide. BANGALORE, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

complete connectivity to the enterprise on their preferred gadget.

years. In addition, the app ecosystem is quite well developed for Android and Apple. There
are a lot of apps in the app store which people can use in day-to-day activities.
The enterprise space has not seen any breakthrough innovation in the mobility space.
In addition, there is no tablet or smartphone catering specifically to enterprise users.
Now, a new trend emerging which is 'Bring your own devices to office (BYOD)'. This trend
is important because consumers prefer to use their mobile gadgets while at work to improve
productivity.
Simply Office is a breakthrough innovation in the world of mobile apps. Simply Office
is an Android-based mobile application which provides enterprise users or office users a
productive environment for their smart devices that is fun and cool to use with an
intuitive and simple user interface.

as the application is under continuous development.
1. Seamless mobility of apps across various tablet profiles
2. Enables BYOD - Enables employees to carry their own mobile devices to office.
3. Enforces Security Policies - Allows enterprises to control apps that can be
installed on the user's enterprise profile, which allows greater control for the
enterprises.
A survey by networking equipment company Cisco last year showed that 72% of Indian
companies expected the share of employee-owned devices to increase in the next two years.
Globally, the figure was 63%.
Simply Office is co-founded by seasoned industry expert - Ms. Kusum Shukla. She has
developed this application by working closely with a bunch of technologists. She was
surprised to find close to 100 installs in a day in the same week of launch. She says,
"There are few players in the enterprise mobility space and the market has a lot of scope
for expansion and growth for an innovative application like Simply Office that eases the
pain points of an enterprise user."
The first version of the app was released at the end of July last year and future
versions of the app would include features such as connectivity to the enterprise
intranet. This would allow users to seamlessly access content from their enterprise on
their preferred device. Simply Office is also working to allow employees to connect better
with their colleagues at work by providing social network connectivity.
Another upcoming application from eSimply Office is Simply Voice which will be
launched by mid-April. Simply Voice is a best-in-class voice assistant that provides voice
interface for common tasks. Users can give voice commands to set alarm, open apps, compose
email, make calls, check calendar and browse the internet.
Simply Voice is extremely fast compared to some other apps in the same category like
Siri. The app can also work without internet for offline tasks. Simply Voice is a virtual
assistant, which takes more than twenty commands. Using Simply Voice, OEM can make a big
differentiator for their customers and end users can be several times more productive.
According to research firm Gartner, by 2017, as many as 25% of enterprises will have
an enterprise app store for managing corporate-sanctioned apps on mobile devices.
Enterprise app stores promise greater control over the apps used by employees, greater
control over software expenditures and greater negotiating leverage with app vendors, it
says.
eSimplyOffice is a start-up in the enterprise mobility space based in Bangalore.
eSimply Office was founded in the year 2013 by software industry professional Kusum Shukla
, who has teamed up with two friends and came up with a platform called 'Simply Office'
that gives individual's seamless access to all the official applications in a secure mode
on the handheld device.
Simply office is a breakthrough innovation in the world of mobile apps. It is an
Android based mobile application which provides enterprise users or office users a
productive environment for their smart devices that is fun and cool to use with an
intuitive and simple user interface.

Documentary Makers Pledge FREE Distribution to Schools... Can Manic Miner and Elite Inspire a New Golden Generation of UK Video Game Developers?
LONDON, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
- From Bedrooms To Billions available FREE to all UK schools from 2015
- Full length feature film financed entirely by crowd funding and pre-orders
- Pre-order limited edition before 31st May to get exclusive bonus material
- Find out more and watch the trailer at http://www.frombedroomstobillions.com
From Bedrooms To Billions is a new documentary movie by British film makers Nicola and
Anthony Caulfield. It tells the remarkable story of the UK video games industry, from its
humble beginnings in 1979 to its place in today's $93bn global business. Discover how
young, creative computer hobbyists and programmers found fame and fortune, made up the
rules as they went along, and had a blast doing it.
The film's co-director, Anthony Caulfield, commented: "Making From Bedrooms To
Billions has been a two-year labour of love and it's very nearly finished. The first
people to see it will be our incredible crowd funding backers and those who pre-ordered,
raising more than GBP100,000 for the film's production. Without them it simply wouldn't
have happened.
"While the film has strong nostalgic appeal, we were determined to look forward as
well as back. The way the UK somehow lost its way from the early golden era of development
and publishing is very sad. However, we firmly believe this will change and that many
great opportunities lie ahead, some of which we cover in the film.
"We hope From Bedrooms To Billions will serve as a catalyst for young IT enthusiasts
to push the boundaries of what is perceived possible, just as visionary game developers
did with the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 in the 1980s. That's why, once the film has
finished its cinema run, we're making it available to schools, colleges and universities
free of charge. It fits nicely with the community feel of the whole project."
The plan was announced at the recent Business and Universities Game Syndicate (BUGS)
launch at BAFTA in London. Co-founded by veteran games developer Jon Hare and Professor
Carsten Maple, BUGS aims to connect graduates and employers in order to reverse the UK
game industry's slide down the international pecking order.
This high profile event was attended by, among other senior figures, the Minister for
Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey, and Ian Livingstone CBE,
co-founder of Games Workshop and author of the NESTA report, who led the successful
campaign to put computing back on the national curriculum.
Professor Carsten Maple said: "To get the UK back into the top three games developers
in the world is a big challenge. We need to make sure we've got a good talent pool and
that we attract all kinds of students. From Bedrooms To Billions is going to be screened
at each of the universities and it will tell us all about how the industry has changed."
Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey, added: "We
are experiencing a creative industrial revolution and games are at the heart of it. We
want the industry to benefit from graduates who are coming out of university with the
right skills, which means they hit the ground running."
Last chance tobe an official From Bedrooms To Billions backer!
Anyone contributing to the project by pre-ordering before 31st May gets instant access
to the Backer's Zone at http://www.frombedroomstobillions.com
- The limited edition Blu-ray, DVD or Digital Version comes with a strictly
one-print-run-only cover designed by legendary video game artist Oliver Frey
- Pre-order the film to immediately download a clip bundle including Matthew
Smith on Manic Miner and David Braben on Elite
- Pre-order the soundtrack to get new material by 80s game music superstars Rob
Hubbard and Ben Daglish
From Bedrooms To Billions co-director, Nicola Caulfield, said: "This film is a great
piece of nostalgic entertainment. It celebrates a landmark period in the history of
British invention and documents the growth of gaming from a so-called niche hobby into the
vast, worldwide industry it is today. We've got great interviews with some of the UK's
most successful game designers, publishers, musicians and journalists. Frankly, it's about
time this amazing story was told, and we very much hope it will also act as an
inspirational learning tool to get more young people enjoying programming, IT and making
video games again.
"The film is almost done and 31st May is the cut-off point for pre-ordering the
exclusive 'Backers Edition'. As a thank you to our fantastic crowd funders we've put
together some really special extras that will never be available again. The limited
edition contains an additional 2.5 hours of footage on top of the two-hour movie. It
represents easily the most comprehensive visual record of the UK gaming story, and might
just become highly collectable."
Notes To Editors
From Bedrooms To Billions is produced by Gracious Films Ltd ( http://www.graciousfilms.com), a London-based company owned and run by writing,
producing and directing team Nicola Caulfield & Anthony Caulfield.
With a string of hits to their name, Nicola & Anthony's career highlights include
working with Pink Floyd to produce a chart-topping TV version of Dark Side of the Moon,
making a Doctor Who documentary for the BBC, and releasing their first feature film,
Immodesty Blaize - Burlesque Undressed.
Passionate about the UK video games industry, they produced the official Sonic the
Hedgehog 20th anniversary documentary, Sonic - The Birth of an Icon, and Hitman - Burning
Hope, a fly-on-the-wall documentary covering the making of Hitman Absolution.
