Wowza and DivX Debut New DivX Live Streaming with HEVC Over MPEG-DASH
New Solution Designed to Deliver DivX HEVC for Live Streams with Maximum Bandwidth Efficiency
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- 2014 INTERNATIONAL CES -- Wowza® Media Systems, provider of Simply Powerful Streaming(TM) media server software, today announced it is collaborating with DivX to demonstrate real-time encoding and decoding of DivX Live streaming in up to HD 720p resolution using the HEVC/H.265 codec over MPEG-DASH. The newly unveiled solution is designed to enable broadcasters and content providers to take advantage of the new compression standard to deliver high-quality entertainment experiences at as little as half the bitrate of current H.264 technology.
The demonstration is powered by the latest MainConcept HEVC SDK, version 2.0, and is one of the first of its kind to enable live streaming for DivX-compatible HEVC/H.265 over MPEG-DASH. This new data-optimizing encoder SDK is being designed to allow broadcasters and content providers to cut their bandwidth requirements by up to half for current HD streams, while still delivering the same quality viewers expect from 720p or 1080p.
