Radware's joint solution with VMware, an enhanced version of its
Radware's vDirect(TM)
plug-in, interoperates with VMware vSphere(R) to enable services
provisioning with VMware vCloud Director, allowing VMware vApps users to
provision both application resources and a fully configured Radware virtual
application delivery controller (vADC). Users can utilize the vADC to
enforce VMware vCloud Director organization service level agreements (SLAs).
As a result, VMware vCloud Director users can align vADC provisioning with
tiered SLAs seamlessly and without any adjustment to the vApp.
Radware is providing a demo of the plug-in at its VMworld 2011 booth, #
659.
At the heart of the joint Radware and VMware solution is Radware's
ability to incorporate its vDirect plug-in, its Virtual Application Delivery
Infrastructure (VADI(TM)) and the full Radware application delivery
controller fabric (Radware ADC Fabric(TM)) with VMware vSphere to enable
VMware vCloud Director services. The combination will enable VMware vCloud
Director to automatically expand capacity for applications whenever it's
needed without users having to make adjustments manually.
By combining vDirect -- an ADC management plug-in -- with VMware vCloud
Director, IT managers can provision vApps while also provisioning virtual
application delivery services with the needed capacity according to the
VMware vCloud Director organization SLAs. As a result, vDirect now allows
VMware vCloud Director users to complete the transition of application silos
to fully virtualized application environment, where all layers of the
application are now virtualized as part of the same provisioning and
management paradigm.
"vDirect was specifically designed to provide automation and business
agility for VMware users who wish to apply their Radware application
delivery solution as part of their overall data center management systems."
said Eitan Bremler, Director of Product Marketing, Virtualization and Cloud
at Radware. "These new vDirect capabilities enable organizations to
seamlessly align vADC provisioning with tighter integration in the VMware
vSphere(R) environment, hence alleviating the need to make adjustments to
the vApp in the VMware vCloud Director model," Bremler said.
Additional benefits of the joint solution include:
- Enhanced tiered services model -Radware's vADCs are
available in a variety of form factors and deployment models to fit any
VMware vCloud Director organization SLA. This allows users to provision
the same vApp in different organizations, and automatically assign the
correct vADC to the vApp according to the organization's SLA.
- Streamlined provisioning of application delivery services -
IT managers will save time, have fewer steps and simplify the way they
interoperate, define, and consume a new virtual application, which also
includes an application delivery service.
- Maximum agility, efficiency, and business continuity
-Packaging a vADC as part of a vApp helps bridge the gap between the
virtual application and the network. This ensures each virtual
application receives the correct application delivery service per SLA,
and in case an application is migrated between organizations, ensures
the vADC is migrated with it.
"Radware vDirect integrates with VMware vSphere(R) to provide customers
a transparent and seamless way to align Radware's ADC fabric with VMware
vCloud(R) Director," said Dan Chu, Vice President, Cloud Infrastructure and
Services, VMware. "VMware vCloud Director end users - especially those
incorporating a -cloud and IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS) strategy - will benefit
from vDirect as they can use the solution to accelerate the delivery and
consumption of virtual IT services and deploy workloads on shared
infrastructure with maximum agility."
Radware's vDirect plug-in consists of a library of work flows for
creating services and new vADC instances so customers won't have to. A key
component of Radware's VADI strategy, vDirect is designed to complement
virtualized environments using VMware cloud infrastructure and management
solutions, by delivering ADC services as part of the virtualized data center
and cloud. Radware VADI enables the consolidation and virtualization of
application delivery services as an integral part of VMware orchestration
and provisioning systems, resulting in savings in reduced operation and
capital expenses, increased resilience, and enhanced business agility.
Availability of the vDirect plug-in is scheduled for the fourth quarter
2011. For more information, visit Radware at: http://www.radware.com.

Koopik Now Offering Daily Deals on Its New Website
The website supplies consumers with exclusive deals on a daily basis
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Koopik, a website dedicated to providing consumers with daily deals, has now launched in North America. The website combines all the offers in each city on one website, which eliminates the need to comb through emails and the web to save money. The deals can save consumers anywhere between 50-95% on items or events.
"Koopik is the new Google for daily deal offers. We are excited to launch this website, which can save valuable time and money for any person looking for exclusive online deals," says Rupi Randhawa, Director of Marketing.
The concept is simple: consumers can sign up to receive one email a day, which lists all the offers from other daily deal sites. Koopik categorizes the coupons so that only the relevant deals are filtered through. Not only does the website sift through deals from the larger, well-known sites like Groupon & Living Social, but also from the local, homegrown deal sites that often offer phenomenal savings from the mom'n'pop shops in the region. Koopik gives a whole new meaning to the "buy local" movement that is gathering steam across North America.
"We understand that a young female who enjoys fashion wants a different deal than a male who enjoys sports. Koopik takes the work out of finding the right deal for you; we suggest the best deals for you based on your preferences," says Randhawa.
About Koopik:
Koopik collects daily deals from the best daily deal sites and then suggests deals for consumers based on their personal preferences. They collect deals from sites such as Groupon, Living Social, Tippr, and more etc. Subscribers tell Koopik their preferred deals by category, location and discount.
Group buying provides the consumer the ability to get great deals on everything they like to do with friends, such as going to restaurants, bars, spas and more. The daily deal industry is growing fast, but visiting multiple sites and receiving countless emails from these deal sites adds unnecessary clutter to life. Koopik believes that a good deal is a good deal, regardless of the site it's from. Koopik puts all the deals for consumers in one place.
Nirvanix Offers Cloud Storage Customers Impacted by Hurricane Irene Option to Move Data to Other Locations for Free
Customers Using Nirvanix's New Jersey Data Center Can Opt to Move Data Across the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Network to the West Coast, Europe or Asia for Increased Data Protection
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the unprecedented mandatory evacuations in New York City and the Eastern Seaboard due to the impending impact of Hurricane Irene, Nirvanix, the leading provider of enterprise-class cloud storage services, today announced a new program that enables its customers currently storing data in its Node 4 data center in New Jersey with the option of moving their data to other locations in the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Network--either on a temporary or full-time basis--free of charge.
All Nirvanix carrier-class data centers are fully redundant, including diesel generator power backups and UPS to maintain full power at all times--even during rolling blackout periods--to ensure the company's data centers are running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
However, for those customers seeking extra peace of mind, Nirvanix is enabling customers to select where they would like their data to specifically reside, at no additional cost. Data relocation options outside of New Jersey include two data centers in the U.S. (Los Angeles & Dallas), one in Frankfurt, Germany and one in Tokyo, Japan.
"We are standing by ready to assist our customers as they face an unprecedented natural disaster which President Obama referred to as a 'historic hurricane'," said Scott Genereux, President & CEO of Nirvanix. "By storing their data in the Nirvanix cloud, customers benefit from the transparent movement of data from one region to another with no impact to their business operations. By making the shift from the physical machine to the virtual cloud, our customers have embraced a more agile and adaptable business continuity strategy."
"For years we've been talking about anticipatory staging of data around disasters and now the cloud is the ultimate realization of that," said David Vellante, President and Co-Founder of Wikibon.org, a leading IT think tank. "The Wikibon community continues to document the business importance of the cloud and in situations such as this, having access to multiple data centers to move your data around is critical. Without the cloud, a company with a single data center would need to buy the equivalent amount of storage capacity, networking gear, servers, replication and software licenses and find another data center to power up, cool, and move all their data to. Clearly at a moment's notice the cloud provides companies with levels of flexibility that they never had available with IT before."
Customers that would like to learn more about this program should contact Nirvanix at info@nirvanix.com.

Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner: Consumers - Be Prepared and Check Your Policy Before the Hurricane
New iPhone® and Android® Applications Help Consumers Track Their Belongings
HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Mike Consedine is asking consumers to prepare for the expected storm this weekend by readying your property, reading your insurance policy and creating an inventory of your belongings.
"With Hurricane Irene expected to hit this weekend, take this time to be proactive," said Consedine. "Homeowners and renters should make sure they have an accurate list of their belongings in case they are damaged or destroyed."
The inventory can be as simple as a hand written list, a video or something that could be captured on your cellular phone.
The new myHOME Scr.APP.book application, created by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), can photograph and capture images, descriptions, bar codes and serial numbers, and then stores them electronically for safekeeping. Information can be organized by room and the app creates a back-up file for email sharing. The myHOME Scr.APP.book application is available through iTunes® and the Android Marketplace by searching "NAIC" or "Scr.APP.book" at either site to download.
Consumers can view tutorials on how to use the myHOME Scr.APP.book applications by logging onto http://www.insurance.pa.gov and click on the myHome icon. A fact sheet on hurricane preparedness also is available for download.
Consedine also suggests consumers should:
-- Fix any loose shingles, downspouts or shutters
-- Be sure gutters are clean and free of debris
-- Secure lawn furniture and anything that could become airborne in high
winds
-- Tend to any other problems that may become worse with heavy rain.
Flooding is not covered in a standard homeowner's policy, but wind-related damage should be covered.
"If your property is significantly damaged this weekend, it's essential you contact your insurance company as soon as possible," Consedine said. "Insurance companies must respond in a timely manner to review the damage and provide the claim service you might need."
Consumers should be aware that multiple claims under their homeowner's policies could result in a rate increase. Consedine reminds homeowners they always have the option of taking care of minor repairs on their own without reporting the damage to the insurance company.
If your claim is denied, review the terms of your policy for what is or is not covered. You may also file an appeal to your insurance company's claim manager or contact the Insurance Department.
For more information on insurance, in general, call the department's toll-free, consumer hotline at (877) 881-6388, or the department's Bureau of Consumer Services' regional office in Harrisburg at (717) 787-2317.

(Nasdaq: INTU) today announced a strategic alliance to give all small businesses - from the sole proprietor to a medium-sized business - the ability to process credit card payments on smartphones and tablets. The companies are now offering Intuit's GoPayment app and pocket-sized credit card reader in Verizon Wireless' 2,300 retail stores and business-to-business sales channels.
GoPayment makes it easier and more affordable for small businesses to process credit cards and for anyone who sells products or services to accept credit card payments wirelessly. The card reader simply plugs into the audio jack of a supported smartphone or tablet. Credit and debit cards can be swiped through the card reader or entered into the app manually. The transaction is processed immediately and funds are automatically deposited into a user's bank account within a few business days. "Intuit's GoPayment on America's most reliable network is a mobile transaction game changer, and brings another dimension of must-have technology to the small business community," said Mike Schaefer, executive director of the Business Solutions Group for Verizon Wireless. "Payments and transactions are often the biggest hurdle businesses face. Our value proposition is to streamline, simplify and enable business owners to get paid with minimal delay. This collaboration with Intuit is an important part of our strategy to bring the most innovative online and mobile tools to our customers."
"Rather than lose out on potential business, anyone who sells a product or service can now easily and affordably give their customers the option of paying with plastic," said Chris Hylen, general manager of Intuit's Payment Solutions division. "GoPayment is meeting a huge need and is one of the fastest growing mobile payment solutions in the market. With Verizon Wireless, we'll help even more people discover that they too can process credit card payments on the phones or tablets they already own."
To save time when processing payments, GoPayment offers the ability to create and sell from a list of frequently sold items. Depending on the types of goods and services sold, users can choose to apply sales tax, add tips and send customized receipts via text message and email with a map of where the transaction took place. To protect data, sensitive credit card information is never stored on the phone. The data is also encrypted - once via the card reader and a second time via the GoPayment app.
For the more than four million small businesses that use QuickBooks®, GoPayment can also sync transactions with recent versions of QuickBooks - PC, Mac and soon QuickBooks Online - to save time by reducing manual data entry. GoPayment also supports up to 50 users on one account, which is ideal for businesses with multiple employees who work in the field.
Pricing
Verizon Wireless customers can get the GoPayment credit card reader free with activation of a GoPayment account and a mail-in rebate for the $29.97 purchase price. The GoPayment mobile payment app is free and the basic service has no monthly, transaction or cancellation fees, and offers a competitive 2.7 percent discount rate for swiped transactions.
A paid version of GoPayment is also available for $12.95 a month and provides a low discount rate of 1.7 percent for swiped transactions. Intuit is offering Verizon Wireless customers two months of free service when they select this monthly paid plan.
Customers who purchase a smartphone for their GoPayment use will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 for monthly access. Tablet and smartphone users require a data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.

In order to find him, players must use the newly found IDS Device to dynamically change the world to and from a variety of different dimensions to progress through the complicated Quadwrangle Manor. While on the journey, becoming adept at utilizing the various dimensions will help them trek from one bizarre and challenging room to the next. It might sound easy enough, but it is a tall order for a kid in a giant puzzle of a manor!
Penny Arcade Expo (PAX Prime) attendees will be the first to see Square Enix and Airtight Games globally reveal Quantum Conundrum through their exclusive panel. Meet the developers, including Creative Director Kim Swift (PORTAL, Left 4 Dead®, Left 4 Dead 2) and discipline representatives from the Quantum Conundrum team, and hear their explanation of how they are bringing an incredibly fascinating and unconventional game to life. The panel will be held on Saturday, August 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pegasus Room.
"We wanted to create a fun, quirky puzzle game that anyone would want to play, regardless of age or gaming experience," said Kim Swift, Creative Director at Airtight Games. "I've been working with an amazing and collaborative team on this project and look forward to coming into the office every day to hear new ideas, see what everyone has created, and dive in on my own pieces of the game. We've created something that we're all extremely proud of and hope that people will enjoy playing it as much as we are making it."
FEATURES
-- Engaging Puzzle Gameplay: Using the Inter-Dimensional Shift Device,
players will shift to and from various dimensions to manipulate the
world around them and clear levels with increasing degrees of
difficulty.
-- Experience New Dimensions: Each dimension the player gains access to
becomes a valuable asset to manipulate objects in the manor in a
specific way. For example, the Fluffy Dimension makes heavy objects ten
times lighter, enabling players to move what was once an immovable safe
from one place to the next.
-- Immersive, Interactive Environment: In addition to the various
dimensions allowing the player to learn new skills and techniques, the
look and feel of each dimension is completely distinct. When shifting to
the Fluffy Dimension, everything in the room becomes soft and plushy
like a cuddly version of its previous state. Every dimension carries its
own atmosphere, letting the player feel like they are truly in the
world.
-- Unique Art Style and Humor: The Professor's manor and all the items
within it have a unique style, but that's not all. Players should be on
the lookout for humorous touches and jokes scattered throughout the
manor home. Who wouldn't want to know what the infamous Professor
Quadwrangle looks like in the Fluffy Dimension?
"The team at Airtight Games is creating an engaging puzzle game complete with a charming story and witty, humorous touches throughout," said Mike Fischer, chief executive officer of Square Enix, Inc. "We're confident Quantum Conundrum will appeal to a broad audience and are thrilled to be part of the team that will bring this game to life."

Razer Unveils the World's First True Gaming Laptop
Razer launches the Razer Blade at PAX Prime featuring true portability, incredible performance, and a revolutionary user interface
SEATTLE, Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PAX Prime -- The PC industry today has never looked bleaker. The world's largest PC-maker Hewlett-Packard just announced their intention to explore the separation of its PC business. With PC manufacturers increasingly abandoning design and technology in lieu of outsourcing and cost-cutting, the PC industry has seen a severe dearth of innovation in recent years. Gaming consoles have also taken advantage of this innovation slump in the PC industry to garner attention from game developers and gamers alike, to the extent that now PC versions of cross-platform games are often sub-par ports of their console counterparts.
Razer, the world leader in high performance gaming hardware, introduces the Razer Blade -- a full aluminum chassis gaming laptop featuring true portability, incredible performance, and an all-new revolutionary user interface. With the introduction of the Razer Blade -- a feat of modern-day systems engineering and technology, Razer is reinvigorating technological and design innovation for the entire PC industry, and encouraging gamers and developers to return to the PC as the primary gaming platform of choice.
Mobile systems developed for gaming today compromise on portability and form factor for game performance. While such machines run games well, they are over 2 inches thick and can weigh more than 10lbs. The Razer Blade measures 0.88 inches thin, less than half that of current mobile gaming systems, and weighs only 6.97lbs, achieving a balance between portability and performance -- making it the world's first true gaming laptop.
Developed in partnership with Intel, the Razer Blade features a fast Intel® Core(TM) i7 processor and a high performance NVIDIA GeForce® graphics processor. The hardware was designed to run the most demanding games of today without sacrificing the laptop's portable form factor. The Razer Blade also does not compromise on screen size as it comes with an incredible LED-backlit high-definition 17" display.
The Razer Blade features the Switchblade User Interface -- Razer's multi-award winning, highly intuitive interface technology. The interface is comprised of 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys for easier access of in-game commands, and an LCD capable of two modes: one mode that displays in-game information when a mouse is in use; and another mode that functions as an ultra-sensitive, multi-touch panel designed for gaming on the go.
"The Razer Blade was designed to give gamers a laptop they could truly use on the go," said Min-Liang Tan, CEO and Creative Director, Razer. "Its sleek, lightweight aluminum construction makes it the thinnest 17-inch gaming laptop available today."
"We're proud to co-develop this revolutionary gaming laptop with Razer," said Mooly Eden, VP and General Manager of the PC Client Group, Intel. "Utilizing our fast Intel® Core(TM) i7 processor, the Razer Blade delivers top-class gaming performance in a portable form factor."
"Powered by an advanced NVIDIA GeForce® GPU with award winning NVIDIA® Optimus(TM) technology, the Razer Blade has the muscle to run cutting edge games with intense graphics while still offering amazing portability," said Rene Haas, General Manager of Notebook Products, NVIDIA.
"The Switchblade User Interface on the Razer Blade is a revolutionary innovation that truly defines the new standard for gaming experiences on a laptop," said Min-Liang Tan.
The Razer Blade is a 17" gaming laptop that delivers incredible performance and a revolutionary user interface in a sleek, portable form factor. It features a fast Intel® Core(TM) i7 processor and a high performance NVIDIA GeForce® graphics processor designed in a lightweight aluminum chassis. The revolutionary Switchblade User Interface, found next to a full-size keyboard, was designed from the ground up to enhance gaming experiences and provide more control at the gamer's fingertips. It features 10 adaptive tactile keys and a multi-touch LCD panel that can also display in-game information. And at just 0.88 inches thin and only weighing 6.97lbs, the Razer Blade is the world's first true gaming laptop.

Got Questions? New InboxQ Feature Helps You Find Folks on Twitter Who Have Answers
New Profile Pages Spotlight Twitter Users Who Have Demonstrated Knowledge and Willingness to Share it
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- InboxQ, a free web service that searches Twitter for real, "answerable questions", today released a new searchable index of Twitter users with specialized knowledge who are likely to share their expertise with others. "InboxQ Profiles" spotlight real people with expertise on specific topics from golf balls to restaurants, travel, and so on, as demonstrated in their tweets, and allows others to ask them questions directly through Twitter.
"There are tons of questions being asked by Tweeters, but we realized very few get helpful answers, or even a response," said Joe Fahrner, InboxQ Co-Founder and CEO. "When we launched InboxQ back in February, our platform enabled users to see a realtime stream of questions related to their business or area of expertise, allowing them to easily help others on Twitter. Now, with the addition of InboxQ Profile pages, the inverse is possible: those who have questions can easily search for the people who have the answers and are willing to share it. It's like a virtual Q&A search engine on Twitter."
InboxQ works by matching people with specific inquiries to experts who can help them. The company utilizes proprietary technology to analyze the profiles of millions of Twitter users, looking at what they talk about and share, to identify individuals who have specific, demonstrated knowledge. An InboxQ profile page is then automatically created for each of these knowledgeable individuals.
InboxQ Profiles are searchable: the user just types in the topic, keywords or question they want answered, and are instantly pointed to the real people on Twitter best suited to help them. InboxQ users can then submit their question to an individual right on his or her InboxQ Profile page, and it is directly transmitted to Twitter.
"We've found that everybody knows a lot about something, whether its cars or cooking or Caribbean vacations," said Fahrner, "and most people like to share what they know. InboxQ Profiles puts a spotlight on Twitterers who are demonstrating thought leadership, and lets them be recognized for their expertise. And, at the same time, folks who need information are able to seek it from a much wider collective than just those their own Twitter followers. We can point you to all the real people on Twitter who are sharing their knowledge, instead of celebrities or famous people who might have that knowledge but are never going to answer your question."
InboxQ was founded by Joe Fahrner and Jason Konrad in 2009 after realizing there were lots of questions being asked by people on Twitter, but few were receiving useful answers. In fact, most Tweeted questions go completely unanswered. We also saw that lots of businesses were having a hard time finding ways to engage with Twitter users. Most available solutions are limited to basic keyword searches which return lots of unrelated Tweets or false positives.
InboxQ solve both of these problems. We help increase the likelihood that askers will get great answers to their questions. At the same time, we alert businesses to compelling engagement opportunities where they can use their expertise to help solve a problem and potentially win new customers.
InboxQ is powered by a small, hyper-productive team based in San Francisco that likes to use really complex technology to build very simple products that solve real problems.

Smarter Electricity Portal Developed to Help Lower Energy Costs
DUBUQUE, Iowa, Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) and the City of Dubuque, Iowa today announced the availability of the Smarter Energy Cloud in Dubuque, Iowa. The cloud, or internet-based computing, will enable citizens to access information about their energy usage and habits and share best practices through an electricity portal/website over a six-month period. The electricity portal is now available to volunteer households in Dubuque.
This application is part of the Smarter Electricity Pilot Study in which data will be collected and analyzed over the next several months, providing these volunteer households with information, insights, and actionable intelligence to potentially lower their energy costs. Dubuque is the first city in Iowa where 1000 smart electricity meters have been installed at volunteer households.
The study's goal is to demonstrate how informed and engaged citizens can help themselves by saving money and conserving energy, making their community more sustainable. By providing citizens and city officials with an integrated view of energy consumption, the project will encourage informed changes in usage resulting in conservation and cost reduction.
The city is now expanding its portfolio of smarter sustainable offerings to its citizens. The study was a collaboration of IBM, the City of Dubuque, Alliant Energy - Interstate Power and Light, and the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. The study will run from July to November 2011 and initial study results will be available by December 2011.
As the City of Dubuque continues to enhance its integrated sustainability approach, IBM's technology will interface automated metering technology from Alliant Energy to monitor energy consumption data and provide near real-time visibility into the overall city energy consumption. To accomplish this, IBM has built the IBM Smarter City Sustainability Model, which is a cloud-delivered asset that provides the city with an integrated view of its water and energy management. This model provides a combination of deep analytics to generate personalized insights, social computing to allow volunteers to collaborate, and actionable intelligence that allows citizens interested in changing consumption patterns to understand the impact of their actions. This last aspect makes it a very powerful system to reinforce changes and sustain them in future.
"Based on the success of the Smarter Water Pilot Study completed earlier this year, we look forward to learning the insights the Smarter Electricity Study will offer our citizens and our city," said Dubuque Mayor Roy D. Buol. "Dubuque is honored to be IBM's partner in this research to create a model for communities across the country and around the world."
New technologies are capable of digitizing and connecting city systems, so they can sense, analyze and integrate data, and respond intelligently to the needs of citizens. IBM, together with the City of Dubuque and business partners, will revitalize the city's systems to become smarter and more efficient in order to meet the city's "Sustainable Dubuque" vision which integrates economic prosperity, social/cultural vibrancy, and environmental integrity.
The smarter electricity meter system will monitor energy consumption every 15 minutes and will collect and securely communicate anonymous data to the IBM Research Cloud. Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand. Organizations are looking to cloud computing to foster rapid innovation and decision making, for the agility needed to respond quickly in today's highly competitive environment, to reduce capital and operational costs, and an environment that scales easily to effectively meet customer needs. The data being collected will be anonymous and contain no confidential information. In the cloud, the data will be analyzed to trigger alerts and insights about ways of saving energy such as the amount of phantom loads which drain energy by being connected all the time. Volunteers can only view their own consumption habits while city management will be provided with aggregate data.
"One of many enhancements that automated meters provide is real-time data collection. With help, consumers can understand their usage patterns and make informed decisions on how to adjust those habits to save money and conserve resources," says Milind Naphade, Program Director, Smarter City Services Research. "Our energy portal has these unique personalized decision support capabilities based on advanced analytics and social computing. This portal can be used by any utility deploying smart meters."
This study comes on the heels of a similar study performed using smart water meters in 2010 which resulted in a 6.6% reduction in water consumption for pilot households that were empowered with consumption information provided by a smart water meter system.
In September 2009, IBM and Dubuque announced a collaboration aimed at making this community of 60,000 one of the first "smarter" sustainable cities in the U.S. Dubuque is recognized as a national leader in sustainability with its forward-thinking public policy and, together with IBM, will address the ever-increasing demands of cities to deliver vital services such as water management, energy and transportation, all while reducing the community's impact on the environment.
Additionally in 2009, IBM and leaders of Iowa's business and governmental communities opened an IBM technology services delivery center -- located in the historic Roshek Building in downtown Dubuque.

Panasonic Expands Popular LUMIX FZ Series With Premium 24x Super-Zoom, 3D Shooting Compact Digital Camera
New Panasonic LUMIX FZ150 Digital Camera Packs a Powerful 24x Optical Zoom in High-Quality 25mm Ultra Wide-Angle Leica Lens That Shoots Full HD Video
SECAUCUS, N.J., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic today introduces the newest addition to its super-zoom LUMIX FZ-Series digital cameras. The new LUMIX DMC-FZ150 is fully equipped with a 25mm ultra wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and a powerful 24x Optical Zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm) available for shooting both stills and videos. Additionally, the LUMIX FZ150 has two of Panasonic's newest features - newly advanced Nano Surface Coating technology which helps minimize light reflection that causes ghost and flare - and the new 3D Photo Mode.
As the top-end model of LUMIX's popular FZ series, the FZ150 combines a new 12.1-megapixel MOS sensor and the renowned Venus Engine giving the camera high-performance image recording capability in both higher light sensitivity and speed. And as a step-up from the recently announced LUMIX FZ47's 1920 x 1080 60i video feature, the FZ150 realizes 1920 x 1080 60p Full-HD AVCHD Progressive(*1) (MPEG-4 / H.264) format. It is also possible to take still images while recording video simultaneously (3.5-megapixel) and the powerful 24x optical zoom is available in video recording. The FZ150 incorporates a stereo zoom microphone with a Wind Cut function, so that videos come with high-quality stereo sound through Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator.
"Panasonic continues to strive to meet the photography demands of its consumers by providing unique features and advanced technology in all our LUMIX digital cameras," said Darin Pepple, Senior Product Manager, Imaging, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. "With the 24x Optical Zoom and 3D shooting capabilities the FZ150 is a versatile, powerful camera that gives users endless options to take creative and high-quality images and videos."
The Light Speed AF of approx. 0.1 sec never misses fleeting photo opportunities. To encourage step-up users to enjoy shooting even more, full manual control is available with the FZ150. Users can enjoy image shooting while expressing their intention not only in photos but also in video, utilizing a host of options including the new Creative Control and Photo Style with a wide variety of preset options. The effective hand-shake correction system POWER O.I.S. now gains Active mode, which helps to record stable video even if shot while walking.
The LUMIX's popular iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode powerfully assists in any shooting situations to get the best results. Thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology, Intelligent Zoom is available with the FZ150 extending the zoom ratio by approx. 1.3x, maintaining the picture quality while combining a digital zoom. This means the 24x optical zoom can virtually extend to a 32x equivalent. Not only drawing near the subject that is far away with its powerful optical zoom, the 25mm ultra wide angle lens captures approx. 196% wider angle of view compared with a standard 35mm camera. This is helpful for shooting dynamic landscape or indoor group portrait.
The popular iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode is also available in video recording. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), Face Detection, Intelligent Scene Selector and Intelligent D-range Control also support shooting beautiful videos with ease. The Intelligent Scene Selector automatically switches between Normal, Portrait, Macro, Scenery, and Low Light modes according to the situation, to optimize visual quality. The Intelligent D-range Control makes images look more natural by preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights to optimize the exposure for each part of an image. It also ensures a beautiful reproduction of gradation and details.
A new 12-Megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor pursuing Resolution, Sensitivity and Speed has been incorporated along with the renowned Venus Engine enabling the FZ150 to excel in image processing power. The combination of these powerful components results in the S/N ratio improvement by 3.9dB (ISO 100) to 4.7dB (ISO1600) compared with the predecessor - the FZ100. Newly developed Multi-process Noise Reduction applies optimum noise reduction according to the brightness of the part of the picture. Both high frequency noise that occurs in the dark part and low frequency noise in the light part are suppressed even in a picture. As a result, Images recorded in low-lit situations are now dramatically clear.
The Venus Engine has a quad-circuit system for processing large amount of progressive Full HD data at high speed. Not only 1920 x 1080 60p smooth Full-HD video recording, but also super fast consecutive shots at 12 fps (without auto focusing) and 5.5 fps (with auto focusing) in full resolution. It is also compatible with recording high-speed video at 220fps in QVGA. At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine, realizes a super-fast response time. The auto focus gains approx. 50% faster speed compared with the FZ100, achieving Light Speed AF of approx. 0.1 second. The speed in AF Tracking also becomes faster, thanks to the improved tracking performance which doubles its sampling frequency.
The FZ150 provides the new Creative Control mode with a selection of artistic effect modes; Expressive, Retro, High Key, Sepia, High Dynamic, Miniature Effect, Film Grain and Pin Hole. In addition, Photo Style is newly added to the FZ150 for the expression of finer nuance. It has Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait presets, while enabling finer adjustment of contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction by each.
As a further step-up from the FZ47, the FZ150 is equipped with a hot shoe allowing attachment of various accessories including an optional stereo microphone (DMW-MS1) or an optional external flash (DMW-FL220 / FL360 / FL500). The FZ150 is also compatible with an optional remote shutter (DMW-RSL1) for advanced expression in photography.
The newly-added 3D Photo mode takes 20 panning shots and then the camera automatically selects the two most suitable images - one for the right eye and one for the left eye - to synthesize a 3D composite. The 3D image can then be viewed on any VIERA 3D HDTV. The format of 3D images is compatible with MPO which can be played back on other MPO-compatible equipment.
Other features of the Panasonic LUMIX FZ150 include:
-- Motion Deblur Mode, which helps to prevent blur.
-- Intelligent Handheld Nightshot Mode, which generates beautiful night
scenery with illumination by layering multiple images shot
consecutively.
-- PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.5 BD Edition Software makes it possible to sort and
organize photos not only of those newly taken but also of those stored
on the PC with quick start-up and fast read-in of images. Recorded
videos can be edited with the Short Movie Story function and written
into MPEG2 to burn onto a Blu-ray or DVD disc.
The Panasonic LUMIX FZ150 will be available in black for a suggested retail price of $499.99, starting in late-September 2011. For more information on Panasonic LUMIX digital cameras, please visit http://www.panasonic.com/lumix.

Panasonic Announces Brand's First Digital Interchangeable Power Tele-Zoom Lens
Panasonic's New Premium LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm Lens Offers State-of-the-Art Design to Achieve Increased Functionality and Spectacular Image Quality
SECAUCUS, N.J., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Panasonic announced the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. (H-PS45175), the company's first cutting-edge digital interchangeable lens with electric-powered zoom operation. This marks the launch of the company's premium lens brand "X" which is compatible with the LUMIX G Series* and complies with the Micro Four Thirds(TM) system standard. This lens introduction accompanies another LUMIX X lens announced today, the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./ POWER O.I.S.
The new LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. lens features superb image rendering for lifelike textures and crisp, edge-to-edge contrast. A unique Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes reflections at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) for a dramatic reduction of ghosts and light flare, resulting in outstandingly clear picture quality.
Using a Multi-Actuator Floating Inner Focus System to control three lens groups separately the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. achieves a reduction in both size and weight without compromising picture quality. Boasting outstanding compactness, the lens is approximately 90mm in length and 7.4oz in weight, resulting in ultra-high mobility.
Offering a versatile zoom range of 45-175mm the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. allows distant subjects to be captured sharply at the tele-end. Also notable, the lens is extremely suitable for portrait and landscape shots, as its high contrast and resolution helps images shot at the wide end maintain exceptional quality, and the zoom lever allows for quick and stable zooming, even while shooting a moving object.
The new lens system features two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lenses which suppress chromatic aberration and contribute to high descriptive performance across the entire zoom range 45-175mm. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) integrated into the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. makes it easy to shoot sharp images even in low-lit situations. With improved sensitivity of the gyro sensor, the new POWER O.I.S. also suppresses large, slow movements two times more effectively while small, fast movements are compensated for by the conventional MEGA O.I.S.
LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. contains seven aperture blades to help produce an attractive smoothness in out-of-focus areas even while shooting at large aperture. Adopting an inner focus system driven by a stepping motor, the lens' superior optical design supports Light Speed AF of approximately .15 seconds and fast aperture control results in a shortened shutter time lag of approximately 20% when compared to the LUMIX G VARIO 45-200mm/F4.0-5.6/MEGA O.I.S.
The Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. (H-PS45175) will be available in black and silver starting September 2011 with a suggested retail price of $449.99. Panasonic Announces Firmware Updates for Its Popular LUMIX DMC-LX5 Digital Camera
SECAUCUS, N.J., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic today announced new firmware updates for the LUMIX DMC-LX5 digital camera. The version 2.0 firmware, available on September 13, will help to improve performance and enhance usability by upgrading key camera functions.
Software updates include a redesigned algorithm which will speed up autofocus time, giving the LUMIX LX5 extremely fast AF speeds. The High ISO Noise Reduction Mode is a new feature that will offer deliberate noise reduction for images shot at high ISO 1600/3200 sensitivity. There will also be a significant improvement of the performance of auto white balance adjustment in low light situations.
For functional upgrades, the LUMIX LX5 Active Mode will be integrated into the effective hand-shake correction system POWER O.I.S., helping users shoot more stable video even while walking. Expanding on the My Color Mode settings, the popular Miniature Effect Mode will provide the ability for a user to focus on an object and blur surroundings; a technique that can be applied in both photo and video. Also, the conventional 60-second shutter speed limit will be extended to the max 250 seconds, which will assist in shooting illuminated night sky and darkened scenery.
Additional enhancements include improved shutter operation to incorporate continuous focusing with half-shutter and full-shutter shooting. Using both autofocus and manual focus will be made even easier in situations where focus precision is desired. For instance, once a focus area has been set it can easily be retrieved, making this a convenient function for tripod shooting. Finally, the brightness, contrast/saturation and red/blue tint of the LCD monitor and external viewfinder will be adjusted to reproduce color settings which are more true to the subject.
