DragonRAD Fires Up Cross-Platform Mobile Enterprise Application Development
Seregon simplifies and greatly reduces the time and cost of building and deploying mobile enterprise applications across multiple platforms
SAN FRANCISCO and OTTAWA, Ontario, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Seregon Solutions Inc., a provider of Mobile Enterprise Application Platform software, today announced the widespread availability of DragonRAD(TM), a cross-platform mobile development tool that accelerates mobile application development and simplifies integration with back-office systems to deliver enterprise applications across any BlackBerry®, Android, or Windows Mobile(TM) device.
DragonRAD 4.0 is an evolution of SeregonMAP that allows enterprise application developers to connect to any database or Web service, build mobile applications quickly and easily in a visual drag and drop development environment, and deploy them to a wide array of mobile devices and operating systems. With DragonRAD, enterprise application developers build complex mobile applications in a fraction of the time of traditional development, and deploy them -- royalty free -- to an unlimited number of users. DragonRAD's support for BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile devices allows organizations to build and deliver their enterprise applications on multiple platforms with no added cost or effort, currently one of the largest obstacles preventing businesses from going mobile.
CellTrak Technologies, Inc, a leading provider of integrated mobile solutions for home healthcare, turned to Seregon when a time-constrained opportunity arose to develop a complex application for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices. "CellTrak has more than 10,000 users of our industry leading mobile Home Heathcare solution", said Steve Wegner, chief technology officer at CellTrak. "Using Seregon's Mobile Application Platform (now called DragonRAD), we were able to rapidly create a prototype, and iteratively incorporate customer feedback until the application was complete. The Seregon Platform truly allows you to decrease cost, development time and risk in mobilizing enterprise applications."
DragonRAD's support for BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile devices allows organizations to build and deliver their enterprise applications on multiple platforms with no added cost or effort, currently one of the largest obstacles preventing businesses from going mobile.
A Frost & Sullivan survey of 300 North American companies revealed that issues surrounding upfront costs continue to be cited as the key barrier to adoption for mobile enterprise applications. The cost to build custom mobile applications that integrate with current back-office systems has traditionally been unaffordable for most companies. DragonRAD helps to reduce this upfront cost with its rapid application development environment, ease of integration and synchronization of backend systems, and cross-platform support. Other features of the DragonRAD mobile development platform include:
-- Cross-platform support for BlackBerry, Android, and Windows Mobile
devices
-- Easy-to-use drag and drop design environment
-- Seamless integration with all SQL databases and Web Services (using
custom data connectors)
-- Native rapid application development
-- One-button publish for over-the-air application delivery
-- Powerful data triggers, event handlers, and push notification
DragonRAD is available as a free download from http://www.dragonrad.com/download. The Free version is fully featured and allows the development and testing of an unlimited number of applications but is limited to deployment to only two users. The unrestricted Enterprise version is available on an annual subscription at $4,900 per developer and allows the development of an unlimited number of applications and deployment to an unlimited number of users. More pricing information can be found at http://www.dragonrad.com/pricing.
Seregon is exhibiting at CTIA Enterprise & Applications(TM) being held in San Francisco October 5 to 8, and will be at booth #146.

Carnegie Mellon Spinoff YinzCam To Help Steelers Football Nation Stay Connected
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnegie Mellon University's Priya Narasimhan is leading the technology game when it comes to creating new smart phone experiences for major sports teams.
Starting last Sunday, Oct. 3, the Pittsburgh Steelers launched a mobile application for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry smart phone platforms developed by Narasimhan's spinoff company YinzCam, Inc. This groundbreaking mobile application will cater to Steelers fans both inside and outside the stadium.
"The technology provides instant action and real-time action replays from any of four unique camera angles at Heinz Field during a Steelers game, including the NFL's Red Zone Channel," said Narasimhan, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon and YinzCam, Inc.'s founder.
Narasimhan, who developed the idea of YinzCam after teaching a novel sports technology class at Carnegie Mellon, predicted that the NFL's use of technology will continue to benefit the game and its fans. For more than two years, YinzCam, Inc. has focused on mobile live streaming and experiential technologies for live events.
"Because football is a game of inches, it is extremely important that fans get instant visualization of the entire game, and can stay in touch with the real-time game action, anytime, anywhere," said Narasimhan, an avid Steelers fan. "The new technology also gives Steelers fans access to player bios, a depth chart and real-time stats, player by player, drive by drive," she said.
Essentially, YinzCam enables fans at a Steelers home game to experience live video streams from novel camera angles using their Wi-Fi enabled smartphones. Fans also can obtain instant replays for all the game highlights on their smart phones.
YinzCam is being launched for other NFL teams, including the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers, and also for NHL teams, including the Pittsburgh Penguins.
CMU faculty member Rajeev Gandhi is involved with YinzCam, along with CMU alumni Justin Beaver, Nathan Mickulicz, Jeremy Kanter, Max Salley, Brian Finamore, Hao Su, Paul Rubritz and Lou Biancaniello.

Verizon Launches 4G LTE In 38 Major Metropolitan Areas by the End of the Year
4G LTE Network Also in Airports in Key Cities Outside of Initial Launch Area
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon underscored its rapid deployment of the world's first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network today from the CTIA Enterprise & Applications(TM) 2010 conference. Lowell McAdam, president and chief operating officer of Verizon, detailed the company's major network launch in 38 major metropolitan areas, covering more than 110 million Americans, by the end of the year. In addition, the company is launching 4G LTE in more than 60 commercial airports coast to coast - both the airports within the launch areas plus airports in other key cities.
McAdam said, "We are driven by the vision to provide ubiquitous wireless broadband connectivity and mobility to rural and urban Americans alike. With our initial 4G LTE launch, we will immediately reach more than one-third of all Americans where they live, right from the start. And, we will quickly introduce 4G LTE throughout the Verizon coverage area."
McAdam highlighted the metropolitan areas for the initial launch, which include:
-- Large sections of the Northeast Corridor, including Boston, New York,
Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. as well as Rochester, New
York
-- Throughout Miami and south Florida, Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston,
and New Orleans as well as Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville,
Tennessee
-- Chicagoland, St. Louis, the Twin Cities, Pittsburgh and major cities in
Ohio
-- Major population centers in California as well as Seattle, Phoenix,
Denver and Las Vegas
(A list of all metropolitan areas and airports is located at the end of the news release.)
Verizon Wireless is building its 4G LTE network with the same commitment to performance and reliability for which it has long been recognized. Verizon Wireless' laser focus on reliability is based on rigid engineering standards and a disciplined deployment approach year after year.
Enterprise users, businesses and individuals can immediately benefit from Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network this year. While Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network promises much more than speed, the first application gives employees the ability to work at significantly faster speeds and improved latency, increasing productivity and the opportunity to get work done where their business takes them.
McAdam continued, "Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network will also be available in the commercial airports in the 38 metropolitan areas, plus we're launching airports in other key cities coast to coast, giving road warriors added coverage when they travel. Every time we've built a next generation network, our customers have seen real benefits to their bottom lines. Taking advantage of the first large-scale LTE network on the globe gives our customers a competitive advantage."
Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE rollout positions the company to be the global leader in 4G LTE deployment. Verizon Wireless expects 4G LTE average data rates to be 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink in real-world, loaded network environments. These speeds are significantly faster than Verizon Wireless and other wireless providers' current or promised 3G network speeds.
By leveraging its 700 MHz spectrum for LTE deployment in the United States, Verizon Wireless is capable of quickly deploying a high-quality wireless broadband network with excellent coverage. The company is currently installing LTE equipment at existing cell sites and switching centers around the United States as part of its extensive, ongoing investment in its voice and data network infrastructure.
In addition to the 38 major metropolitan areas, Verizon Wireless is launching its 4G LTE network in West Lafayette, Ind., home of Purdue University. The public university is using several innovative software applications on Verizon Wireless' 3G network that improve student engagement and success, and Verizon Wireless is working with Purdue to explore the next phase of how 4G LTE technology can improve e-learning across the nation.

AT&T Expands Wireless Capacity in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties
Additional Spectrum Expected to Improve Connectivity and Performance of 3G Voice and Data Applications
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Oct. 6/PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today announced the completion of a key initiative in its ongoing efforts to enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its 3G mobile broadband network in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties in New York. As a result of the enhancement to more than 65 cell sites, local customers are expected to experience improved 3G wireless voice and data connectivity and performance, especially during peak hours.
The network enhancement adds new layers of frequency, also known as "carriers," to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase 3G capacity at local cell sites. The expansion helps manage ever-growing demand for mobile broadband services by allocating more network resources for AT&T's 3G network. This is part of a previously announced investment plan to enhance mobile broadband access in metro New York. "Delivering dependable wireless coverage for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected is our ultimate objective," said Hal Lenox, president, AT&T New York. "Our ongoing investments in this critical part of the state will help us ensure that our customers have access to the wireless services that help drive economic growth."
"We're working hard to ensure our customers have an extraordinary experience when they make a call, check e-mail, download a song or video, or surf the Internet on their AT&T device," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manager for AT&T in New York and New Jersey. "Adding capacity is just one way we are enhancing the network."
Wireless data traffic on the AT&T network has grown more than 5,000 percent over the past three years, largely due to the increasing popularity of advanced smartphones and the performance of AT&T's 3G network. AT&T has the fastest mobile broadband network in the nation.
The expansion of spectrum for 3G use is one of many ongoing network initiatives planned to enhance coverage and capacity across the country. AT&T recently upgraded 3G cell sites nationwide to High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2. Future plans include another upgrade to HSPA+ technology at the end of this year followed by the initial deployment next year of LTE, the next-generation of wireless technology. These advancements, when combined with an ongoing initiative to increase the number of high-speed backhaul connections to cell sites, are a part of AT&T's strategy to provide customers with an enhanced mobile broadband experience, both today and in the future.
AT&T's 3G mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the best international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 140 major cruise ships, as well as 3G services in more than 125 countries.
For more information about AT&T's 3G coverage in New York or anywhere in the United States, consumers can visit http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer. Using the online tool, AT&T customers can measure coverage quality of coverage from a street address, intersection, ZIP code or even a landmark.

Global Launch of SolutionAuctions.com - The Only Auction Marketplace to Post Problems and Sell Solutions
SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Starting with its launch October 6, SolutionAuctions.com is a new way to trade information. It's an online auction site that allows anyone to sell solutions or post a problem and take bids for the answer. SolutionAuctions.com is the only website of its kind who dares to offer 100% satisfaction guaranteed for all solutions. Every new solution is another opportunity for people to make money, using knowledge they already have - while really helping other people solve problems. As part of the launch, SolutionAuctions.com is offering cash awards for new solutions (up to $30 per article), referrals, and survey responses.
SolutionAuctions.com is an idea born of a problem. In 2007, founder Joey Liender spent hours online for several weeks sifting through conflicting information, and made three wasted trips to a dealer to try to enable Bluetooth in his car. The experience gave him an idea - why not develop a place where people can provide specific solutions to specific problems for money? Even better - a place where people can ask questions on any topic and get an answer, satisfaction guaranteed. His concept was like an eBay but for ideas.
Liender called in experts like industry-renowned Tim Ash of Site Tuners to create a site designed for the best user experience. After a total of 7260 hours of work, 26 months, 4000 bugs, and over 100 contractors in 11 countries, the site was ready.
The result is SolutionAuctions.com.
"We're in the business of connecting people's minds together," Liender explained. "We offer our users great opportunities to make money by helping others."
Sell Solutions: Make Money for What You Know
"Expert" is a flexible term. Liender values practical knowledge as much as credentials. "Everyone is an expert at something," Liender explains. Some people are experts through credentials (such as the FBI forensic analyst who posts solutions on computer problems). Other people are experts through practical knowledge (such as the grandmother with 26 grandchildren and a gift for dealing with toddlers). Liender has a system that makes it easy for experts to make money:
-- Sell solutions to daily life problems. Listing is free.
-- Profit from hours of web searching by turning it into a solution and
selling it.
-- Increase your returns by selling solutions multiple times with free
automated re-listings.
"Its fun," Liender said, "when someone is willing to pay you for something that you know."

AT&T to Offer First Carrier-Provided, Two Factor Encryption Service for Smartphones
AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice Service uses Powerful Combination of Hardware and Software to Enable Voice Calls with High-Level Security
DALLAS, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* today launched AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice, the first carrier-provided two factor encryption service, which provides high-level security features for calls on the AT&T wireless network. The service is targeted at government agencies, law enforcement organizations, financial services institutions and international businesses.
According to ABI Research, as smartphone distribution among the mobile business customer base increases, mobile phone security features will become more prominent, particularly among mid- and large-size company employees. Smartphone penetration among mobile business customers in the United States is expected to increase from about 28% to about 45% by 2014(1). And in a survey conducted by AT&T in June, three out of four executives are concerned about how the use of mobile networks/devices could potentially impact security.(2)
AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice combines KoolSpan's TrustChip® and SRA International's One Vault Voice(TM) into the first carrier-provided two-factor encryption solution. TrustChip is a fully hardened, self-contained crypto engine inserted into the smartphone's microSD slot. Embedded with AT&T TrustGroup, the KoolSpan TrustChip offers the strength of additional hardware authentication, enables encrypted calling interoperability with a defined group of other AT&T TrustGroup users and can be managed over-the-air.
SRA's One Vault Voice integrates the security functions of the TrustChip with a feature rich application that provides an intuitive user interface. This powerful combination allows users to easily place and receive encrypted calls by integrating with the mobile phone's standard operation and address book to provide a user friendly and seamless security option. This on-demand security function delivers mutual authentication and end-to-end encryption to enable a high-level security call mode.
"With the adoption of smartphone use in government and businesses, it's clear that the security ecosystem requires an approach that incorporates both wired and wireless," said Ed Amoroso, Chief Security Officer, AT&T. "We're continuously working to stay ahead of evolving technologies and threats, and have a specialized team within AT&T Labs that is dedicated to investigating security challenges in the wireless space. AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice is the product of such innovation."
"Year over year, the cost of compromised data and operational security threats has increased dramatically," said Pat Burke, SRA Senior Vice President of Offerings and Products. "These threats have elevated cyber security as a strategic priority for both business and government organizations worldwide."
"This solution was designed to address these very requirements," said Tony Fascenda, KoolSpan Chief Executive Officer. "We help resolve the privacy and national security concerns of our customers by using standard smartphones on public networks to create secure calls globally."
AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice supports BlackBerry® smartphones and Windows® Phones on the AT&T wireless network. Unlike other encrypted voice systems, AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice is not limited by availability of legacy Circuit Switched Data coverage and can operate in the over 190 countries globally where AT&T provides data roaming.
AT&T Encrypted Mobile Voice meets the government information classification standards for Controlled Unclassified Information, offering The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS - 140-2 validation.
Today, AT&T delivers some of the most powerful weapons to combat cybersecurity attacks. AT&T's network security solutions rely on three key ingredients: a scalable, reliable global IP network; security experts with in-depth, hands-on experience; and the innovation and research of AT&T Labs. AT&T delivers a suite of security and business continuity services to help assess vulnerabilities, protect infrastructure, detect attacks and respond to suspicious activities and events. More information on AT&T's managed security offerings can be found at AT&T Security & Business Continuity.

The Polaroid brand embodies a contagious spirit that's found at celebrations, gatherings and most importantly - in everyday life," said Scott W. Hardy, President, Polaroid. "For more than seven decades, people have drawn inspiration from Polaroid to enrich their worlds. The Made In Polaroid movement was created to embody this experience and give future generations tools to help spur the creative process."
In recognition of his contributions to the music industry, Polaroid has chosen to partner with Sting on his new CD/DVD, Live in Berlin, featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Steven Mercurio, to be released by Deutsche Grammophon/CherryTree Records on November 23. Culled from his critically acclaimed world tour, Symphonicity, this exclusive live CD/DVD compilation features many of his greatest hits, including "Roxanne," "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," "King Of Pain," "Fields Of Gold," and more, all re-imagined for symphonic arrangement. During his recent concert in Berlin, Sting gave Polaroid an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Symphonicity tour. A moment that defines the Made In Polaroid movement, a window into Sting's artistry can only be found on polaroid.com.
"As Polaroid evolves to bring its iconic instant products to a new generation, we draw inspiration from Sting and his Symphonicity tour," said Bobby Sager, Polaroid's Chairman of the Board. "Similar to Polaroid, Sting is a luminary who is continually re-imagining his work and building creative bridges and collaborations with different artists."
The new Made In Polaroid badge is fundamental to Polaroid's go-forward marketing efforts. The Made In Polaroid movement will debut on polaroid.com and includes:
-- Share Instantly: Polaroid Studio(TM) photo sharing link features
unlimited sharing and storage for photos and videos and visitors can
post and create personalized photo books, cards and gifts from their
images.
-- Experience: At polaroid.com, the Made In Polaroid movement draws
inspiration from stories of fellow artists' creative experiences,
including a behind-the-scenes look at the MIT creative session with Lady
Gaga, Polaroid's Creative Director and an exclusive interview with Sting
during his Symphonicity tour.
-- Collaborate: The Polaroid social media channels celebrate the
spontaneity at photography's core and provide a place to gather, rally
and share through the Made In Polaroid movement. Access the Polaroid
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube profiles at the new polaroid.com.
-- Shop: Polaroid is committed to freeing creativity through simple tools
and this extends to a new shopping experience at polaroid.com. Site
enhancements include a new browsing and purchasing experience for
Polaroid products.
Across several generations, people regard Polaroid as one of the most trusted, well-respected and recognizable brands when it comes to instant photography. The Polaroid story began more than 70 years ago with polarized sunglasses, which then evolved into instant film, cameras, and camera accessories, marking the beginning of the well recognized Polaroid Classic Border Logo. In recent years, the Polaroid brand has expanded into other consumer electronics categories such as flat panel televisions, portable DVD players, digital photo frames, digital HD camcorders, waterproof digital cameras and more. People can expect to see even more new Polaroid branded products that will deliver the fun, instant gratification and value for which the brand has long stood.

TrialPay Launches DealSpot to Bring Exclusive, Branded Deals to Social Apps
Social game monetization moves beyond the 'Offer Wall' with hypertargeted in-game promotions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TrialPay, the leading social monetization provider, today announced the launch of DealSpot(TM), a comprehensive promotion framework that delivers exclusive deals and branded engagements inside social applications. DealSpot leverages TrialPay's deep advertiser relationships and launches with an impressive roster of partners, including Groupon for local deals, LOVEFiLM for subscription entertainment, branded retailers such as Yves Rocher and Lancome for shopping, Rue La La and Mertado for flash sales and a host of video and brand engagements featuring companies such as Unilever, VH1 and Kia Motors.
In order to give publishers control over the deal context, TrialPay has pioneered an industry first: deals automatically appear in games via dynamically loaded Flash components that appear when relevant deals are available to consumers. There is also an API available for direct access to deals. DealSpot is the first platform to enable game developers to control how deals appear inside their applications, allowing these promotions to be fully integrated into the game experience.
Over the last six months, DealSpot has been running in private beta with some of the largest social game publishers through titles such as Playdom's Sorority Life, Playfish's Restaurant City and iWin's Family Feud.
"DealSpot allows our more than 50 million players worldwide to participate in an array of deals and brands without leaving the game," says Saby Agarwal, director of payments at Playfish. "The platform encourages players to return daily to check whether new deals are available, which means Playfish can increase engagement and loyalty."
Monetization of social games is still in its infancy, with only 1-3 percent of the 300 million social game players actually purchasing virtual goods. However, with DealSpot, publishers can now monetize users around virtual items and in-game events rather than hoping that players visit a separate payment page.
"We've seen a significant increase in user engagement and overall revenue from DealSpot," says David Cordis, Product Manager for iWin's Family Feud. "Our offer-based revenue has more than doubled on past DealSpot promotions, enabling us to convert more players into payers."
DealSpot can also be used to encourage deeper user engagement by providing special deals based on player performance. For example, iWin will use DealSpot to display special promotions to players who have reached certain levels in Family Feud.
"We are rolling out DealSpot not only as a way for all users to earn virtual currency, but also as a way to reward users who advance to higher levels in the game," says Cordis.
DealSpot also enables a more sophisticated approach to offering local deals. TrialPay matches the best local deal for a particular consumer and city from a wide range of deals sourced from group-buying companies such as Groupon, Tippr and LivingSocial. For example, social game publisher Playdom recently used DealSpot to promote the hugely successful Gap Groupon inside its Sorority Life game: players who purchased a Groupon for $25 off a $50 purchase at Gap also received Sorority Life Brownie Points.
TrialPay's extensive offer inventory ensures that social game publishers can always provide relevant options within their games in order to maximize conversion.
"DealSpot's in-game targeting and placement capabilities have dramatically boosted conversion rates and are strongly aligned with our strategy to increase customer engagement inside our games," says Cordis. "With DealSpot, we get access to TrialPay's strong pipeline of deals and promotions though a single integration. That's powerful."
About TrialPay:
TrialPay makes developers more money by presenting their online consumers with relevant promotions at every stage of the purchase process. TrialPay pioneered the transactional marketing model more than four years ago and has served over 70 million users and 10,000 merchants and publishers, including many of the world's most well-known software and casual and social gaming brands. TrialPay was recently granted three U.S. patents for its unique methods and systems for alternative payments. A vocal advocate for quality standards and transparency in the industry, TrialPay is the only independent monetization platform that has consistently upheld an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. Internet Society Launches Suite of Identity Management Tools
System enables users to track changes in online usage policies of the websites they visit
RESTON, Va., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Internet Society announced today the availability of an Identity Management (IdM) Policy Audit System, a suite of tools designed to give Internet users a clearer understanding of the online usage policies of the websites they visit.
"With the rapid growth of social networking and the associated identity and privacy issues, site usage policies are becoming more important and are ever-changing," said Lucy Lynch, Director of Trust and Identity Initiatives at the Internet Society. "We are pleased to have brought together a team of stakeholders to help restore users' confidence in the Internet by creating a trusted solution to help them manage the use of their personal data. With the right information and tools to navigate the complexity, the end user remains in control."
Website usage policies are generally long, confusing and can change frequently without any notification, making it extremely challenging for Internet users to keep track of changes in the terms of service (ToS) for the sites they visit. This is a particular issue when changes in the terms affect how personal data is used or shared. The IdM Policy Audit System addresses these issues and eases the process for users to help them find, understand and monitor the policies as they change.
By reducing the complexity of terms of service changes, users can more confidently and effectively manage their online identity and associated personal data.
The IdM Policy Audit System components include:
-- Policy Monitor - The mechanism tracking known website usage policies.
-- Policy Library - The repository of policy snapshots as they change over
time.
-- Policy Audit Client - A Firefox plugin that presents policy information
to the user.
In parallel, the source code, which will enable the creation of multiple other client applications, is being made available for download.
The Internet Society Policy Audit Plugin, created specifically for Firefox, is a working reference application that accesses the Policy Library and alerts users when they visit a website that publishes a policy that the Policy Monitor is tracking. The alert indicates whether the user has viewed the policy page(s) associated with the site and whether it has changed since the last time they viewed the page using the plugin. They are also presented with the ability to perform a "difference" comparison between the current version and the one they previously viewed, with any changes clearly highlighted.
Previewed at the Telecommunications Policy Research Conference (TPRC), the IdM Policy Audit System was created thanks to a collaboration between the Internet Society, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU), Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT), in a combined effort to address the need to develop solutions for these issues associated with site usage policies. The EFF was instrumental in developing the foundation for the Policy Monitor by contributing the code for their TOSBack website that tracks policies.
"A key issue facing people is the lack of transparency about the policies governing the use of online services," says Tim Jones, Activism and Technology Manager at the EFF. "While we work toward a more comprehensive technical solution, we need a way to help people today know what policies they're agreeing to. This is why we created the TOSBack service, and why we're interested in helping tools like the ISOC Policy Audit Plugin increase the visibility of policies everyone is supposed to be reading."
"The IdM Policy Audit System will make it far easier for users to recognize when a website they're browsing has recently changed its Terms of Service." says Cyrus Nemati, Web Producer for the CDT. "Even when users are concerned about ToS changes, they might not even know they've occurred - the Policy Audit Client fixes this problem."
The active Policy Library, complete system source code, and ISOC Policy Audit Plugin for Firefox are now publicly available for download and community collaboration:

Rapid Fire Marketing Gains Share of Electronic Cigarette Market
CARSON CITY, Nev., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Rapid Fire Marketing, (Pink Sheets: RFMK) announced the launch of http://www.BionicCigs.com, the premiere website for electronic cigarettes. The Company is focusing its online marketing efforts on this exciting new product that helps smokers wishing to quit and allows those who do smoke, to smoke anywhere they choose. The electronic cigarette market is estimated to be a $100 million dollar industry and presents an enormous opportunity for investors looking to be part of this fast growing sector.
Nicotine is a highly addictive drug. The reason it is so addictive is because it rewires your brain. A recent post puts it this way: "Once rewired, your brain feels bad without nicotine. This happens because nicotine mimics a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. To your neurons, nicotine looks like a surge of acetylcholine. This surge causes a release of dopamine, which is pleasant and feels good. Unfortunately, your brain also responds to the surge by changing the number of acetylcholine receptors and the amount of the neurotransmitter that it releases. When you stop smoking, the lack of nicotine causes an imbalance, and you feel bad, very bad, so you start smoking again. The only way to beat cigarettes is to cut your consumption of nicotine long enough to let your brain re-rewire itself back to normal."
Therefore, many smokers are looking for a different delivery system for the nicotine they need. They may be doing that simply to avoid the trip outdoors, or they might want to lower the cancer risk. They may even be trying to gain more control over nicotine intake so they can ramp it down to zero over time. There are currently several alternatives for nicotine delivery, including patches, gum, inhalers and even nicotine water, but many smokers are getting excited about the latest craze: electronic cigarettes. An electronic cigarette is an electronic device that delivers nicotine as a mist, without the harmful side effects associated with the other ingredients found in traditional cigarettes. Because no smoke is emitted, the user is free to use the product anywhere they choose.
"The Company has committed to focus its full attention on the marketing and sales of this unique product and has discontinued its marketing of other products that do not have the potential of Bionic electronic cigarettes," stated Michael Amezquita, President/ CEO.

INTERCIM Received a New Patent for a Non-statistical Approach for "Design of Experiments" and the Iterative Discovery of an Explanatory Model
Company Awarded Patent # 7,617,171 B2
ST. PAUL, Minnesota and PARIS, October 6, 2010/PRNewswire/ -- Intercim, LLC, a global leader in manufacturing operation
management (MOM) software, announced it has been awarded a patent called
"Process for the iterative construction of an explanatory model".
This patented process is a key component of the Intercim
Operations Intelligence technology and will help industrial manufacturers and
life sciences researchers in two ways: unlike a statistics-based approach, it
reuses existing information to optimize the length and cost of an experiment
plan and it gives a quick and effective way to confirm the reliability of a
discovery with only a few experiments.
This approach enables Pertinence Suite's users to get, much
faster, a more reliable explanatory model even with limited data points
available in a highly multi-dimensional non-euclidian space.
"This approach seems much easier to adopt than other standard
Design of Experiment techniques, because we can analyze simultaneously the
influence of many design parameters without statistical hypotheses. Thanks to
the Interactive Experiment Planning of Process Rule Discovery(TM), we have
reduced our need for physical experiments by 50% and sometimes more," says
Dominique Veret, former Head of Development at Siemens Automotive Hydraulics,
now Continental.
In the last 18 months, Intercim has received several
additional patents which validate the uniqueness of Intercim's logic-based
analytics for rule discovery and rule-based real-time predictions on complex
systems and industrial processes. The announcement of this latest patent
further demonstrates the unprecedented value proposition that Intercim offers
to the market in terms of Operations Intelligence. John Todd, Intercim's CEO
adds, "This patent confirms that Intercim truly offers a unique and high
value-add capability. This latest Patent award helps validate Intercim's
contribution to improved complex system understanding, manufacturing
productivity and cycle time optimization for our key markets: Aerospace &
Defense, Automotive and Life Sciences."
About Intercim
Intercim has a 27-year history of helping advanced and highly regulated
manufacturers reach their business goals through best in class software
solutions. Early 2009, Dassault Systemes a world leader Product Lifecycle
Management took a minority position in Intercim. For the first time, the
combination of Intercim's software capabilities with the virtual experience
provided by Dassault Systemes' solutions allows this type of mission-critical
collaboration and knowledge sharing. Intercim serves industry-leading
customers such as Boeing, EADS, Areva, Intel, Sanofi-Pasteur, BMW, and

EarthLink Demonstrates Comcast-NBCU Merger Will Increase Prices of Comcast's Broadband Service
ATLANTA, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- EarthLink, Inc. (Nasdaq: ELNK), one of the nation's leading Internet service providers, has presented an economic report to the Federal Communications Commission on the proposed merger of Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal. The findings demonstrate that control of NBC Universal's content and assets will result in Comcast raising the prices that consumers pay for standalone broadband service. This report was prepared by Professor Simon J. Wilkie, Former Chief Economist of the Federal Communications Commission, and is available at http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/view?id=7020915403.
The report shows that an increase in the price of standalone broadband service will harm consumers in several ways. In response to higher prices, existing subscribers may be forced to drop their broadband service subscription and new subscribers may not be able to afford Comcast's broadband service. Further, Comcast customers who wish to "cut the cord" from the higher-priced Comcast cable television subscription in order to access lower-cost online video and voice services via standalone broadband or simply "break the bundle" and subscribe only to broadband services will face increased charges. As a result, the market for innovative online video services will be stifled and the nation's goals of ubiquitous broadband adoption and usage will be dampened.
In June, EarthLink asked the FCC to deny the merger or adopt a condition requiring Comcast to offer wholesale standalone broadband access service to independent Internet service providers. Professor Wilkie determined that allowing consumers to have a choice for broadband services will allow consumers to "break the bundle," promote and discipline Comcast's pricing and protect the development of online video. This remedy will impose little or no costs on Comcast while at the same time generating significant benefits.
"Professor Wilkie has confirmed through substantial findings that the Comcast-NBCU transaction will result in a real and significant harm to consumers," said EarthLink General Counsel Samuel R. DeSimone, Jr. "The FCC must step in to ensure that consumers have access to affordable standalone broadband service."
About Prof. Simon J. Wilkie
Simon J. Wilkie serves as Chairman and Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California. He also serves as a co-director for the Center in Law, Economics, and Organization at the USC Law School. Prior to joining USC, he was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the California Institute of Technology and a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Communications Research. Professor Wilkie's research focuses on game theory, its application to business strategy, economic, and regulatory policy design, and the economics of the communications industries. His most recent research is on the wholesale telecommunications market, and the diversity concept in media markets. He was also formerly a faculty member of Columbia University, the University of Rochester, and served as Chief Economist at the Federal Communications Commission. Professor Wilkie is on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Economic Theory and the International Journal of Communication. His work has been widely published on subjects of spectrum auctions, game theory, and telecommunications regulations in leading scholarly journals, including: Economic Theory, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Regulatory Economics, Review of Economic Studies, and Social Choice and Welfare.
