You know Alpha right? The company that Compaq has bought out a long time ago? The company that the EV6 bus is made from? Ohh, you don't? Hmm, well, you should. Alpha has yet again made strides in super computing. That's right, we are surpasing the teraflops. Alpha is leading the pack (or is the whole thing). - The Inquirer

KT333 chipset review

Poster: DMIAD
Posted on February 20, 2002 at 10:42:34 AM
Anandtech posted a review of VIA KT333 chipset. To shortly sum up the review: Anand says that KT333 is a platform for future that can utilize potential with 166 FSB, at the moment KT333 is meant as a replacement for KT266A chipset, but those who own a board with KT266A should not switch to KT333, since there will not be a tangible performance boost.

XP Tweakage

If you like to tweak your XP/2000 rig as many do to get that optimal prerformance, you may want to peruse Black Viper's pages, as he has updated a few things since the last time I looked. He has a listing for XP/2000 background services settings that can be changed to improve performance. Many are turned on by default and sit in the background doing nothing but hogging resources.

3Dfx officially dead

Poster: DMIAD
Posted on February 20, 2002 at 12:34:50 AM
It is a great pity that 3Dfx is officially dead and so is their official web site. Visit the site to read the official announcement of discontinued support for 3Dfx products and a little ad of Nvidia products. Starting February 19th the site will be officially closed. Too bad, 3Dfx was the first one to bring quality 3d to masses. Let's hope no other company will follow their path.

MS must hand over Windows code to 9 states!

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on February 16, 2002 at 6:26:38 PM
Well, this surely must be a sad day for Microsoft. The Inquirer is reporting that MS must hand over its Windows code (Yes, including WinXP) to 9 states for review. They will see if MS is justified in stating that Internet Explorer was to tightly integrated in the OS and couldn't be removed. I suspect that there will be some leaks of code here and there possibly Wink.
