Welcome to the site.

The system you configured (Athlon 64 3000+, 6600GT, Asus A8N-SLI, 1GB RAM) should last two years or so, and since you plan on upgrading to SLI which two 6600GTs, it should be fine for games as well in the next two years.

I'm glad you didn't short yourself on the power supply, that is one of the most important parts of the system. I'm not to sure of Canadian pricing, but you may be able to configure the system for a bit cheaper if you built it yourself. Of course, you don't get any warranty for the entire system either.

Again, welcome to the site.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

If computers are your hobby..you don't need any College to tell you how to fix them. Why pay someone thousands of dollars to teach you something you can learn for free!

Not a bad config. I might bump the cheap CDRW and CDROM to go with a more robust DVD+-RW. Another Hard Drive and run RAID 0 (striping for faster response times) could prove to be most beneficial to your gaming. Depending on your games of interest you may want to look into a quality mouse as well. Best mouse I have seen for FPS games has to be the Razor. Optical response is overwhelming to that of a standard optical. Having a top notch rig won't make you a top notch gamer. Consider all factors when preparing to game. Enviroment, seating, pc and sense enhancement devices. ie:headphones, audio, mice. Best of luck with your box and gaming.
