Light instead of wire. We'll be moving to that sooner or later...

Sooner.

All I want is chips that use fricken laser beams, is that too much to ask?

mmh, sounds promising, although I am wondering whether or not it will cause interference from other sources. I guess computer has reached the bottleneck with the chip (that's why its' going to dual/quad/multi-core). Maybe this can further enhance the clockspeed.

Little known fact: todays chips already make miscalculations becuase of interference from RF but the effect on end users is small compared to buggy OSes, Viruses, etc.

If we went to laser communication instead of wire, the effect of RF radiation would be gone. You could more densely pack lasers together than you could wires.

I'm amazed somebody didn't think of this sooner. Or maybe they did but there wasn't a use for it yet. Pretty sick though all the same.

In reality, these chips or rather the ability to mount lasers using silicon are really on the cusp of technology.

Once we get the process down it will be much better for computers.

But there still might be a lil' interference since the chip converts electrical energy to lasers then back.

I would be tempted to play with the lasers.

That interference can be easily contained. It is the signaling that is the problem in chips.

We still have to worry about modders taking apart these chips to attach the laser beams to freakin' sharks.
