Asus P5B Deluxe? Old Thu Nov 9, 2006 8:45:49 PM #26842 Perm Link
Does anyone have an Asus P5B Deluxe? I am wondering what you think of the board. I'm probably going to get this board for a Core 2 Duo system I am building.

This would be the non-Wifi one. I want a P5B due to the unlocking of the CPU multiplier.

I personally was waiting for the 975X chipsets to be paired with the ICH8R.

I know the Intel Bad Axe 2 is coming out, but come on already.

Since you are gonna pay a high premium why not get a 680i-SLi board since they offer performanace levels on par with the best Intel chipsets and adds extreme overclocking as well as SLi support.

The P5B does Crossfire, not that I would ever bother spending money on two video cards. My monitor only runs at 1280x1024.

What board would you recommend? I'm going to be purchasing the board tonight.

For a 680i board I would have to say either aneVGA 680i mobo since I don't know of anyother 680I manufacturer at this point but I am sure other board makers will make boards with the 680i chipset. eVGA was just the first to reelase it I think. If you don't care for Crossfire and SLi, the P5B is a great choice for overclocking.

Heres a review of the eVGA board: http://pcper.com/article.php?aid=320

The 680i boards are much more expensive than the P5B Deluxe.

If you can link me to a board that is around $200, I'd consider it.

The P5B Deluxe is less than $200. Granted, the 680i is better.

Damn I never realized how expensive the 680i boards are. I thought they were supppose to be price along the same lines as the 975X lineup.

975X boards are even cheaper than the 680i boards but I guess thats given since the 680i is new.

For now I think the P5B-Deluxe would be a good choice.

i would suggest if you could, just wait for a bit and then there should be slightly cheaper variation of the 680i. Of course we all want 680iSmile.

the board looks nice and reviews seems good: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/08/03/asus_p5b_deluxe_wifi_ap_edn/1.html

Right I forget to mention you don't necessarily need to get a 680i-SLi as the 650i-SLi is cheaper and is expected be just as good with OC'ing as the 680i0Sli.

Compare chart of the NF600 series with the 680i-SLi, 650i-SLi, and 650i-Ultra:

Either way the P5B is a good board and I think the 965 chipset supports the quadcore Kentsfield CPU so it should las for a while.

Let us know how the board is. I'm interested in hearing.

I'm probably going to be building a new system soon. Perhaps I'll wait till the 680i boards drop in price.

it seems to me that 680i won't drop in the price at all, rather I think the other chip such as 650 will be in the mainstream's price.
