I really don't think that is too bad, unless that is for each one. A pack of 5 for $48 sounds like a good deal.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

Still, it's a good alternative to a cheapo HDD. I personally wouldn't buy one, but I don't need removable storage that takes up any more room than the 2 gigs that my flash drive can hold.

I think the Iomega Rev drive is a good alternative considering it is a hard drive. This technology sucks right now.

The Rev is interesting because it is basically a removable hard drive.

It is good for removable storage.

Great backup device IMO.

Didn't feel like reading it, but can you re-record over them? It would suck spending 50 bucks only to screw up the disc.

And that's what happens when companies use proprietary formats. Its good technology and everything, but to me it just looks like Sony trying to monopolize the market.

actually thats not a bad price, in my opinion. Blue ray is 50 gig and thats not even 1usd per gig. that basicly what a dvd is, so why are you complaing? i actually have a blue-ray burner and besides the shitload for the burner its A LOT cheaper than dvd's. i have a huge libary of anime so its a lot cheaper than buying shitloads of 250 gig external hard drives. and by the way, its a little cheaper than 48, more around 35.

It would be really good for backing up an entire series of Anime or other media to (Movies, Ebooks, Games, other things), but for practical storage use, the price is outrageous.

New tech is always expensive and BluRay disc will follow suit like DVDs in a few years and become affordable so worries.

I understand that, but how can a Blu-Ray movie be 30, while a Blu-Ray-R be 48? Even the movie started out as a blank disk, now it just has material that cost money to make put on it.

In that case you figure you would have to pay more for a BluRay movie; its all about the money. They aren't gonna sell a blank BluRay disc based on how much it actually costed to manufacture Wink

Legal fees that have been in use since the debut of VHS and Cassette tapes.

There was a court case that was done after the introduction of VHS. I'll look for it, but it essentially established a fee for all blank media. Or perhaps a tax is a better word choice.

Okay, my mistake. The Court case involved Betamax, and not VHS:

Quote

Immediately after their loss in the Supreme Court, the plaintiffs lobbied Congress to pass legislation that would protect them from the effects of home copying. However, in the eight years that had passed since the suit was initially filed, the use of home recording devices had become sufficiently widespread that Congress was not prepared to take any actions to the detriment of the significant population of VCR owners. Instead, Congress imposed a small statutory royalty on the sale of blank videotapes, and the film industry retreated from its efforts.

If a blank disc cost $1 to make why sell it for $1 when you can make a profit of it.
