Slayer? Yeayea. I'm a fan of Slayer.
Who isn't? It's so fasionable to drop their name these days.
But I wasn't really into Slayer as much as I was into Kreator, Sodom, Exodus. And Celtic Frost and Hellhammer.
I never went through a Slayer "phase" per se.
However, I do recognize their influence in metal. Being one, if not the first to pioneer dissonant intervals and thus creating an entire subgenre.
Much more influnental than Metallica could ever hope to be. That's for sure.
Well no, I didn't say that.
Metallica made some kick ass music.
They're just not as influental as their fans would have you believe. All they did was expand on the open harmonies already set in place by bands like Iron Maiden and others they grew up covering. Metallica only influenced Bay Area wanna-be bands.
Well that makes sense, though I've always thought old Metallica is better than newer Metallica (as you said, they made some kick ass music). I'm just a semi-fan, though my friend would like me to as into it as he is.
Anyway, I know what you mean about those bay area wanna-be's. I used to live near them...you know...in the rich area (even though I was poor), so they're all retarded wanna-be snobs who even I could beat up (and OH how much I'd love to do that), so that's pretty freakin' sad.
