SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 5, eWBM, Ltd., a fabless SoC company, announced that their very first product 'DR1151' has been successfully launched. DR1151 is the world's first system semiconductor that calculates the relative distance to the object only with a single-lens camera.
The existing market has been using the two sensors and IR Emitter to calculate the relative distance between the object and the sensor heretofore. But DR1151 uses Dual Aperture's 4-color 3D image solution technology which extracts RGB and IR signals by single image sensor. They are expecting that this innovative technology can contribute to significant cost reduction and miniaturization of applications.
In addition, eWBM has ensured the high performance of more than 30 FPS and at the same time minimized the power consumption by applying the self-developed hardware blocks to DR1151 in order to process the numerous calculations required for extracting the relative distance. DR1151 is hereby expected to be used widely in mobile and portable applications in near future.
"As DR1151 has attracted a lot of interest from related companies before it was released, it will be available to customers at home and abroad from the end of Feburary, when the test is completed. We also expect that a full-fledged sales of DR1151 will be carried out from the second half of this year when the applications has been developed," Wookon Koh, the head of marketing for eWBM, said.
DR1151 can be applied to various fields such as 3D gesture recognition, gaming, distance-sensitive CCTV, automative collision avoidance systems, contactless fingerprint, single-lends laparoscope and etc. It also can be used to improve functionality of the smart phone camera-high-precision autofocusing macro, focus changes after imaging, 3D background removal and etc. eWBM has currently been committed to developing the 3D gesture recognition Smart TV and set-top boxes accessories with two foreign companies, also has been cooperating with large camera module manufactures at home and abroad to develop the module for smartphones since last year. In addition, eWBM jointly with Dual Aperture have established partnerships with three domestic and foreign companies, and they will continue to expand the types of applicable 4-color sensor.
"The hardware depth map engine applied to DR1151 has developed the Dual Aperture's algorithm to minimize the size of the circuit through eWBM's technology and yet maximize the performance. This technology allowed us to secure the over the years of technological gap compared to competing technologies," Seung-hoon Oh, vice president of product development laboratory, said.
"DR1151 will lead very significant changes in the camera sensor market. It will be the first year for eWBM to become the de facto representative of SoC fabless companies through a successful fab-out of DR1151," Stephen Sang-geun Oh, CEO of eWBM, said with aspirations.
eWBM, Ltd. has attracted an investment of $800,000 from Value Invest Korea last year in recognition of the SoC implementation capacity of the next generation of imaging technology commercialization.

Peregrine Semiconductor Unveils 40 GHz RF SOI Switch
The UltraCMOS® PE42524 Sets a New Standard for RF SOI at High Frequencies and Offers Reliability and Performance Advantages Over Existing GaAs-based Solutions
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Peregrine Semiconductor Corp., founder of RF SOI (silicon on insulator) and pioneer of advanced RF solutions, introduces the UltraCMOS® PE42524, the industry's first RF SOI switch to operate up to 40 GHz. This switch significantly extends Peregrine's high-frequency portfolio into frequencies previously dominated by gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology. As an alternative to GaAs-based solutions, the PE42524 features high reliability and performance advantages in linearity, isolation, settling time and ESD protection. These attributes make the switch ideal for test-and-measurement, microwave-backhaul, radar and military communications devices.
"As we further extend our high-frequency portfolio into microwave frequencies, Peregrine proves the capabilities and advantages of RF SOI technology," says Kinana Hussain, senior marketing manager. "Our UltraCMOS technology enables our high-frequency components, such as the PE42524, to reach performance levels previously considered unattainable in RF SOI. With a product roadmap that includes additional high-frequency components, Peregrine has, and will continue to, set new standards for RF SOI."
Peregrine's high-frequency switch portfolio, which includes 13 GHz, 18 GHz, 26.5 GHz and now 40 GHz products, is manufactured on Peregrine's UltraCMOS technology, a patented variation of SOI technology on a sapphire substrate. This sapphire substrate offers several key benefits significant to high-frequency design. Sapphire has a loss tangent that is 10 times better than bulk CMOS and three times better than GaAs. As an ultra high-resistivity substrate, sapphire provides high isolation and minimizes parasitic capacitances. The sapphire substrate eliminates many substrate-coupling effects, common in silicon-based substrates, offering RF system engineers exceptional levels of linearity and power handling performance.
Features, Packaging, Pricing and Availability
Peregrine's PE42524 is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) RF switch die that supports a wide frequency range from 10 MHz to 40 GHz. It delivers exceptionally high port-to-port isolation, low insertion loss and excellent linearity. The switch exhibits 47 dB isolation and 2.2 dB insertion loss at 30 GHz, as well as 50 dBm IIP3 at 13.5 GHz. The PE42524 has a fast switching time of 225 nanoseconds, a fast settling time of 840 nanoseconds and a high ESD rating of 2000V HBM on all pins. Unlike GaAs solutions, no blocking capacitors are required if DC voltage is not present on the RF ports. The PE42524 is available as a flip-chip die with 500 microns bump pitch, which eliminates high-frequency performance variations due to bond wire length variances.
Samples, evaluation kits and volume-production parts are available now. Offered as a RoHS compliant, flip-chip die, the PE42524 is $40 each for 1K-quantity orders and $32.44 for 5K-quantity orders.

OneAccess Places Service Migration at the Heart of its NFV Strategy
Operations-focused NFV path answers call from operators for a gradual, non-disruptive migration to a virtualized service-oriented environment; new vCPE adapter announced
PARIS, February 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
OneAccess, [http://www.oneaccess-net.com ] a global provider of service-enabling
network access solutions, has unveiled its service migration strategy to enable Service
Providers to practically and efficiently implement the delivery of virtualized services
taking into account their existing IT environment.
"OneAccess' focus on serving the specific needs of operators and CSPs has enabled us
to respond to their requirements for a steady and sensible migration path," explains
Pravin Mirchandani, CMO and NFV evangelist, OneAccess. "We help by minimizing the risk of
introducing new virtualized services as the migration can run in tandem with their
existing OSS and organizational processes."
OneAccess' strategy enables operators to introduce NFV gradually, leveraging existing
provisioning services where necessary, yet is designed to enable full virtualized
automation for even complex service types in an open and operationally practical way. New
virtualized network functions (VNFs) can in effect be activated and chained to today's
legacy services. This service migration approach avoids the leap-of-faith pitfall of
alternative green field approaches.
"Until now, operators and CSPs have been presented with two basic approaches to NFV
migration," adds Mirchandani. "On the one hand, the big five networking vendors are saying
'Trust us. We'll get you there', which, in effect, is a fairly transparent invitation to
consolidate into inflexible vendor lock-in, something the operators desperately want to
avoid. On the other hand, various Layer 2 vendors are advocating a disruptive 'rip and
replace' strategy, in a bid to introduce an x86 computing platform into their customers'
networks using their equipment. Neither of these approaches takes into account the need to
co-exist with existing IT systems or even current upgrade plans to expand or enhance
existing enterprise services."
In the first step of its NFV strategy, OneAccess is today announcing the availability
of a vCPE Adapter or virtual adapter that enables the full functions of a traditional
branch-office CPE to be placed directly in the service chain of an NFV infrastructure. The
vCPE Adapter enables all or part of the targeted enterprise network services to be set up
using either Netconf, existing legacy protocols or a combination of both.
This means operators can now start their trials and initial NFV service rollouts
unconstrained by the need to migrate their legacy services or 'forklift upgrade' their
existing CPE. Once installed, the vCPE adapter enables all legacy services to be
integrated into the service chain and to be provisioned via the adapter or natively with
Netconf.
"The networking industry's delivery of NFV must be aligned with the acute technical
and commercial challenges the operators face," Mirchandani continues. "Based on a 4-step
practical process, OneAccess has developed a migration-oriented set of technology
solutions which enable the service providers to choose their preferred starting point and
adapt their implementation strategy to the needs and constraints of their existing
environment as well as an NFV rollout plan. In this way, service providers retain maximum
flexibility and are empowered to introduce new virtualized services in the most efficient
manner.
"What OneAccess is presenting today is the promise of significant cost savings to
service providers, with minimum pain. In the near future, OneAccess will also deliver both
a vCPE and a number of specialized VNFs, with a focus on virtualizing and automating the
delivery of more complex dual-headed functions such as VPNs (i.e. encrypted tunnels), WAN
optimization and hybrid access link management schemes to augment bandwidth and provide
failover and offload for critical business traffic.
"OneAccess has spent the last three years preparing its product portfolio to support
this migration strategy. While the larger vendors have vied for influence and set out
their big-picture architectures, OneAccess has been doing the technical heavy lifting,"
adds Mirchandani. "Our products are now engineered to support a flexible range of
integration and migration options and enable the operators to deliver new virtualized and
automated network services.
"We look forward to sharing further details in the coming weeks."

Emoji My Face 2.0 elegantly blends your photo with hundreds of beautifully designed emoji icons.
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past year or so, a few "make-yourself-into-an-emoji" apps have been gaining media attention. But now, the original app that lets users put their face into an emoji is back - better, bigger and more beautiful.
Emoji My Face 2.0 clearly differentiates itself from the others in two ways:
1) First, users can easily create a professional-looking, "Photoshopped" end result, by blending and filtering their photo with carefully crafted emoji art. No slapped-together, face-in-hole characters. No cartoon line-art faces. And no crude, tedious silhouetting and erasing.
2) Second, the new update offers many classic emoji characters, like the Heart emoji (the most used "word" of 2014), and the Heart-Eyes, Poo, and Tears emojis. Plus, it adds many new, long-desired emojis (destined to generate some big smileys themselves) including the Middle-Finger, Vomit, Taco and Face-Palm emojis.
Emoji My Face currently has nine emoji sets, with plans to add more. From Food & Drink, to Superheroes, to Sports, they're all ready for emoji fans to customize with their perfect expression, infinitely and for any occasion. No more searching for and not finding the perfect smiley--just create it in seconds.
Here's how it works:
-- Take a picture, select from the Photo Library or grab a celeb from the
web.
-- Pinch to easily fit the photo.
-- Combine it with a hilarious, cute, creepy or cool emoji image.
-- Adjust the lighting with a simple slider.
-- Save the finished custom emoji into a custom category, and it's done.
-- Then share it as a sticker in any chat app like WhatsApp or Messenger,
email it, or post to Twitter, Facebook--anywhere images can be pasted or
uploaded.
"I launched the original version of Emoji My Face in October 2012," said app creator Steve Ingkavet, a former NYC ad agency Creative Director now residing in Austin, TX. "Back then, most people hadn't even heard of an emoji, and the word 'sticker' had nothing to do with messages. Now it seems everyone--and their mother--uses emojis. And thanks to LINE and all the other chat apps, stickers are booming."
Which is why Emoji My Face hopes to become the ultimate and infinite chat-sticker app for all chat platforms.

co-exist with existing IT systems or even current upgrade plans to expand or enhance
existing enterprise services."

LG Chem Leads World's Biggest Building Installation of OLED Lighting at SNU
SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Chem., Ltd., the world's largest OLED light panel manufacturer, today unveiled the world's biggest building installation of OLED lighting at the inauguration ceremony for SeoulNational University's new main library.
Seoul National University (SNU) adopted OLED lighting for the library's reading lights because it is energy efficient and is extremely comfortable to the eyes. OLED lighting comes closest of any lighting source to natural sunlight and does not emit UV, which increases eye fatigue, or produces blue light, which can cause eye damage.
University officials also selected the OLED light panels because their slim and modern design conforms with the library's cutting-edge architecture. OLED light panels are only the surface light source that is currently available, which makes them ideal for various design applications.
"Lighting is the most important factor for a library facility since we want to avoid eye fatigue for our students," said an administrator of the SeoulNational University Library. Â "OLED lighting is the best lighting option for the library's study areas since it protects the eyes while offering a soothing and simple design, and we selected LG Chem's lighting products because of the company's technology leadership in the sector."
"The adoption of OLED light panels at Seoul National University Library is a recognition of OLED lighting's superiority," saidPark Sung-Soo, Vice President of the OLED Light Business at LG Chem. "LG Chem plans to commercially market in March the OLED reading lights installed at the SeoulNational University Library, in addition to its 'Frame', OLED lighting lamp, which is already being sold online. This is part of LG Chem's efforts to create new consumer experiences with OLED lighting products," he added.
The OLED light panels used at the SNU Library measure 320mm x 110mm, with a light efficacy of 60lm/W and a lifetime of 40,000 hours. The brightness of the lighting is easily adjusted with a dimming control between 300lx and 850lx. The standard brightness for a reading light ranges from 300lx to 600lx, according to the Korean standard illumination index.
The thickness of the OLED light panel is 0.88mm, and even with an aluminum housing, it is still just 2.2mm, offering an ultra slim design.
Mr. Park said the SNU Library OLED lighting project marks a significant milestone in the worldwide adoption of OLED lighting. Â Sales of the OLED lighting industry are set to grow rapidly to reach an estimated$4.7 billion by 2020, according to UBI Research, a consultancy.

Hanergy Li Hejun Ushers in Mobile Energy Era and Launches Thin-film Innovation Competition
BEIJING, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Hanergy Thin Film Power Group Ltd. held a mobile energy strategy presentation and the launch ceremony of its global thin-film solar product innovation competition. Mobile energy, as envisioned by Hanergy, is a novel concept and strategic judgment based on the global energy development trend.
Through its world-leading thin-film solar technology, Hanergy will help mankind enter the mobile energy era and lead a revolution in the way energy is generated and used.
In his keynote speech Hanergy Chairman Li Hejun pointed out that with mankind's continuous progress and the accelerated development of science and technology, traditional energy structures and energy utilization patterns are undergoing disruptive change. Mobile energy has the potential to revolutionize our energy systems, and Hanergy will take the lead in creating a global mobile energy era through thin-film solar power.
Li Hejun's vision of mobile energy aligns with the idea of humans being able to directly harness the sun's energy in much the same way green plants use chlorophyll. With cutting-edge features such as flexibility, light weight, superior low light performance, and diversified colors and shapes, thin-film solar technology is widely applicable to a variety of fields such as distributed power generation, mobile 3C products, wearable devices, fully solar-powered automobiles, solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicles and satellites.
Mobile energy is based on distributed power generation technology and integrated with technologies including energy storage, mobile Internet, and controlled data tracking to make highly-efficient and consistent mobile energy supply a reality for everyone.
Growing environmental pressure and depletion of fossil fuels will help drive the demand for electric vehicles and the mobile energy systems that power these vehicles. Highly mobile and adaptable thin-film solar technology is the best solution for these demands and will form a new pillar of growth in the "new normal" phase of China's economy.
The current market penetration of electric cars worldwide is more than 400,000, a number expected to reach 5-10 million by 2020. Leveraging thin-film technology, Hanergy is cooperating with three foreign and two domestic car design institutions to develop fully solar-powered cars. Three to five new models will be released in October this year. According to calculations, when a one-ton car is integrated with six square meters of Hanergy's highly-efficient gallium arsenide flexible thin-film module, it can travel 80 to 100 kilometers on an average of four hours of sunlight per day. The solar car market has huge potential as it is expected to reach 46 GW by 2020.
The electronic devices market, another important mobile energy application field, is expected to include over 6 billion smartphones globally by 2020. The power consumption of a smartphone is about 4 kWh each year; so the overall power consumption of 6 billion smart phones will surpass 24 billion kWh. If tablet computers are taken into account, the total power consumed will be approximately equivalent to a half-year's energy output of the Three Gorges Dam Hydroelectric Power Plant.
During the unveiling of Hanergy's mobile energy strategy, its global thin-film solar product innovation competition was also officially launched. With "Leading Thin-Film Solar & Creating a Mobile Energy Era" as its theme, the competition aims to stimulate scientific innovation in the mobile energy era, and promote diversified applications of thin-film technology through cross-field cooperation.
The competition is open to product developers, R&D institutions, designers, engineers, teachers and students from design colleges and anyone else who is interested and passionate about design and creativity. The topics cover six industries including architecture, transportation, electronics, home use, fully solar-powered automobiles and others. Applicants can choose from any topic and submit as many entry works as they want.
To encourage global design experts' participation in the competition, Hanergy has prepared generous awards. The winner of the highest honor of the competition - Hanergy Dream Award - will be awarded 1 million RMB. In addition, the competition sets up a variety of awards such as the Gold Award, Silver Award, Best Creativity Award and Best Charity Award under each theme.

WatchGuard and Frost & Sullivan Offer Three Simple Steps to Help Future-Proof Network Security
New eBook explores how organizations can unlock the full potential of Unified Threat Management
SEATTLE, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Combatting enterprise-grade threats, without the resources to deploy enterprise-grade solutions, is a key security challenge for today's midsize businesses. It often results in a piecemeal approach to network security and a complex, disjointed strategy that leaves significant gaps in protection. To help overcome these challenges, WatchGuard Technologies and Frost & Sullivan have released a new eBook titled, "Fulfilling the Promise of Unified Threat Management (UTM): Unlocking Full UTM-Enabled Network Protection," which dives into UTM adoption fears and offers three simple steps that can help organizations future-proof their UTM security strategy.
"While businesses claim that security considerations drive network planning, the reality is that any security technology that hampers network performance is simply switched off," said Chris Rodriguez, senior industry analyst for network security at Frost & Sullivan and author of the executive brief that the eBook is based on. "With network and security demands rising at a meteoric rate, UTM platforms are under even more pressure to quickly inspect and secure traffic without impacting network performance. Traditionally these solutions have struggled to deliver on the performance promise, but new advances from vendors like WatchGuard deliver total system performance, meaning organizations can future-proof their UTM security strategy."
With network performance no longer limiting the UTM value proposition, organizations can future-proof their UTM strategy with three primary steps:
1. Focus on UTM performance instead of firewall performance. Most vendors
promote the performance of the product when used as a stateful firewall.
Look for performance with UTM features enabled.
2. Carefully analyze third-party testing data. These tests often compare UTM
capabilities when deployed as IPS or in other dedicated security roles,
even though UTM products are not designed for a single-function capacity.
3. Consider UTM features for maximum security. These solutions are designed
for modularity so that new security features can be added with minimal
impact on network performance. Look at features like clustering, which
can help future-proof your investment.
For more comprehensive details around each step, including tips and checklists, download the eBook today. Universal Positioning System Provides Better Living with Technology
DENVER, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology is deeply ingrained in the daily lives of most Americans, but consistent electronics use can have a negative effect on health. Octa, a Denver-based design firm that creates mobile mounting solutions, is equipping consumers with adaptable tablet accessories and providing valuable insights on ways they can improve their "tech health."
A new condition known as "tech neck" - an unhealthy posture that results from looking down at and hunching over smartphones and tablets - is escalating as people spend more time on their mobile devices. Seeking to improve "tech neck," Octa has developed two new tablet accessories, the Spider Monkey ($79.99) and Lynx ($99.99), to conveniently position any device at eye-level, offering a comfortable viewing solution for any environment. Technology enthusiasts can now avoid the consequences of "tech neck," which include spinal misalignment, muscle and nerve damage and decreased muscle strength - also leading to wrinkles and saggy neck skin.
"People are constantly engaged with mobile technology," said Nikki Braziel, co-founder and COO of Octa. "They're texting while walking; browsing while waiting; twisting their bodies in unhealthy and uncomfortable ways to accommodate their tablets, and that can actually create long-term damage. Octa's solutions provide comfort and convenience, so you'll get more from your tablet while caring for your own well-being."
In addition to enhancing the user experience with its functional line of tablet accessories, Octa has rounded up the following helpful tips for other cases in which technology is affecting consumer health:
-- Ever heard of "Blackberry Thumb?" This occurs when users constantly text
or type on devices, leading to tendinitis. Instead, use the voice
command features on smartphones or tablets to create messages. When
typing on keyboards, keep your wrists positioned parallel to the floor
to avoid hand cramping.
-- Blue light from cell phones and tablets can cause eye strain and fatigue
during the day, and keep you up at night. Reduce the light settings on
screens or invert your screen colors, using three clicks on the home
button on an iPhone or iPad. Keep electronics at bay for an hour or two
before nodding off to sleep.
-- A study by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine found that
the surface of one in six handsets contained potentially harmful
bacteria. Clean your screen often with antibacterial wipes and be sure
to wash your hands before touching mobile devices.
By keeping these simple facts in mind, and by using tablet mounts to help support technology, users will be on their way to a more "tech healthy" lifestyle. For more information on Octa and its helpful line of products, please visit http://www.octa.com.
