Cochlear Launches Industry First 'True Wireless' Experience
MUMBAI, February 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Cochlear Limited (ASX: COH), the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, has
launched the cochlear implant industry's first true wireless accessories, delivering clear
sound without the need for bulky neck-worn components required by other systems.
The range of accessories includes a Mini Microphone, Phone Clip and TV Streamer,
giving Cochlear(TM) Nucleus(R) 6 sound processor users an instant improvement in their
ability to hear in challenging situations, so they can focus on what's important.
The accessories use the same 2.4 GHz technology platform as Bluetooth(R) and Wi-Fi
devices. This gives a clear and secure connection without the interference and signal
drops associated with traditional wireless systems.
"We're proud to be offering our recipients leading technology that will bring enormous
benefits," said Vandana Pisharody, Regional Director, Cochlear South Asia. "True wireless
freedom not only means a significantly easier and more enjoyable hearing experience, it
also helps recipients use modern technology like anyone else, so they don't have to miss
out on what most of us take for granted."
Mini Microphone
Hearing in noisy situations or over a distance such as class rooms, lecture halls,
offices or busy restaurants can be challenging for many people. The Mini Microphone gives
recipients the advantage of having the speech they want to hear transmitted directly to
their sound processor by simply clipping it onto a companion or a teacher's collar.
The Mini Microphone can also be plugged into other devices such as MP3 players and
computers so recipients can enjoy the sound with the freedom to move around.
Phone Clip
The Bluetooth-enabled wireless capability of the Phone Clip gives recipients the
convenience of a hands-free connection to friends and family, and a clarity of sound that
gives them more confidence in using the phone. They can make calls, have conversations and
even listen to music without having to take the phone out of their pocket. Small and
lightweight, the device is ideal for the car, for work and when on the go.
TV Streamer
The TV Streamer delivers crisp, clear stereo sound directly from a recipient's TV to
their sound processor, while still letting them hear the conversation around them. This
means they can have their own personal volume without making TV too loud for others, and
can enjoy their favourite shows and discuss them with friends and family at the same time.
This innovation is a result of a technology partnership between Cochlear and GN
ReSound, another leader in hearing technology solutions. The range of true wireless
accessories is currently available with the Cochlear Baha(R) 4 Sound Processor and with
the Cochlear Nucleus 6 Sound Processor.
The wireless accessories for Nucleus 6 and Baha(R) 4 will be available in India from
February 2.
Cochlear is the global leader in implantable hearing solutions. It has a dedicated
global team of approximately 2,700 people who deliver the gift of sound to the hearing
impaired in over 100 countries. Its vision is to connect people, young and old, to a world
of sound by offering life enhancing hearing solutions.
The Cochlear promise of 'Hear now. And always' embodies the company's commitment to
providing its recipients with the best possible hearing performance today and for the rest
of their lives. For over 30 years Cochlear has helped hundreds of thousands of people
either hear for the first time or reconnect them to their families, friends, workplaces
and communities.

NEWS:Apre-Big Game "game plan" to prevent TV/furniture tip over deaths and injuries; New research from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shares lifesaving steps to take once a new TV is brought home
More Americans will buy a new TV ahead of the Big Game than any other sporting event during the year. New research from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that the average flat panel or CRT TV can have an impact force of thousands of pounds when it falls onto a child from unanchored furniture.
CPSC has previously reported that one child dies every two weeks and one person is injured every 15 minutes when a TV or a piece of furniture falls onto them.
In an effort to highlight the dangers TV and furniture tip-overs pose to children, CPSC researchers conducted 38 drop tests simulating a tip-over of both CRT and flat screen TVs on top of furniture. New and dramatic video footage of these simulations is now available.
CPSC urges consumers to keep safety in mind when buying a new TV. Avoid tip and fall incidents in the home, ask a sales associate for help selecting anti-tip devices. A secured TV is mounted to the wall or anchored to furniture with straps, brackets, or braces to prevent the TV from sliding. And lastly, remember to keep items that might tempt kids to climb, such as toys and remote controls, from the top of the TV and furniture.
B-ROLL INCLUDES: TVs on bureaus and bookcases tipping over, an anti-tip device being installed, wall anchoring being installed

ROHM Introduces The Industry's First Monolithic Supercap (EDLC) Cell Balancing IC
Promotes expansion of the supercapacitor energy regeneration market for automotive and industrial applications
KYOTO, Japan and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ROHM Semiconductor has recently announced the development of a cell balancing IC that contributes to increased miniaturization, greater stability, and longer life for supercaps, or EDLCs (Electric Double Layer Capacitors), which are driving the adoption of energy regeneration applications in industrial equipment, automotive start-stop systems, and voltage sag (instantaneous voltage drop) countermeasures.
The BD14000EFV-C integrates over 20 discrete components required for supercap cell balancing on a single chip, reducing mounting area by 38% over conventional solutions while eliminating component variations, making it easy to configure compact, high reliability supercap systems.
In addition to cell balancing functionality for up to 6 cells, multiple ICs can be connected in series to enable simultaneous control of even more cells. The cell balancing voltage can be set between 2.4V and 3.1V, ensuring support for a variety of supercaps. Flag output is also built-in, along with an overcurrent detection voltage function with adjustable detection voltage setting based on the cell balancing voltage. In addition, AEC-Q100 qualification ensures worry-free use in automotive and other environments requiring high reliability.
1. All required supercap cell balancing functions integrated on a single chip reduces mounting area by 38%
Proprietary analog design technology cultivated over many years, combined with sample evaluations and specifications determined by Nippon Chemi-Con, have allowed ROHM to develop the industry's first IC that integrates supercap cell balancing functionality - which conventionally requires over 20 discrete components - on a single chip. This not only simplifies design, but reduces mounting area by 38%.
Detection is enabled for 4-6 cells, and the shunt resistor method is used to achieve simple cell balancing operation, making self-contained operation possible and reducing design load considerably. In addition, the cell balancing voltage can be adjusted (2.4V to 3.1V in 0.1V increments) to ensure compatibility with a wide range of supercap output voltages.
2. Supports higher voltage supercap applications by expanding the number of cells
The supercap market itself is trending towards higher voltages and capacitances, and the practice of connecting large-capacitance supercaps in series to generate higher voltages is increasing. In response, the BD14000EFV-C allows multiple ICs to be connected in series, making it possible to provide cell balancing functionality for high voltage supercap applications.
3. Two protection functions enable double-checking of cell conditions; automotive standard AEC-Q100 qualified
In addition to cell balancing operation, overcurrent detection and flag output functions are included that improve system reliability by detecting the degree of cell degradation. And AEC-Q100 certification ensures that the IC meets special environmental requirements (i.e. automotive noise).
Applications
-- Energy regeneration: automotive, industrial equipment, construction
machinery, and other systems that reutilize kinetic energy
-- Power supply stabilization/voltage sag countermeasures: emergency backup
(i.e. UPS)
-- Startup power auxiliary: automotive start-stop systems, rapid OA
equipment startup
-- Lead-acid battery replacement: no lead minimizes environmental impact;
provides longer life

3D Robotics Launches DroneEDU to Unleash the Power of Drone Tech in the Classroom
North America's Largest Consumer Drone Manufacturer Now Offers Free & Discounted Hardware, Support, Sponsorship & Partnership Opportunities for All Levels of Education
BERKELEY, Calif., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --North America's largest consumer drone manufacturer is on a mission to take learning and scientific exploration to new heights. 3D Robotics (3DR) today launched its new DroneEDU program, offering free and discounted drone hardware, along with sponsorships, classroom support and partnerships, to assist students, teachers and schools in deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for advanced learning and exploration in STEM disciplines.
"UAV technology can have an incredible impact in scientific study, with real-world applications in solving both historical mysteries and modern global challenges," said Brandon Basso, VP of software engineering at 3DR. "To realize that potential, we want to put UAVs in the hands of the next generation of innovators. Actiontec Launches the First Receiver for Intel® Pro Wireless Display -- Bringing Wireless Display to the Enterprise
ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition is built for businesses with wireless display, security, user privacy, manageability, and managed meeting capability.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics today launched ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition, the first enterprise-grade wireless display receiver certified for Intel Pro Wireless Display (Intel® Pro WiDi), a key feature available with 5(th) Generation Intel® Core(TM) vPro(TM) Processors. The solution turns any conference room into a wire-free collaboration zone, enabling employees to share and display content from their laptops, smartphones, or tablets without having to figure out which adapter or cable is needed to connect their device.
"Actiontec has played a leadership role as we have worked to bring Intel Pro WiDi to market," said Tom Garrison, Vice President, General Manager, Business Client Platforms at Intel. "ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition sets the standard for our Intel Pro WiDi experience, allowing businesses to take full advantage of the wireless display capabilities built into the latest version of Intel Pro WiDi."
ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition is a small Intel® Pro WiDi compliant adapter that connects to a projector, TV, or other display and lets users wirelessly share content from a compatible laptop, smartphone, or tablet. Its unmatched security, reliability, and small footprint allow quick and scalable deployments into enterprise environments; enabling businesses to add seamless wireless display capabilities to conference rooms, classrooms, hospital patient rooms and more while supporting a range of source devices.
Key Capabilities
Management
When equipped with an optional dongle, ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition will be the first wireless display receiver to offer remote management through Actiontec's soon to be released Central Management System (CMS). Available only from Actiontec, CMS enables IT staff to remotely monitor receiver status, troubleshoot problems, apply security policies and update multiple receivers at once. This dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of deploying and managing wireless display technology in medium to large businesses.
Security & Privacy
In addition to manageability, ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition supports key security and privacy features built into Intel Pro WiDi. For example, it requires users to verify their connection to a target projector or television prior to actually displaying their content. This prevents people from inadvertently sharing sensitive information on an adjacent conference room screen.
Meeting Control
ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition also fully supports the Intel Pro WiDi Managed Meeting feature, which includes giving meeting organizers flexibility to manage who controls the display. In "moderated meeting" mode, presenters can hand off control when needed, enhancing collaboration and moving the meeting forward without interruption.
"The modern conference room is complex. Employees bring a range of devices, all with different outputs, that need to connect to the conference room display. It's hard to anticipate which adapters and cables are needed, much less keep those cables handy," said Dean Chang, CEO of Actiontec Electronics.
"Together with 5th Generation Intel Core vPro processors and Intel Pro WiDi, ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition frees the conference room from these cable struggles. It's the only wireless display solution that completely addresses all the unique performance, collaboration, security, and manageability needs of Corporate, Small/Medium Businesses, education, healthcare, and hospitality environments," Chang added.
About ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition
-- ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition can stream content from any Intel Pro
WiDi capable product including Intel-based tablets, Ultrabooks(TM), and
2-in-1 devices with 5(th) Generation Intel Core vPro Processors. For
added versatility, the receiver is also compatible with Wi-Fi CERTIFIED
Miracast(TM) devices.

(NASDAQ: GOGO), a leading global aero communications service provider, announced today that its wireless in-flight entertainment product - Gogo Vision - is now installed on more than 1,700 commercial aircraft across six major airlines and continues to roll out in the business aviation market. Today, more than half of the aircraft flying around the world with wireless in-flight entertainment are equipped with the Gogo Vision product.
Gogo Vision allows passengers to rent movies and television shows on their own Wi-Fi enabled laptops, tablets or smartphones. Gogo has currently licensed more than 200 movies and close to 200 television shows from most of the major Hollywood studios. Most content is in the DVD release window, but Gogo is the first provider of wireless in-flight entertainment with some content in the early release window.
"Gogo's wireless in-flight entertainment product has become a popular way for airlines to deliver content to passengers because it's lightweight, inexpensive and easier to maintain when compared to seat-back solutions," said Ash ElDifrawi, Gogo's Chief Commercial Officer. "We also now have the ability to install the Gogo vision product on aircraft with or without our connectivity product."
The Gogo Vision product leverages Gogo's onboard equipment to deliver the content. The content is pre-loaded and stored on a server on the plane and delivered through wireless access points. Gogo Vision can also be offered to an airline with or without Gogo's connectivity product. Gogo also has deployed a seat selection technology that allows an airline to serve up content based on where a passenger sits on a plane.
"We know that the vast majority of passengers are carrying their own Wi-Fi enabled device on a plane, this technology leverages that trend," added ElDifrawi. "As we continue to develop the capabilities of our seat selection technologies, we expect to eventually be able to distribute entertainment customized to the preferences of each passenger on the plane, which will essentially enable our airline partners to offer a customizable experience at the seat level."
