My Bite Buddy: How Collaboration Made An Idea Into A Reality

Harlo's software engineers developed a simple tester app to read the movements and engage with the circuit board to see if the concept could work. Mike taped the board to a fishing pole and the team was able to get real-time usable data about the rod's movements, and eventually were able to use that data to sense when a fish was biting or a fish was on the hook. The data generated by the device streams to the app on the user's smartphone to trigger alerts of "fish bites" and "fish on," with a notification range of up to 175 feet away from the fishing pole.
The finished application has customized alert tones, notifications, line sensitivity adjustments, and allows users to share photos of their catch with friends via social media, and even enter to win gear giveaways or an annual fishing trip. The initial plan involves launching the application with 28,000 secured medical practitioners.

SmartRounds Creates World's First Non-Lethal Non-Impact Smart Bullets

Unlike less-lethal weapons that rely on hitting the target to deliver kinetic energy and considerable pain to disable the assailant, these projectiles do not make contact, which makes these bullets truly non-lethal.

NEW YORK, Jan. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- At the National Retail Federation's Annual Convention & EXPO on Monday, Microsoft Corp. and CKE Restaurants Inc. (parent company of Hardee's(®) and Carl's Jr.(®)) will showcase a self-order kiosk solution running on Windows 8 devices that enables Hardee's customers to customize and place their own orders. The Dell Optiplex 3030 All-in-One devices are currently deployed as a pilot test in 30 restaurants, including a newly redesigned kiosk-featured restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee. As part of its pilot, Hardee's will continue to roll out kiosks to additional restaurants in the next few months.
